Core gamers to drive PC growth past PS4, Xbox One and Wii U, says OGA

I think these predictions assume that gamers will still fall for the same old grinding traps clever developers have set for them on mobile and even PC. Smart gamers know those old tricks are going to eventually stall.

True, hence destiny selling poorly.

wait..

(I wish you were right and people were over skinnerboxes, but it takes years for people to catch on and by the a new generation is ready to fall into that trap)

Mobile skinnerboxes are ina league of their own though, holy shit idk how people don't instantly see those 'games' for what they are

Revenue Growth =/= Good games as evident by their Tablet phone numbers. That said More Good PC and Console games out there the better. remember most "analysts were saying both where going to disappear in a tidalwave a iOS shovelwear just a few years ago.

Not those analysts. DFC has been correctly predicting continued PC gaming growth from before iPad launched.
And heck...I don't remember any self respecting analyst predicting PC gaming's death at the hands of mobile in recent years. All the doom and gloom was concentrated on consoles.

The PCGA (or the OGA as they're calling themselves) is about as useful as a lemon in a Formula 1 race.

The data doesn't come from them though, but from DFC, which is independent entity. I think OGA just pays for public release of those numbers instead of having them locked behind a paywall.

It's never like this.

PCs hibernate as consoles flourish, historically. I am open to the idea it'll be different this time, but I don't quite understand what they're saying differs this time round.

Actually the only time it did truly happen was during PS2 era. One ocurence isn't exactly a strong argument for historical trend.

and this can't even factor in what DX12 is going to do.

Telling ya right now companies that miss this are dumb if they can't spend some effort to get more pc minded teams and products. Not asking for AAA budgets but if effort can't be like indies you're not getting money except when sales are going on. Next to Wii publishers not taking advantage of pc right now is mountumental stupid.

As someone who works on the sales side of the industry and whose career is directly affected by this stuff..

.....PC is flourishing BIG TIME right now and shows no signs of slowing down

That's great to hear, the proliferation of open platforms is good news for everyone.

This is about as inane as mobile replacing consoles.
Neither is capable of doing so.

The millions that play cod, Madden, FIFA, battlefield, GTA, etc aren't going to suddenly begin playing on PC because there's no reason for them to do so. Same way that someone who enjoys modding wont give it up for a console.

Growth can occur without affecting the other segments. Handheld are screwed, sure, but everyone else isn't exactly hurting either.

A more accurate way of saying the same thing is that you can't see a reason for them to do so, which is understandable. I don't either, in the here and now. But we have to consider that technology moves fast and that games consoles are stationary hardware-wise while PCs are constantly evolving. Also, the state of PC gaming is radically different from the beginning of last gen, when there was essentially no Steam, a significant number of console games were never released on PC and much of the industry believed that the platform was on its deathbed.

Today, PC gaming is easier to use than ever before. It has an industry-leading digital platform with tons of features, developers support the PC en masse, living room gaming PCs are becoming a thing and VR is just around the corner. These are hugely exciting times for PC gaming and core gaming in general.

You do realize that 3 of those 4 franchises are already on PC, right? Plus, those people you list don't have some incessant hatred for other platforms.

And that GTA5 has been in the top 10 sellers on Steam for months. Game isn't out still for a while and is currently sitting at number 3 on best sellers.

I mean its gonna clear over 1 million on week 1 on PC easily
