PS4 slim leaked?

If this is real, this is how it'd work.

It'd have the disk drive, as you can see in the photo. Then it'll have the mobo with the APU and the RAM and all that jazz.

Then it'd come with no HDD, asking you to buy an external one, support for which comes with a SW update that arrives preinstalled on it. Plus, the power supply will be external.

Lastly, it'd be a fanless design, as there is no room for the fan in there. As a result it'd run extremely hot and throttle itself way more than it needs to. In order to combat this, the system reserve that's already in the PS4 SDK stays there as those CPU cores are turned off to cut down on heat.

So yeah, it's fake.
See, guys. Here are the F-A-C-T-S. GaFFers are all engineers too.

The PSOne was introduced six years after the original model released, PS2 slim was introduced five years after the release of the PS2. The PS3 Slim, though introduced three years after the release of the original PS3, was not nearly as small in comparison to its sibling as the previous slimmed down playstations. It took another three years for the superslim PS3 to hit markets.

You should expect the same rate of shrinkage for the PS4.

Doesn't look like a document or a document name from Sony in comparison to what I've seen from them, so I'd wager it's a fake. Especially this soon.

Eh, this is obviously fake (standing view and lying down view don't match up), but it's a different situation. Sony used off the shelf parts in the PS4. It will be much easier for them to cut costs and shrink the console than the PS3. And as you point out in your post, the turnaround to a slim model is getting smaller and smaller every gen.

I have these Portable Network Graphics, but I have no clue how to send them to people.

I know, I'll take a picture of these Portable Network Graphics with my phone!

It's a neat design, but this seems fairly obviously fake to me;

1; CONFIDENTIAL.jpg
2; Off-screen tilted images instead of a screenshot or the actual picture for no real reason.
3; A PS4 with a disk drive won't possibly be that thin and that small with so little ventilation without significant heating problems or super-expensive future-tech. There is just no space left next to the hard drive, disk drive, internal power, and fan to put in anything.
4; The disk drive position is horrible; if you place the thing horizontally, you'll need to make extra space on the side ( which defeats the purpose of a smaller system ), and if you place it vertically, the disk-drive is on the top and will have tons of dust falling right into it.

If a PS4 like this would exist, it would be a streaming box with the disk drive only there for recognition of physical games.

I think it is much more likely that this is just fake though.

Almost exactly five and a half to be specific.

Four years and seven months.

Never doubt based Cerny. That's what I learned in 2013.

Also can you not see that this is a concept picture and not the physical prototype, this could be real just not the final design. It may take 2 more years for the actual physical design to be shown.

Lets wait for the leaked pictures form the Chinese factories, although that won't happen until APU goes down to 20nm.

Now that was an awesome thread. :D People lost their minds in it.

What was the reason so many people were sceptical of that, have people gone to that trouble to fake something before?

Every good leak it's been clear where venting might go or where USB ports might go, these pictures imply there would only be one accessible side for venting, cables, usb, and it's not even at the back, because it stands on its back. Super dubious.

Actually, the turnaround for something as small in comparison to the original model as the fake pictures in the OP has been a steady 5-6 years.

And that really is a bad fake, I mean whoever made it come on. The disc drive takes up a very constant volume, leaving about a tenth of the volume for the internal hardware, compared to a regular PS4. Not happening, it would be a "Jesus busts the door down, shoots wine out his sleeves and announces Crash Bandicoot" level miracle.

the disk slot on the side looks like a dumb idea.
- "but what if that's actually the front?!"
well, then we'd be looking at a sideways slanted parallelogram in our TV setup, which looks dumb.
the slot / buttons would be on top, when the console is mounted vertically, which sounds plausible.

HOWEVER:
the size comparisons are weird, if not completely wrong. The PS4's disc slot is pretty much half of it's inner corpus width. (as can be seen here:

so by looking at the size comparison and superimposing the width of a DVD slot onto both devices, we'd get this:

which would mean that the device is pretty much only a bit wider than the DVD slot, the drive taking up pretty much 90% of the space within the corpus.

which is in dramatic contrast to the "slot to device" ratio on the first pic in the OP

(you could also go the math route and take PS4 measurements, "PS4 slim measurements" and see that the size comparison wouldn't work out, but the graphical way seems to get the point across a bit better.

If this size comparison to the original PS4 didn't exist, this would be somewhat plausible, because the device wouldn't sacrifice as much width, but just slim down in height - the fakers just went overboard here, sadly.

Woah if true, but people raise good points. Less vents which I would be concerned about for a smaller console. Confidential all over the pics.

Personally don't like the position of the PS symbol either, seems too much in the corner and don't personally like the disc slot position, but the size of it is impressive if true.

Ah the disc slot too, good observations!

Without a MAJOR die shrink we are not getting a PS4 that small. This has to be bullshit. I don't see the PS4 getting a redesign for a long arse time, for starters that PS4 is already quite small, and there is lots of scope to have the current design be quieter. We are 2 die shrinks from anything IMO.

Seems way to small to be true. Images show a near %40 to %45 decrease in size. I'm not sure how Sony could make it that compact and keep it same price. Also the files that say "confidential " seem really off to me.

People were using math & measurements to prove that a blu ray drive couldn't possibly fit in the slim PS3 in the other thread too.

the "leak" is probably fake, but reasons like "Confidential" or "it's too small" aren't good reasons.

Probably fake, but I really hope a slimmer and quieter version is released before I get one.

also, this "slim PS4" seems to be fanless. The way the current PS4 ramps up fan speeds (and noise) during demanding games, i can't see a fanless PS4, especially in such a tight package, happening even if there were die shrinks and the removal of the Power Supply involved.

A (slot in) disc drive, a HDD and enough airflow will need a certain amount of space, i don't see such a small device happening any soon.

well, the device in the size comparison shot is not the same size as the device in the glamour shot, that's all i'm saying. - and that's pretty much a fact.

so we're looking at two devices in this leak. The TINY one in the size comparison, which seems to be undoable currently (as it's pretty much 90% disc drive), and the one in the glamour shot, which is in the realm of possibility, yet would only offer a minor decrease in size.
The PS3 slim didn't have that much less of a space footprint than the original fat one, either. It actually got longer.
we NEVER had a downsizing the likes of PS2 -> PS2 slim with the PS3.

edit: dat rotatable logo on the PS2 disc tray ... so good.

The fact that this says "CONFIDENTIAL" in all caps right in the file name should be ringing alarm bells in people's head.

'zis.

btw. where is the hdd? is a flash drive built in?
there is no way sony is able to sell this for less than 400 bucks. slim versions always cost less or come out when price reductions are made.

If this is a fake, Sony should hire whoever did this.

Even if this is implausibly tiny - impossible to be real - they have the design aesthetics down to a fucking T.

Would buy.

Because confidential files are tagged with "confidential" word, as we all know from movies.
Regardless of whether it is actually fake or not, I work at a major oil company and they do tag everything with 'confidential' in a similar way as shown. Even powerpoint slides would be tagged at the bottom.

On topic, if true, then holy shit. It's so fucking small. Reminds me of the PS2 slim design.

I mean, we have the technology to make something that small run PS4 games. I just dont see how they could run them without vents orsome type of cooling system though. And like other said, the sound would definitely be an issue.

Even if it's fake, why is everyone surprised of the size? Aren't they using off-shelf parts, also, let's not forget Alienware Alpha is packing more heat in a smaller device. Not exactly out there when it comes to slim upgrades considering the circumstances.

They all had custom Sony chips. PS4 doesn't. iPhone has introduced the "new model" every year that has worked perfectly for Apple. Do consoles have the same, same model for years market they used to have? Who knows.Does Sony have the luxury of finding out? No. They need to make it cheap and small fast. Would I buy a better PS4? sure.

My company also labels classified info with Confidential tags everywhere sometime. We also numbered codes to show the level of secrecy (1-4)

Why are people saying it's fake because of the naming? That's the last thing where you can pick.

The design is... however, thermally impossible as of right now. But it might be a target they might be attempting in a few years

It's not the Confidential tag that gives it away, it's the "Design and Specifications subject to change..." tag. That's for consumers, not internal development.

i don't think the PS4 needs a slim version to be honest. compared to all PS3 models the PS4 feels like it just skipped the whole launch model and went straight to slim! it's got more length but it's height was smaller than my old super slim ps3 and the width was pretty much the same i think. also my ps4 has always been very quiet and cool.

that said...i will definitely be buying a slim ps4 just for the sake of having the latest model. if they kept the design as it is but just upgraded things like wifi, hd connections then i'd be happy.
