Shit like this is why I just dont buy into hype anymore.

I very rarely pre-order now. These games aren't worth full price. Doesn't mean they're terrible and undeserving of a trial, or single play through... but at $60-$70? Nah.

I don't understand this complaint. I never feel that the game is taking controls away from me. WTF is this ? This means nothing at all.

That means you're in the flow, you're right on the spot of player engagement where it's all working for you, between gameplay and cutscene. Other people, particularly on Gaf, like that ratio to be heavily favoured in terms of gameplay, but the Order loves it's constant transitional cutscenes and incredibly long walking around looking at thing sections.

Because it makes sense to compare what looked like a shallow "cinematic" Uncharted wannabe shitty generic shooter which is all about the graphics to a game from a studio whose three last fantastic games prioritize gameplay over anything else. The only thing they have in common is a somehow similar setting.

Bloodborne looks fenomenal, is being made by a team who proved themselves with some of the best games in the last gen and had a very positive alpha test.

Yeah, the comparisson is moot.

You guys get so damn defensive. I was coming from the aspect that a lot of people were putting The Order 1886 up there as one of the tops that Sony was offering. Duh, they are two completely different games, but there was and is hype for both of them.

The Office gif got me thinking is all, plus it did mention Bloodborne...now go eat a Snickers

If anyone needs to apologize it's Yoshida.

Why the hell would he green-light this game, given how outdated it is in everything but graphics.

It blows my mind that RAD thought this game design would sit well with customers in a 2015 AAA game.

Will talk about that later.

We'll see if The Order outputs an "outdated" sales number ;-)

This attitude is far more detrimental to gaming than cinematic games.

While there's room for all kinds of games out there and I agree the review went a bit too far, the one RAD developer's "Ugh... gameplay" attitude sure doesn't help things, either. It's detrimental when a developer looks down on games as a medium.

Don't need to play it; I've read the reviews and even watched some of it on Youtube.

Ain't no way this is getting $70 from me.

Absolutely not liking what I've read or seen.

Damn straight, son. No need to play the game.

I might start watching YouTube videos of games myself going forward. No need to play them. Actually playing games....overrated, if you ask me. Fuck it. I'm going to stop eating at restaurants too. I'm going to watch people eat at restaurants on YouTube as well.

You know what? Fuck, sex too. No need to have sex. I'm just going to watch porn for the rest of my life.

In which regard? Are we saying people with good "judgment" knew it was going to be a bad game? Or are we saying people with good "judgment" knew it was going to be panned two years ago? I could say people with good "judgment" would play the game and judge it for themselves.

If I played every single game just to see if it's good when everyone is saying to me "dude, it's not good", I would call that bad judgement on my part of how to spend my time.

Ive never really been a fan of the argument that games must focus on gameplay first and foremost, as a gamedev myself, i fond that thought unnessicery restrictive.

Im still gonna pick this up, i really like cinematic games, so i wonder how much i would enjoy it.

Exactly. Why do people still pretend as though we're in the era of having to rely on word of mouth and gaming magazines to gather information about games? It's almost like they've never heard of YouTube or Twitch.

Didn't Witcher 2 only cost 7 million USD total? If they did go over their 15 million figure I doubt it was by a huge amount.

They hired a lot and it's now on 3 platform instead of PC only. With all the delays it almost certainly increased quite a bit.

Still no comparison to doing it all in the US or Canada obviously.

Despite all the bad news, which I will probably agree with, I'm still looking forward to playing the game tomorrow. Ready to scrape the barrel for a new TPS, I guess lol

The only studio that I have faith in from Sony is Naughty Dog. Polyphony Digital and LBP devs are known 'good' devs but ive never been fond of their games (but they do produce decent games).

Really isnt looking like an exciting stable. I'd add Quantic Dreams but theyre 3rd party I believe.

That's not what he meant and you know it. He meant that since he read reviews and saw what the game is really like on youtube, it's not worth his money and he doesn't need to spend the 70 dollars in order to have a "valid" opinion. It's in terms of him buying the game, not in terms of playing games in general. The restaurant analogy is similar to mediocre reviews at a restaurant your friend recommends, but you read those reviews as well as having a doggy bag from a different friend and you weren't impressed. There's no need to be obtuse.

Depends on your perspective. From a consumer point of view, metacritic is terrific. Probably saved them $60. For the publisher and developer they probably regret the early embargo. If they didn't send out review copies, they probably would have had a couple days of sales before reviews started piling in.

This is NOT the way we want things to start moving towards...

We can't allow Publishers to sucker people into buying shitty products by delaying reviews from getting out.

Everyone with good judgement foresaw the Order reviewing poorly. Same goes for Bloodborne being good. Whether it's good or great does remain to be seen.

Eh... I don't know. I personally didn't foresee it being bad until those gameplay videos were leaked and it showed what the game truly is a short, uninspired, QTE, snore-fest. Until then the little snippets we did get, looked like it had potential.

Fuck it, I think I'm going to buy it and then sell it back right away. Been looking forward to this game for a long time, and if the length & replayability are the biggest issues, $30 after trade-in should make it worth it.

To be fair, Call of Duty is one of the only series targeting 60 FPS on consoles. A performance target that will become increasingly rare as this generation continues.

As far as the narrative is concerned, this is a game directly targeting the mainstream audience. Expecting anything above mediocre is too much.

Advanced Warfare's story and writing aren't even mediocre, though. They're insultingly awful.

As far as the graphics go, I thought it looked pretty good. It looked better than Far Cry 4 and Wolfenstein, so I'm not sure what FPS games I missed out on last year that looked better than Advanced Warfare.

What's so bad about reading reviews, opinions and watching videos to see if a game it's worth spending 70$?

Is not like the gameplay on the order is so complex or unique that words and videos can't make it justice...

Interesting as most of the people on GAF who have actually played it enjoyed it. Yes its flaws have been outlined by those people as well but none of them said it was flat out bad which is what people are being led to believe. Shits weird.

I cant even imagine how that studio is feeling right now. Probably just got off a couple weeks of overtime crunch only to be met with a crazy amount of hate one day before launch. Man... I'd be hitting the drinks hard tonight and looking at revamping my resume.

The hands on impressions from gaffers and the media were bad though.

You can't possibly comprehend The Order: 1886 unless your thumbs are moving the sticks and clicking the buttons. You can't comprehend it one iota.

well enjoying a few moments of bland intercourse with a girl only to be pushed aside to watch someone else do it better for just as long would probably frustrate most people.

I say most because cuckholding is a thing.

To me it was always clear that the gameplay was going to be completely archaic and mediocre, it was pretty damn obvious, but the story and characters too??

The fuck RAD?

So fucking true.

This is why astro-turfing is poison to online communities.

Now we are accusing people of astro-turfing when the entire outlook on this game for months has been negative.

There have been negative impressions at EVERY SINGLE EXPO this game was shown at. Not universally of course, there were some who liked it, but every time its been shown its been painted in a decently negative light by those who experienced it.

And because reviews are coming in super negative, and people are deciding not to spend 60 dollars of their hard earned money on a 6 - 8 hour game that has 3 hours of cutscenes then they are astro turfing. How ridiculous.

Yeah this is why I don't understand people reveling in the game not reviewing well.

People poured everything they had into the game, and by all accounts it has been meticulously made... One reviewer said 'over polished'. Imagine pouring 5 years into something for this day and this is what awaits you? That's gotta be rough.

Holy shit, at the people talking about Sony greenlighting games and what not. You'd think people would like the fact that Sony is allowing devs to do what they want, no matter how "bad" it would be.

i know this has been quoted many many times, but this sir is pure genius, quite possibly the funniest gif i've ever had the pleasure of viewing.

to add my own thoughts, I'm not a fan of having control taken away from me in a game. I really want to play it but i'll probably buy when it's dirt cheap or borrow it off a friend.

Sorry RAD, you had me sucked in with the whole concept but to quote Duncan Bannatyne

Well a bunch of posts in this thread and YouTube comments make it seem like it does have bad gameplay. I think what people are missing is that the gameplay mechanics are actually solid, but it's just not varied enough and the game doesn't offer as much as others in terms of content/replayability.
