How to use your PS4 controller as a PC controller

I think his problem involved not having the proper .NET 4 installed or something like that.

edit: Also, the new installer is much more straightforward. You press the install button and it'll download and install for you now. I'll have to edit the post.

Download the "DS4 Health Check" from this page and see if there's anything wrong with your setup.

Thanks for the help guys.

Ended up downloading this one in the end:

http://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-DS4Windows-Another-fork-another-thread

Installer was great, checked to see if I had all the required program's installed at the start. Turned out I didn't have the .NET 4 installed so it downloaded and installed it for me.

The program is also very easy to use. Love the fact that I can use the touchpad as the mouse now, perfect for comfy couch use.

The rumble/vibration seemed to be very weak in the games I tried though even with it set to max in the settings... Is this normal?

Thanks for the guide worked instantly, best controller in years I've use for a pc next to six button saturn usb. Analog is so much better than a 360.

Trying to get this to work is driving me crazy.

I bought a Asus USB-BT400 3Mbps USB Bluetooth v4.0 Mini Dongle, installed the software etc. Trying to pair my ds4 but the controller light (and the actual controller) are turning off after a few seconds? It's not showing up in DS4Windows. Every time I turn the controller on I get a notification in my taskbar "A Bluetooth device is trying to connect" but when I click on it to give it permission, that's when my controller turns itself off.

Are you holding the share+PS button to put it in to seek mode first?

How do you get the touchpad to emulate the mouse using DS4Windows? Everything else seems to be working, but swiping around the touchpad does absolutely nothing. Having mouse emualation was literally the only reason I suffered through this setup. -_-

I think it may be an option? Are you using a single finger? Works fine for me so it's definitely there and very simple, but I don't have the app right here. Rest assured it is there and is great. As with any tool ever, go through the entire options menu at least once before trying to use something. It might also be a setting in the "profile" you set up for your buttons as a protip, you can set up a "joy to key" style WASD focused profile as well for playing web/flash games or just stuff with no joypad support. I do this and make the LED different colors for each profile. I have a Cyan profile for Xinput, a Red one for keyboard/mouse emulation and a "black" one that's just Xinput for playing in the dark

I just installed ds4windows wednesday night and it worked right away, didn't have to switch any options on or anything.

I believe mouse emulation is the default action. It should work immediately.

And er... you suffered through the setup? It's like a two click install.

After like 5 hours of trying to get my DS4 to pair, sure.

I've gone through every option in the settings/profile page... don't see anything related to mouse emulation. A bunch of touchpad swiping stuff that I don't know if I should enable or not. There needs to be a "make touchpad work like a mouse" setting or something. That or the damn website needs to actually have a tutorial instead of "coming soon." Ugh.

Like I said, mouse emulation is the default action. Your issue is that you enabled swipe hotkeys. Just uncheck that (Use Touchpad Swipes for Controls) and you should have your mouse emulation.

Meh, I give up on this shit. Still haven't gotten the mouse thing to work but that's not even my biggest problem. Do I really have to disable my bluetooth dongle, unplug it, plug it back in and then re-pair the DS4 every single time I restart?

Why can't some company just release some sort of adapter that makes a controller work exactly like a wireless 360 controller? Continuously fucking with all these settings and then having to cross my fingers hoping it works just infuriates me.

I don't have to replug my bluetooth thing at all. Just make sure it's paired once, comes up working by default every other time as long as the bluetooth adapter remains plugged in and DS4 is running before I try to pair to PC. Not sure why your BT is weird, unlike DS3tool you shouldn't be messing with the bluetooth drivers at all for this.

You can also just to wired, I ended up doing that anyway, just got a 15' micro USB cable.

I also use a Bluetooth keyboard because it's nearly 2015 and I go out of my way to have the least amount of wires in my life as possible. The DS4 has to be the first device to connect otherwise it won't work. The keyboard doesn't disconnect unless I manually unpair it or unplug the BT dongle. So that means if I ever restart the computer, I have to go through this whole bullshit process of unplugging a bunch of crap and re-pairing because the DS4 has gotta be first.

Gave up - bought a new 360 pad

I still have mine... but god damn I hate it. It's seriously holding me back from playing any PC games at all. The DS4 is the only controller I ever want to use again.

I bought an asus BT400 adapter and have it paired with my pc. its not working properly with ds4windows... everytime it connects and I start a game it keeps disconnecting the bluuetooth adapter. why????

Did you hold down the PS+Share buttons? You can't just press the PS button.

Also check the program's amount of idle time before disconnect.

yes, like I said its paired with my pc. i connect to dragon age right away (or any other game) and about 20 seconds in to the game the bluetooth adapter disconnects from ds4windows...

Controller disconnect solution:

Someone on YouTube posted a video on how to resolve the disconnect issue. I had gone through three dongles a few months back trying to get the DS4 to connect, and it kept dropping the connection, until I saw his video. It sounds random, but I can confirm it works.

I'll try to find the video. In the meantime, here's what I remember:

- Go to your bluetooth device finder, put it in search mode to look for devices
- Hold down Share + PS button on DS4 (it will appear as normal controller)
- Click on the controller and pair
- If it asks if you want to use a Pair code, say yes and enter 4 zeroes
- Your controller will connect, and then comes the tricky part
- Very quickly go into your newly connected controller, found under control panel --> devices
- Right click on it and go to game controller settings, then move your analog sticks around to test it out.
- IF the stick movements registered, congrats, you're connected for good, and it won't disconnect again. It will now connect by simply pressing the PS button once (hold it down to disconnect)
- IF the stick movements don't register, it means a disconnect is imminent any second, and you were either not fast or lucky enough. Try again.

Will try to find the video since it was buried in Google.

EDIT: Found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7DUV4T8744

I think I saw that but he said he had to do that every single time. ugh.

Also, sometimes wheningame my guy keeps running off and there is an extreme lag. how can this be when my pc is 12 inches from my controller?

I have a BT dongle that works fine on one computer, but then on another the input lag is horrible.

I don't know what to do. The only difference is that the one with the lag has USB 3.0 ports.

I want to test my other BT dongle, but I can't find it. Curse you small factor!

Man, I love the DS4 Windows tool.

I really like the macros. I use them in many MMOS with a lot of tool tips.

I set my macros up so one of my buttons acts as a "shift" key.

I press X, I jump, but when I hold R1 and press X, I activate a skill.

Shit took me a MAD long time to figure that shit out. But now, its damn near perfect.

I only hate this damn dongle that I'm using, sometimes, the connection would straight up drop the controller pairing, and I would have to exit the game, pair the controller again and start the game or the input would go crazy like I would look left, and the game would keep looking left for about a second or two and I aint even touching the analog.

I wish you could remap the touchpad. Having it as a mouse is great and all, but I wish the click was a button - e.g. F12 for screenshots in Steam, or Alt+F10 for videos in ShadowPlay.

In a perfect world, it'd have 2 extra buttons.

That's how I have it set up. F12 is the left button and Mouse5 is the right one (push to talk in Mumble). I also have swipe up, down, left and right as different things in different games. Off that, you could have 6-7 different buttons.

I'm using www.ds4windows.com and not ds4tool.

Hey GAF, question:

I'm playing Skyrim with this, I want to map quick save (F5) to left touchpad and load (F9) to right tp, but when I set it like that on the profile and start skyrim the touchpad doesn't work at all, any clue to why this is?

Have you tried clicking on "Scan Code" (top right of the keyboard window) when choosing your hotkeys (F5 and F9) in ds4windows?

hmm is there anyway to
(1) Set the Trackpad Press as a button (specifically the "Back" button)
(2) Set the Share button to take Screenshots in Steam
(3) Change the buttons appearance to the PS style (instead of Xbox)
(4) Get rumble working in SoM

Well the first one definitely works well although the most fiddling I do is turn off the lightbar but it's stable and doesn't cause any problems.

Not familiar with DSDCS at all.

Thank you, sounds good. I'll download that one and I'd definitely want the lightbar off too.

Just edit or create a new profile. Press the button you want to change on your controller (or find it in the list), then click on the button you want it to change to. You can make the Share button F12, and you can change the touchpad buttons to whatever you want. 3) depends entirely on the game and if the developer is cool, or if there's a related mod community.

thanks Nabs!
hmm there doesn't seem to be an option/button created for touchpad press though :/

I'm using the touchpad for mouse control to my PC from my couch. Mouse clicking and scrolling work great, but trying to type is a hassle. The default virtual keyboard in windows doesn't work, trying to click a key with the touchpad does nothing. Anyone found a good solution to typing with the ds4? Something like the motion control virtual keyboard that the ps4 used would be awesome.

Stick with whatever works for you. DS4Tool hasn't been updated in almost a year, and programs like this one are updated regularly with fixes and new features. The site has a list of features: http://ds4windows.com/
Looking at that site, it's clearly better. Just looks a lot cleaner and was easier to setup.

Thank you for posting the link!
