the hyabusa stick is designed a bit differently compared to the sanwa/seimetsu sticks. I think it has a casing around the stick itself. I don't remember

I took the JLF from my TE1 and dropped it right into the Kai. I haven't tried it on the HRAP4 though. I'll take a look when I get home.

I'm under the assumption he took the Hyabusa out and put in a JLF he pulled out of a TE.

First is aesthetics,if the character looks cool or weird. I tend to go to weird characters (necro, Sim, Faust, voldo).

Then I see their playstle, Zoners or grapplers.

Thats about it. Zoners and grapplers and how they look.

If this was actually a thing that existed, that would be some REALLY stupid logic on Capcom's part for all the reasons already mentioned. I mean just WOW O_O

Yep. I hope that they would change their minds and revive the project for current generation system.

Quick question. How many people here understand OS theory and how it applies to every game, and actively use it and play around it?

Edit: In case this comes off as condescending, it's not. I'm legit curious about the average player who's into this.

It's one of those things where it's not required, but very highly recommended. I don't really use it often but do use it once in a while. If used correctly, adds another layer of yomi game.

I was using them before I knew the term for them xD

I use it, especially when it's easy. Things like that P4U2 OS take some time getting used to just because I can get blown up for it and I guess there's timing involved depending on how your opponent does their pressure.

I'm not the best at figuring out new OSs on my own, but I do mess around with trying to discover the best OS on safe jumps at least. Stuff like OS backdash Margaret DP or OS tatsu Bison's reversal options, etc.

SF4's probably the most influential for me on OSs. Before that, the only ones I did were OS parry stuff or MP/MK throw OS in VS.

So many weird ones in SF4 that it made wrapping my head around the idea and with other games so much easier.

I understand OSes perfectly fine, how they're applicable and why they can optimize gameplay significantly for someone in any game.

I don't use them at all.

Oh this is a good one.

- Are they Marth? (i.e. a character with great pokes/range, the ability to threaten people more with their movement/mindgames off weaving in and out of their max punish range and ability to whiff punish or generally "shark" people when you smell blood in the water)
- Do they have interesting space control tools and how many situations can they be used in?
- Does the character look/sound like they'd be having fun during a fight, are they dorky, or do they generally fall closer to the optimistic side of things?
- Any guns? Swords?
- Do their attack animations feel like they have solid "oomph" factor to themselves?
-- On a similar note to the above, do the characters look good in motion? (Great animations during movement and attacks; think Zero Suit Samus in Smash 4 [chick knows how to fucking HUSTLE or Marth again in Melee/Project M])
- Are they black?

Edit: Iaido characters are hype as fuck, coffeeling reminded me to mention that. As are high mobility TPS characters stuck in 2D fighting game rules. Hence Elphelt

why don't you like shulk tho

i've used os's a couple of times, but haven't really put them in my gameplan. if you're also including crouch teching then yes, i use os a lot

This.

Other than crouching teching sometimes in SF4. Or very specific OS's and only when I remember. For instance green hand after a jump in on Akuma incase he teleports. Again though I usually don't bother cause I'm ass.
I also would love it if OS's didn't exist at all

In all seriousness I do OS in terms of teching with other buttons sometimes

I used to sweep OS, but then I learned Delayed HP DP works too and since then

Same. Sometimes when I go for a jump in OS (expecting some sort of reversal) but I manage to hit the jump in for some reason, I get mindfucked and fail to follow up with a full combo.

I understand it more or less, i know some counters to it (typically: delay stuff just a little).

I use simple ones like crouch teching or throw OS in GG. I'm a pad player so some of the more difficult ones with pianoing and a lot of buttons at once are too hard/annoying for me.

Every time I try implementing OSes into my game, my level of competition makes them useless and they fall out of muscle memory. I spent hella time developing OSes for backdash in SF4 only to have people online never backdash and choosing to Reversal special moves instead. In GG, throw OSes get beat FD jumps, so I stopped doing those.

Character specific OSes I just can't be arsed to deal with, unless I know I'm playing at the highest levels and need to refine as many aspects of my gameplay as possible.

Wow, I would not have picked you for a Gief main seeing this

Zangief neither claws, nor rushes down.

He hands and hugs.

I picked Gief cause I was an '11er, picked up fighting games around that time seriously (or at least tried lol), and didn't have any form of execution down in fighting games so Gief seemed like the perfect fit. No charging, rarely any combos at low level play and did damage. If I were to pick up SF again, I'd probably main Cammy and dabble with Vega since my execution is pretty good now.

60% aesthetics, 40% gameplay, but I won't keep playing a game if I can't get both.

I like monsters, creatures, and demons. Firebrand, Dormammu, Shuma-Gorath, Blanka, Oni, Zato/Eddie, Dizzy, Bowser, etc. Preferably evil.

In terms of gameplay, I love space control, especially characters that can hit you from anywhere at any moment. Zato can spring Eddie up from under puddles, and Dormammu has Purification. I would say Zato and Dormammu are my favorite FG characters ever right now. Street Fighter has nothing that satifies the gameplay desire. Smash doesn't have a character that has aesthetics and gameplay - I have to choose one or the other. I am hoping Mewtwo is good for both.

BlazBlue has Arakune, but his execution is leagues beyond my abilities the last time I played. I also think he is "gross" because he is a mindless wretch. I value intelligent characters a lot. Firebrand and Shuma-Gorath are "monsters", but still intelligent. Plus, Arakune being a puddle of goo because man "went too far" is a turn-off for me.

It's all rather complicated...I can explain more if you want me to, but I suppose this is more than you wanted.

I understand how they work and have implemented them into my game to some extent but since they don't ensure much more coverage in KOF and can interfere execution-wise with hit-confirming I don't always go for them.

There are also those I've basically dropped because they cover shit people have stopped doing. I could safe jump OS EX command grab as Clark but these days most people know not to just reversal roll out of the corner.

I'm aware of what they are and how they work on a general level but don't actively look for, use, or play around them much. The super-basic, practically-universal block/strike and block/throw tech defensive OSes are about the extent that I use them at, and I haven't really dabbled with offensive ones at all.

- Visual Design: Does I or Will I enjoy looking at this character on my screen all the time? Do I like His/her stylings? Would I like to grab control of this awesome moves??

- Hard hitters are first in Line (Makoto, ShenWoo, Paul, Abel, Gouken, SheHulk, Nightwolf, Thor, Jin Saotome, Ivy, Hulk, Goro, etc...)

- I enjoy control this character? Do I like the control scheme n design of this character? (Arthur, Doc Strange, Ermac, Jade, Elena, Yun-seong, Raven, DuoLon, Yang, Venom, Hawkeye, I-No, ...etc)

I'll be sure to keep doing these since everyone is enjoying them. Sometimes its just good to give everyone an excuse to talk about what they like and why. Helps remind us why we are all here.

It's crazy to think how much Momochi improved his Ken in a short time. I mean, he was already a top tier player. I still remember his super close match against Smug at CEO last year. Bodied his Ken 1 game and he went straight to Juri and barely won. Then Infiltration beat him convincingly in GF. That potential rematch at FR is almost as exciting as Bonchan vs Snake!

Pls, US players. This isn't GG or Third Strike. Don't let the Japanese own our souls this year.

How do you choose who you will main in a fighting game?

I usually pick a shoto, a charger and a grappler, like in KOF98 or a mix of those three styles.
eg Karin in SFA3, Victor, Demitri in Vampire Savior, Akari in Last Blade, etc

In SF2T I stick to Ryu though. Zangief is too difficult to use the grab correctly

Well, one of my friends said my fighting game could best be described as a mix of Aoki and Sawamura from Ippo

What I want is

a) ability to fight at long range
b) unique properties, especially in terms of breaking defensive OS's and forcing players to think
c) low-execution if possible

That influences my design, usually you can't get all three in one character- but I can get 2. Chars like Billy Kane, Jeffry in VF, no one really in SF4 ever suited me, Hon-Fu in the Real Bout games.

My thing is I generally ask more questions than make statements to promote conversation. I always really did this and it helps me learn stuff as I go into new games myself. Last week I decided I'd just give how I usually post in these threads a name and this week I figured since I'd been doing this off and on in various fighting game threads for years I'd go ahead and make it a little pinup.

I dig promoting thought and folks talking about how they approach fighters and aspects of them on a personal level since we all play differently. I learn a lot from these things so I thought I'd do my normal questioning stuff a little louder and fun from here out. If nothing else comes of these we all get to talk about what we love.
