XBL: Games with Gold

What the flying fuck is an #IDARB, some Twitter meme or colloquialism? Really scraping the bottom of the barrel for Xbone GWG.

*Edit* Oh dear Lord it's some awful looking Towerfall knockoff.

Ah it's a free game and i would be paying for gold anyway, but comeon xbox I haven't downloaded any of these gold games except max and that Spanish game I can't remember the name of

Please let's have some retail games ;)

Pretty meh month for me. The 360 games aren't bad, but I don't use my 360 any more and I'm not interested in IDARB.

Ah well, always next month. I wish they would make two games free on the Xbox One.

I played IDARB at SDCC last year and it was so much fun. I am glad to see it in GwG. I know, something must be wrong with me, right?

I already have Brothers on 360 so that is worthless to me. I'll try out the Sniper game.

Idarb is a really awesome game. Got a code from the creator over twitter a couple of months ago and it's really good but MS needs to start giving two games out and full games not just indies

I was lucky enough to get a holiday copy of #IDARB, hey it was going to be free anyway.
Game is a riot in multiplayer, you also have a single player story mode to go through, presentation, commentary and music are all top notch.

Hashbombs via twitter and twitch are always a laugh, still not seen them all and they are adding more in updates.

I think it will surprise some people.

You guys seriously upset with idarb? I saw a 30min youtube vid of these guys playing it and those were some of the most epic battles I've seen. This game has local and online multiplayer with an infinite amount of skins via qr codes. Some people can't even give a game a chance jeez.

I think we will get Tomb Raider DE on GwG around E3 time after they've shown off RotTR personally. Not sure we'll get any other full retail games for a while though.

I'd say DR3 and Ryse were good candidates but they don't sell them standalone on the store anymore only as part of Apocalypse/Legendary Editions with Seasons Pass DLC so I'm not expecting those.

I'm not upset since I see GwG as a bonus but it's definitely not a game I would have ever purchased. It loses a lot of appeal to me since I don't really play video games with my friends when we get together, and I don't see 1v1 online matches holding my attention.

Something tells me Crytek wouldn't agree to have Ryse in GwG anyways. I think the first retail game we'll see will be Forza 5 this summer to drum up interest for Forza 6

I'm happy for the few that will experience Brothers for the first time and love it. Nothing for me this month, though. :(

Quick question for everyone. Why are we still only getting 1 game per month on Xbox One? Since they moved to the PS+ model of you not 'owning' the games, we were promised that this would allow them to be more competitive with the other guys. Instead, they have settled in to a consistent 1-game-a-month model, with a rough game value of $10-$20.

I don't know the price of #IDARB, but my guess would be $15. Here are the last 4 months before #IDARB:

January: D4 - $14.99
December: Worms - $24.99
November: Volgarr - $9.99
October: Chariot - $14.99

I am not speaking about the quality of these games. I enjoyed the little bit I've played of Volgarr, had fun playing Chariot coop with the GF, and D4 is incredible. However, giving away 1 game a month while the competition gives out 2 makes it very easy to compare the services, and it seems that the dollars and cents comparison is definitely against the XB1 right now.

It's not all bad though. I really like that most of the GwG offerings have been day 1 release games. It's really neat to get brand new games. However, it doesn't feel like we are getting the $ value I expected to. Strangely, the Xbox 360's offerings have seemed to improved dramatically in both quality and price:

Feb: Sniper Elite V2 $29.99, Brothers $14.99
Jan: MX vs ATV $19.99, The Witcher 2 $29.99
Dec: The Raven $9.99, SSX $19.99
Nov: Viva Pinata TIP $14.99, Red Faction $19.99
Oct: BF Bad Co 2 $19.99, Darksiders 2 $39.99

With the exception of Dec, the 360 has had an amazing few months of GWG. Great games, in both value and quality. So why all this attention to 360? Why not give 360 users 1 game, and XB1 2 games?

So in summary: Since MS moved to the PS+ model, they promised they would be able to give out better/more expensive games. Have they delivered on this? It really feels like they are giving away the least expensive games they can find (granted, some are very good).

Note: this is not to be taken as a jab at #IDARB or any other GWG game. I am super excited about that game, and am actually planning a party next month so we can get some hot 8-player action going.

Brothers? Great game but I already beat it on PS3. Oh well, I'll go again for the easy 200 (400?).

Sniper Elite? Hm...my brother in law will be ecstatic. Meh month. Was hoping the 360 lineup would really go out with a bang.

REALLY hoping for Halo 4 or Halo Wars at some stage.

I got Brothers for free on the PS3 a long ass time ago, I got Sniper Elite V2 for free on Steam for some V3 promotion (didn't even buy that game). Another month of nothing on the 360... and IDARB is weird. I'll try it out but... bleh. GWG sucks.

Wow, what a joke. How can MS only give it one or two games when Sony is doing 6, sometimes more if you take into account cross Buy. Weak is an understatement.

Were we?

Did they?

Fair enough. Perhaps promised was a terrible word choice on my part, as it was clearly much more of an assumption made by the gaming press and Gold customers overall. However, the question still stands. Previously you could let your Gold lapse and still own the games, now you can't do that and have every incentive to keep the sub in perpetuity. What, if any, have been the benefits of this change?

I don't think anything changed, did it? You could never keep the games on Xbox One if your subscription lapsed, but you could always keep the games on Xbox 360, and still can.

Sniper Elite is a damn good game. Good choice. Brothers is pretty great too. Not a bad month at all on 360.

Still not sure what to make of IDARB, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Free is free...

That's the change I mean. On 360, we could always keep the game and on Xbox One that changed. Do you feel that the value received on XB1 over the 360 has increased with this restriction added? The quality of some of the games has been great, but the $ value has been pretty crap, especially when you consider we get 1 vs the competitions 2, and nearly none of them are over $20.

To me, it seems that the Xbox 360 offerings have been improving while the XB1 has been tailing off. We haven't had a 2 game month in ages.

can anyone help me find these games with gold?

I have an Xbox1 and a 360 and while my Xbox1 has a window that takes me right to my games with gold. I can not for the life of me find any mention of games with gold on my 360. Can I only have games with gold on one or the other console?

As I've said before:

With PS+ you pay for free games and also get multiplayer tacked on for PS4, the focus is clearly on those free games.

On XBL you pay for online multiplayer + Xbox Live infrastucture/service and get some free games. Now, if you don't play online with Gold then fair enough but... this is obviously the way both subscriptions are positioned and how they should be viewed (also note that streaming from XB1 to PC seems to require Gold too, infrastructure!)

Deals with Gold are often pretty good these days I feel, although Sony obviously do comparable discounts as well.

Also your comment about 6 vs 1/2 is completely disingenuous because MS do 3 new games a month with GwG and Sony do 6, you've cherry picked "1 or 2" for some reason.

MS don't have a handheld, although we might see them try and do something with games on PC as part of GwG in the future too, possibly.

I still don't think Microsoft see this as "competing" with PS+. They had to do it to keep pace, but to them Xbox LIVE Gold is still about the multiplayer and about investing in the infrastructure.

If you get one less free game a month that you didn't really want anyway, and in return you get a stable online environment in which to play games, it's a fair enough trade-off.

Will download IDARB because its free but I have no real interest in it. MS need to start making Gold worth it a bit more.

Maybe I'd agree if Gold actually offered something over PSN but it doesn't. The online services are exactly the same on both consoles, and heck on PS4 I can actually take screenshots and now Spotify is on its way.

As is, Gold offers nothing of real value and GWG is incredibly weak. I didn't realize they gave away 2 games on 360 consistently, so sorry anout that. I haven't even bothered downloading any of them in like over a year (360 GWG)

It's true that MS doesn't have a handheld but they could just give out an extra game to balance it out. Heck, all I'm asking for is a consitent 2 X1 games that are somewhay quality titles. Doing only 1 a month is absurd, especially when we don't even get to keep it anymore.

Unless I'm missing something here, what exactly does Gold offer that's so much better than PSN? This isn't last gen anymore

We would probably get more quality games if more quality indies were coming to Xbox One. You have to understand, the PS4 is fucking loading up with indies while we don't got shit. With the 360 they have years worth of games they can fall back on and give out that's why the 360 gives away 2 games a month. We don't have that on Xbox One.

There can't possibly be so few indies that they can't select two a month, can it?

It's not. $10 a month :-3

if you're a student it's only 5 bucks a month

And the free ad based version is, well, free

Hmmmmm. It does not. I have searched the entire store and not one mention of games with gold.

Usually, there should be a Games with Gold section on your Home-screen.

But yeah, you can search for the free game on the marketplace and/or on xbox.com and as long as you are signed in and you have XBL Gold, it will tell you, that it is free.

To be fair, Live held up much better during the lizard squad fiasco than PS did. Live was down 1 day and spotty on day 2, while the PS network was down almost entirely for 4 or 5 days.

However, it is few and far between when they get to flex their muscle in this regard, while we get to see the PS+ vs GWG comparison every month.

Glad I popped into this thread. I had no idea The Witcher 2 was on GWG. Never played it, and the third one looks good enough I may have to bite.

Idarb is amazing. Been playing it for almost a month. Have not grown tired of it. Love multiplayer. Bought 3 more controllers just to play locally. It can go up to 8 though. Need to make more friends.

Brothers is a great game. The only Xbox game where I finished the story and didn't unlock a single achievement. That's pretty cool.

Sniper could be a fun game to pass time.

Idarb...meh. Not too fussed about that. I won't be asking my Brother for my One back anytime soon...
