"The Order: 1886 is the best game from 10 years ago (review)"

Score: 70/100

10 years. damn.

It isn't another genre, though. It's a third-person shooter. A very short, linear, story-driven, QTE-filled third-person shooter.
That is a genre man, cinematic more story driven games. It's one of my favorite genres and I really enjoyed this game as well.

Why do you guys really think that all games will turn cinematic? What are your favorite genres then? Are you worried the next Mario will be linear cinematic qte game?

Everyone feels so bad at those kotaku pizza stories. But in reality it seems like everyone really likes the idea of game companies failing and closing, no second chances. Just goodbye.

Really cruel in that sense.

It is pretty pathetic. I don't really know why many people on here can be so rabid. I feel the same way as I do with Crytek. They have the technical elements down, they just need to partner with another studio that produces games with solid gameplay.

Let me ask you this....is the game out yet? If the game is not out yet, just how reliable are these "impressions"?

Gaming sites shouldn't really count, plenty of conflict of interests with them . I do see your point for the most part though.

And let me ask you what conflict of interests is there? I have no reason to doubt it.

I just wonder why Sony didn't use all that time and resources to release a game like The Last Guardian that will have more impact in the community.

Maybe they want to make sure it scores above an 85 metacritic to avoid the public outcry. Metacritic is all that matters to a lot of people I suppose. It sure does provide good ammo as you can see from most comments in this thread and on youtube when it comes to Sony's exclusives.

Yes, because as I said within the same post about the way scales are viewed nowadays, with anything below a 70 being worthless to many, it does seem sensational.

But you have not played the game. Would you be equally upset if the scores were all 90's or are you just upset that the review scores aren't validating your interest in the game?

All these reviews pretty much confirming my worries. I feel like this will be like the time I got super duper hyped up about the Bouncer for PS2 :(

Haha, I made that comparison in an earlier thread on this game.

At least this time around I have plenty of disposable income and am not a kid who is lucky to get one game purchased every half year or so.

Gameplay? It's playable no?
Is it broken? No.

David cage games are not good on this point but reviews are not that bad.
Even ryse reviews weren't that bad.
I Cleary don't get it.

You don't have to agree with the more negative reviews, you know?

Gaming Trend gave it a 95, thinks that the Order should be Sony's new flagship IP, and concluded:

Literally no game has ever looked this good. It’s strange to even write that, but The Order: 1886 raises the bar so far above its contemporaries that it stands in a class by itself. Joined by a soundtrack that perfects the mood, The Order is a cinematic masterpiece. If you want to show off your PlayStation 4 to your friends, this is the title to showcase.

I can't speak for other people, but I am happy that The Order got bad reviews because I don't wanna see a game like this ever being made again. A game should be about gameplay. It seems like RAD are more interested in making a CG movie than a game. I read one of the interviews in which they would go for days making environments without adding any gameplay and sometimes forget they were making a game instead of a movie. In the same interview, they also said the studio was all about making a movie or similar things. As far as I am concerned, RAD deserves all the criticisms that's coming at them.

So you would deprive me of a game I want to experience? Why can't you just not buy the game instead? You know, there will always exist games for everyone. That has always been the norm of this industry. Why are people wishing that some games aren't made just cuz they don't like them?

It boggles my mind. Everyone wants diversity, but only when that diversity caters to certain norms? Thats not diversity at all.

If you don't like a game, just don't buy it. You can hate the game all you want, and please, do criticise them alot. But, please, never wish they aren't made. Thats bad for the industry.

While I'm disappointed in the review scores and expected at least a bit better, I'm going to pick this up tomorrow anyway. I have a Target gift card burning a hole in my pocket, bored of my current games, and I do enjoy cinematic third person action games. Sounds like this is a good game to platinum as well. I know myself and my tastes well enough to know that I'll like this game.

Hopefully this game at least breaks even. Ready At Dawn is a good developer and their heart was in the right place, things just didn't come together properly. Hopefully they get a shot at a sequel or another big new game.

yes I am making my decisions based on other's impressions, it's a very common thing to do.

Well, everybody hates Destiny. I spent 360 hours (and counting) on it and that's only for one of my characters. Basically, all I did gaming-wise since september 9th is playing Destiny. And the point is not if the game is good or not. The point is that, I, love the game. If I had listen to the popular opinion, I would have missed that.

I havnt read too much of the reviews but a lot of it seems like they just were expecting, or rather wanting, something else rather than what it is and have not forgiven it. That being said I have only read a little bit.

A 2.4:1 aspect ratio is common in film, and it does make movies feel more cinematic. It is part of that medium’s common artistic language.

But the 2.4:1 aspect is not common to games. We don’t go to movie theaters to play the latest Metal Gear Solid. We use 16:9 televisions, and developers have delivered perfectly “filmic” experiences with that before.

Instead, what’s likely happening here is that the PS4 couldn’t handle The Order’s eye-shattering visuals running at a full 1,920 by 1,080 pixels while maintaining a reasonable framerate. Cutting off nearly a quarter of the image helps with that. - Venturebeat

Any other reviews outright say that?

Aaand im off to experience it myself. Its cool they gave me a comb with the game so i can scratch my head with it, if it turns out to be utter shit.

To be honest, the gaming sites i frequently visit outside of gaf where positive about the game. The last 3 games i bought have been trashed in the media (and gaf) beyond belief, and i have enjoyed those very much.. (one with an alien, some game about cars in a corridor and a grindfest on 5 planets.)

This industry is going to hell with its these journalist and armies of fanboys hating on games in general.

That's becuase the ways in which Uncharted is cinematic is very different from the ways in which The Order is. Uncharted is cinematic because it looks like you're playing a movie, The Order is cinematic because half the time you are watching a movie.

Also, UC has gameplay set pieces. You're shooting on a crashing train or collapsing building. That's what makes it cinematic, not cutscenes.

In The Order there doesn't seem to be anything like that.

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
I don't get this. There's a ton of games from the PS2 era that shits on everything that comes out today. They should found another way to make their point.

yea i don't get that comment at all. Don't shit on the ps2 because The Order sucks.

As for my mgs4 comment, of course is not exactly the same but i always felt that mgs4 was a light game that used cut scenes to pad it.
