Well yeah wow that's interesting. I'm having a dejavu, feel like we talked about that kinda stuff before for 4G but maybe not.
That reddit post lists 2 japanese sources, one of them is where I usually go to for this kinda stuff (atwiki) which says what I said, the other lists the ones on reddit.
There is a possibility they changed it around from 4-4G/U and 98% of the other pages just transferred their old data.

I mean you can try, at this point I'd like to know, but it's probably easier to just ask/beg around a bit.

Also, any tips to make money expeditiously?

The popular methods are:

* Selling akantor pieces
Group cheese tactic, all members carry flashbombs and stunlock while attacking the head

*Fishing in Dondurma
If you have finished the storyline of MH4 you can go to Dondurma and fish on the net to the left of the bridge (has the 2500z and 500z fish). Best done in an armor that has 'ranger'

*Subquest cheese
Look for subquests that are easy to clear (part destruction, topple by mount) and clear them, sell the mats you get for more profit.

(if you can make it to G2 you can use the Rathalos tactic

If you're G2 and have any insect glaive you can also get explorer (alcohol+fish if not a daily) and go to Rathalos (Sovereign of the Sky) and mine a bit, then return to the zone where you started -Rathalos should be waiting there now- and do 2 mounting attacks to break it's back and cash out via sub.
Can net tens of thousand zenny and lvl10 charms.)

Fucking did it. Needed extra traps (and that fucker jumped off when I planted a 2nd pitfall), but a good leap slam cracked both horns. Sadly, I didn't get the Ghoulish version, but it's doable at least!

Awesome, I get in a mounting attack most of the time that helps tremendously, the terrain is good for that. Hope you get what you need in no time.

Now that I made G rank I made some Konchu Vambraces X that fit in well with the Tetsucabra S armor for the time being. However, I am so tired of looking at the Tetsucabra armor. I use horn so Maestro is an important skill and I would like to use Evade. What should be my goal for armor? Barioth X? Tetsucabara again (ugh)? Regios X armor? Do most people rock their high rank armor until G2 or so? I need to earn a lot more cash before I can do anything, so I have time to think it over.

Quick money: create gathering set. If you want charms, get charm skills as well. Then, go to the quest in the following link.

Gather from the mining spots, kill the ioprey, end via subquest. If you're lucky you'll get ancient shards which can sell for 20k a pop if they turn into the ore weapons. Sell the ore, collect some good charms, repeat. Make sure to get explorer.

Hmmmmm. There's the app that MHFU iOS uses. I think you can create chat rooms and whatnot with it. I believe it's called Lobi and I wouldn't be surprised if it had versions for other phones.

Hello Mon Huns, I don't have a 3DS but am interested in Monster Hunter. Is it worth grabbing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U? I've been holding off because it'd be better to play with other people (strangers don't bother me so I'll take what I can get) but is it not even worth trying to play the Wii U version? Wanted to ask here cause I figure it's the best place.

I'd say yes. Just because 4u is out, that doesn't make 3u less of a great game. Lots of fun monsters to fight (many the same as 4u, and a bunch that aren't in 4u), and gear to get. The core gameplay between the two is still the same. And I know I'm in the minority, but it has underwater fights that I really miss.

I've been using ps4 party chat when I play with a friend of mine. Bit ridiculous, especially being tethered to a ps4 controller, but it's worked so far.

The reason is thus: IRC is piss easy to join. In fact, it's easier to join this IRC room than it is to actually join a guild hall. You literally just click this:

And type in a username. Done. You now have access to a much better chat system than the in game chat provides. It also provides easy access to new rooms (for more private hunting), and is so easy I figured it out in about one click.

If we start using this, then we can finally overcome MH4U's only glaring issue. And if you support the idea, then it's easy! Just whenever you post a guild hall, also post a link to the IRC I posted above. All anyone has to do to join is click it and type in the name. Boom. Now it doesn't take half a minute to say "Man you know I just really ha"

Also I guess it has installable clients for those heavy users. But most importantly, it provides brain dead easy joining, which is important because so many people will go "eh fuck the chat, I don't feel like loading all that up".

Ok, I am sold on this game. I played a bit of 3U on 3DS and it started to click but I never really got the combat and didn't bother to read any FAQs or watch videos. I'm not really sure what made me impulse purchase this one - probably this huge and very active thread - but I'm so glad I did. I checked out some of Gaijin Hunter's videos and immediately I started to get it. I'm just using a great sword so nothing complex but I'm looking forward to mastering that and then trying out something completely different. I've just been breezing through the monsters at this point but I know I have some challenges coming up.

Do you guys recommend just charging through the single player stuff for a while? I'm a little gun-shy about trying to get online since I'm so new and not very far into the game but I'm also jealous of you guys all playing together. I just arrived at the second town after doing the first urgent quest.

The farm alternative for MH4U unlocks during or at the end of Caravan 2. The bug route, and thus honey, unlocks near the beginning of Caravan 4

I really like playing single player until I beat a batch of new monsters (a caravan rank or two), then go online and do quests to raise my HR until I'm roughly caught up. I feel like I get a better experience by having to at least overcome the challenges once solo, rather than having new monsters "spoiled" by what is usually a considerably easier co op experience.

It also has helped in that my wycoon and canteen are kept reasonably advanced from the caravan quests, so I'm not hurting for the hunting supplies I like to bring. I mostly play HBG, so swimming in cash, ammo, and ammo materials from the wycoon is nice. No really wrong way to play though!

Definitely. Not only do you unlock pretty much everything in single player but you also actually learn the game and the monsters much better.

Really up to you. I'd recommend making some progress in caravan since it unlocks features like the wycoon, decorations and so on. But it's really a matter of what you feel comfortable doing. If you get too far ahead in one or the other, you have a lot of catching up to do at some point, though. So I'd recommend a balance.

Yeah, Caravan 7+ is high rank, with some G mixed in later Caravan 10 I believe.

Not sure how I had so many contrary scales when I've only fought Chaotic Gore a handful of times. Anyway managed to max out the Ceadeus charge blade and the thing is a beast.

I need to get sharpness +1 though. Barely any tier 10 weapons have innate people sharpness. Miss my Lucent Narga weapons

Yeah, you can play with randoms. You can also search for rooms specifically aimed at the level you're at (1*, 2*, 3*, etc) so you don't end up joining a lobby of people much further along than you.
