Battlefield Hardline Open Beta Discussion Thread

I really want to hate this game. I really want to see it fail. I'm still bitter over the BF4 shit show and I'm convinced that EA is determined to drive this series into the ground - wringing out every single dollar it can out of it along the way. I don't want to support this. We should all be furious that this game still exhibits much of the technical faults that BF4 experience on it's launch, 16 months ago. I agree with Gamespot that this Frostbite engine is holding this entire generation of Battlefield games back. And then they have the almighty balls to charge $60 + DLC for this.

But there's something I learned about myself this past week. After thousands of hours in this franchise, Battlefield has its hooks in me, for better or worse. And despite all its problems, I found a lot of fun in Hardline, especially Heist and the exceptional made-for-Heist bank map. Sure it has got some pretty serious balancing issues (but what BF doesn't?) and Dustbowl is a boring map that drags down pretty much any match played on it. But this stuff can be remedied. Historically, DICE breaks as much as they fix, but maybe Visceral can help break this trend. At this point though, I think I'm going to blow $60 to find out. Very much looking forward to next month...

.... but switching to the PS4 version, because fuck hackers.
Yeah, I think heist and the bank are brilliant. It's an awesome fortress capture-the-flag mode with the fun premise of it being a huge LA Michael Mann Heat shoutout. It's really well done. That's not $60 of game there, but I would have bought that DLC for BF4.

I must say I like the challenge objectives and upgrade system a little more in Hardline too though.

Yeah, game is a lot of fun--it's a shame it's releasing in the wake of BF4. Hotwire is basically a mode made for people who love goofing off in BF games (not a bad thing, btw) and Heist (at least the Bank Job map) is a nice take on Rush and CTF.

Not a Day 1 purchase for me, but I'll probably look out for a sale.

Same here. I want digital these days and there's not enough of a deal for me to go day one on it. But I'd certainly get some time out of it eventually.

I thought about grabbing it from GMG with 20% off (voucher) right now...

Most of the hacking goes away with the full version since you have to buy the game and have something to lose when you inevitably get banned.

It is a constant war though and who can say how much effort Visceral will devote to it after release?

48MB update to the pc beta today, wonder what is added/changed?

Update:

Weapons Tuning:
- 870P Magnum effective range reduced
- M16 m416 damage lowered and increased recoil
- RO933 reduced recoil and reduced damage
- Uzi increased hip fire accuracy
- P90 increased spread
- Swapped M/45 and G36c to cops
- Swapped UMP and M416 to criminals
- Reduced effective range .338 magnum rounds
- Reduced 9mm damage Reduced 556x45mm damage (Assult rifles and smgs)
- Reduced Spas 12 damage
- Fixed bug with magnum round recoil where people were losing kills

Gadget Tuning:
- Reduced the cooldown time of the med and ammo packs
- Increased the resupply time for Breaching Charges

Looks good to me, particularly the breaching charge change, Hotwire was turning into minesweeper.

An update on the last day of the beta what!?

Surely they're going to extend this a few days to let people test that?

I was wondering that too. Looks like today is the last day?

I really like those changes, and the fact they actually had them ready for testing at least for the last day of Beta. I think we can expect Visceral to be way better/faster than DICE Sweden at balancing and fixing shit.

I played a couple of hours of it over the weekend and enjoyed what I played. Color me surprised, but the game was smooth as silk and Heist and Hotwire were a blast to play.

I still think this would have been the most successful BF expansion in history; it is still not worth 60 bones, no matter how fun it is.

Did they change something about a vehicles armor in this patch? After about 15 minutes of Hotwire I'm constantly getting killed while driving by light gunfire.

Nope. Only way to get them is to rank up high enough to have them in the trunk of a vehicle.

It isn't rank, it is experience with the vehicle and then buying the unlock. Mousing over the option in battlelog will tell you how many points you need to unlock the ability to purchase and/or equip the item. I haven't noticed rank itself unlocking anything other than battlepacks/fluff.

Stingers are around $95k I think. The experience in the vehicle will come naturally just by playing the objectives.

The one part I don't like is that coupes and sedans are counted as two separate vehicles in terms of unlocks so you have to unlock and buy this stuff for each one. What makes this kind of maddening is that they don't seem consistent in applying this rule.

For this situation in particular there is an option that is available much earlier: Buy the tracking dart gun so that any of the rockets can lock-on to a tracked copter. If the helicopter is flying low enough for the guns to be effective it is flying low enough for you to hit it with a tracking dart. If you're playing with people who know what they're doing a giant red copter screams easy points and they'll head to the nearest RPG.

Don't vehicles rank up like weapons? Essentially it's points with the object but it ranks up with points so I just viee them as the same thing.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Gotta say the game is much more fun with less people on the server.

Also battlelog seems really stable, good job Visceral.

They really ought to amplify footstep sounds or that Stealth Training "gadget" is going to be useless. As it is, enemies sneak up on me all the time. By the time they fire a shot and alert me to their presence, it's already too late.

That wouldn't always be such a bad thing, but it happens even when I'm moving slowly in a quiet area. I can't hear squat. Maybe they should bring back the enemy team chatter from Battlefield 4, where if you kill a guy and his teammate is in close proximity, the teammate will call out that one of theirs is down. Hearing that helps to determine whether there's a threat still in the area. Stealth Training could cancel that out.

Friend and I tried out the beta last night. It was meh for Conquest and Heist. Hotwire on the other hand was a ton of fun since it felt like dicking around while joyriding. I still only plan on buying the Premium edition for $20 bucks next year.

The M16 changes don't really seem that bad to me. It's still getting the job done just fine. I finally had the special M16 reload animation just happen to me in my last game as well.

The beta was alright. Still plagued with the biggest problem in Battlefield, stupid fucking players(really, 3 fucking Assault class dudes in my squad on hotwire!??).

I had fun with the beta playing Heist, but I found Hotwire to be boring and Conquest totally broken.

No destruction in conquest? I thought this was a battlefield game. So disappointed when I tried to expose a sniper that had been harrassing a control point by launching a rocket at the house he was hiding in. Didn't make a dent. Indestructible walls. Totally throws off the balance of the classes when a sniper can take shots out of a tiny window and there's very little you can do in response with a carbine. That's why you're supposed to be able to blow up the walls...

Anyway, with Heist being the only game mode that was any fun, I think I'll be skipping this Battlefield outing. After buying BF4 and premium on day 1 when it came out, I'd rather wait and see what burns when this game gets turned loose.

so i just traded in Halo MCC and need a new multiplayer fps, im not big on military fps's so im not that into.tbe battlefield games, BUT battlefield hardline looks like a cool off- shoot with the battlefield sandbox. in terms of pure gameplay, can i as a casual fps multiplayer fan have fun with this game and have a good time, or is this for purely skilled fps players only? also are the controls and gameplay tight?

I agree. If they don't have destruction I might skip the full game.

I enjoyed what I played of the beta and will be downloading my 6hr access trial and will more than likely buy it digitally.

Yeah - I enjoyed racing around the desert map on Hotwire as the games were so quick and didnt really need co-operation or a friend's list.

I worry about how many game modes the final game has and I'll wait for the trial too.

No buy here, this was like hearing a cheap cover, of your favorite song. For others that had a blast cheers, hope you enjoy the purchase. Not for me at all back to BF4 when the mood strikes.

I enjoyed this a lot a hit around rank 45 but I doubt I'll pick it up because I don't feel like bending over for EA when the inevitable overpriced DLC(s) are released.

I expected to like this game allot since I am a huge BF fanboy but I have a feelings its going to get boring really fast and im not trying to sink a bunch of extra cash in dlc purchases for this game. I think im going to pass on it.

18 hours of beta time played.

16 hours of Heist.

Enjoyed it immensely for what it was. CQ was okay, pretty much looking forward to the non BF elements in game TBH.

Didn't care about the whatever name they attached to it either.

I ended at lvl84 48 hours played. 47 of which was nothing but Dust Bowl. I'm not even tired of that map yet either. I guess I probably should have gave heist and hotwire some more time though. I'll probably be picking this up when it comes out.

Heist was definitely the best. Although I suspect that had a lot to do with the fantastic map. I hope other heist maps are equally as good, and not just re-purposed CQ maps.

I'm also really interested in playing other modes on Downtown. That map was extremely intricate, and seemed wasted on Hotwire.
