So, how long until Ready at Dawn issues an apology?

What ? Why ?

You don't apologize for making a mediocre/bad game. If anything, you can get motivated to make a better game next time, but they don't have to apologize to make the thing they wanted to make, however flawed it can be

Can someone tell me what most of the reviews have in common in terms of what the reviewers disliked? Why is this game receiving 6's across the board, is it solely because of the length or are there other reasons?

But it's so committed to telling you this story that it often wrests control of the experience from the player just as they're getting into its world, the gaming equivalent of someone talking over the movie.

Taking control away from the player seems to be a common complaint. This is such a huge no-no for me as well.

Yes, it's a point he made very clearly in the last weeks, yet he comes to this thread and acts like his decision depended on The Order being good or not.

probably because he said he doesn't feel like buying a PS4 for one game (being Bloodborne). if The Order had surprised him that would make two games and maybe that would have been enough for him to purchase one.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to get at here...

For what? The game isn't broken.

Fully expecting someone on the team to make some shitty remarks about how reviewers or "whiners on the internet" unfairly judged them and that people "just didn't 'get' what they were trying to do."

"I dunno if I can justify buying a PS4 for 1 game right now" after seeing the mediocre scores. Why would he say right now?

Maybe he had a sliver of hope this game would turn out well in the back of his mind and would make a PS4 purchase easier to justify.

Now the only thing he has to justify the purchase is Bloodborne, a single game. That's my takeaway from it.

If anyone needs to apologize it's Yoshida.

Why the hell would he green-light this game, given how outdated it is in everything but graphics.

It blows my mind that RAD thought this game design would sit well with customers in a 2015 AAA game.

Best gif I have ever seen. Period.

The thing that makes Sunhi's GIF's so legendary is how they perfectly blend the source material to what is happening.

I mean the imagination that user has to have is unreal. They always find the absolute perfect clip to put with the topic. Its pretty amazing in all honesty.

really does make you wonder about the hype train that is Bloodborne...

Because it makes sense to compare what looked like a shallow "cinematic" Uncharted wannabe shitty generic shooter which is all about the graphics to a game from a studio whose three last fantastic games prioritize gameplay over anything else. The only thing they have in common is a somehow similar setting.

Jesus Christ... I obviously haven't been around long enough because I'm pretty surprised at the celebration surrounding this game's disappointing reviews. Holy shit, you people are ruthless.

Between this fuckery and all the stories about the way people who work in the industry are treated, I'm really glad I gave up my childhood dream of making games a long time ago.

The reviews dropped overnight for NZ so if you are getting it delivered via courier here, you are pretty much out of luck with returning it.
Just an FYI, for people saying that it's a waste of $60 (US $). Think about us poor plebs in New Zealand who purchased the collectors edition for $159 for this game...

F**king game hype man, that shit will drain your wallet then crush your soul. Time and time again.

We all fell for it atleast once. Don 't feel bad. Can't you return it unopened?

The thing I'm most surprised about is the gun play was apparently simply average. That's a shame cause it seemed like there was a ton of cool, power weaponry.

This would make quite a bit of sense if the Order itself was a low budget experimental game. Which it isn't.

1) I didn't know how much the budget was.
2) These criticisms would be nullified if the game instead was critically successful and went on to sell millions.

So then what are we arguing?

You've seriously never seen a movie reviewer talk shit about Adam Sandler movies?

I don't really follow film critic media that closely, maybe because there's generally more options available to me in how to see a film and less cost of entry. More interested in the production elements, if anything.

I don't think that would sit well with me either though. Sure, lambast whatever [insert medium] falls terribly short, but probably not in the manner Rosenburg kicked off. Doesn't matter if it's a film like Die Hard or one like 50 Shades of Grey.

Again, a lot of people on GAF have issues with folks like Gies (and certain developers) having similar behavior. Not sure why suddenly it's all well and good.

Edit: For the record, I do agree with the average at this point and much of the dialogue within the reviews themselves. Has nothing to do with that.

Gamefly just shipped me The Order. Looks like i'll get to check out this gen's biggest 5 out of 10 this weekend.

Can't wait to be simultaneously wowed and underwhelmed.

Right now, FromSoftware is in the same place Pixar was a few years ago (after releasing Wall-E, Up, and Toy Story 3) where I'll play anything they make until they convince me that they're slipping.

So I have preordered it.

This is why I love GAF. There really isnt another place that has all this drama and narrative in their Review threads or NPD threads. Or the hilarious gifs. Heck, most sites don't even do NPD threads or care about tracking them outside of press releases.

It's amazing how everyone says 'What a shit game" without even playing it. I know this is gaf and whatnot but holy shit. I might need to take a leave of absence from gaming forums

Nothing to apologize for. I am confident they were aware of the reaction they were going to get.

Absolutely. The writing has been on the wall for this one for weeks and weeks now. It's a shame because it looked like it had so much promise when it was first revealed, but hopefully they learn from their mistakes and come out swinging on their next game. I'll still pick this one up when it hits the bargain bins

Think people are happy that a game that prioritizes graphics over gameplay is a bomb.

This game pushes graphics and it seems to suck in the gameplay department.

Another problem is selling customers a game with such little actual gameplay for $60.

isnt that the point of reviews? to save you from spending money on bad games? I can't buy every game possible that might be good so we depend on reviews. It is not a perfect system because it is still opinions at the end of the day but I will take this over spending a shit ton of money to gave devs the benefit of the doubt. I just don't have the cash for that.

Or it could have been spent on something that majority of people would like even less. Reality is, this got made, it's in some ways different than other similar games (not many of which are being made anyway), and arguing that something like this not getting made would with any certainty provide more diversity, sounds like a thinly veiled attempt to say that only games you approve of should be made.

I just...seriously. The original argument was this:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=152780345&postcount=4627

It was about a *sequel* and that not making a sequel would lessen diversity. Which is clearly wrong, exactly because money is not infinite.

1. GAF is a vocal minority
2. Work environment in the industry entirely depends on who you work for and your job title(just like any other industry tbh)

This game looked like a complete mess in the first gameplay trailer I saw. Seems it stayed that way which is sad. Also fuck "cinematic aspect ratio".

I was so hyped for this game before it was announced to be a linear shooter. That first announcement trailer was ridiculous.

That will happen when your game doesn't have matchmaking.

Half joking.
You don't want to be matched with randoms to do a raid, you know how many people afk in strikes? Too many, so even if there was matchmaking, we would still be at OT 17 because it's a gaf community thread of people who want to roll with people from gaf.

Everyone with good judgement foresaw the Order reviewing poorly. Same goes for Bloodborne being good. Whether it's good or great does remain to be seen.

In which regard? Are we saying people with good "judgment" knew it was going to be a bad game? Or are we saying people with good "judgment" knew it was going to be panned two years ago? I could say people with good "judgment" would play the game and judge it for themselves.

DLC? :p Or maybe a sequel. I will get this at some point.

They have said nothing about DLC of any sort but it wouldn't surprise me if something was added down the line to explain a few things. As far as sequels go will probably depend on sales.

I had the conversation two weeks ago with some friends over how something seems..."off". Like it just felt like they were being cagey with what they were showing and how they were showing it but I couldn't really put my finger on it and go, "Ha! See?!?!"

Also...I really wanted it to be something special and not a cautionary tale.
