Do the resists have to be -10 or +10 to count against/for you?

I noticed the set has a lot of -cold.

And last question for today. Do people register sets and call them say fire resist or whateve rand then change in and out for different fights? I guess it seems like the answer would be yes.

thanks!

Yup, has to be at -10. So if you end up at -10, just throw on a single gem that gives +1 or +2, and then you'll be at -9 and then you couldn't care less about it.

EDIT: I personally moreso do my sets by either what they DO, or what they attack with. So I have "Fire SnS", water, ice, thunder, etc, then eventually I'll do the same for bows, and the third page is reserved for extra, silly stuff like gathering, transporting, fishing, etc.

If they are armor skills, yes.

If they are resistances on your status screen, no.

Resists are different than skills. If you're -9 fire will hurt a bit more. Note that you may have confused people a bit here because there are elemental resist armor skills - those will affect your resistances if you get them to + or - 10.

Resists can have pretty noticeable effects if you're extremely weak to an element, and if you're very strong to it then you get a little icon next to the number. This means you're immune to 'blights' associated with that element, like for example Rathalos can't set you on fire anymore.

There's no need to swap out sets. Just eat a food combination that cancels it out - you can have -20 fire but if you eat for felyne firestarter it'll set it to a positive number.

Anyone have any tips for Chameleos? I beat it my first try in the Caravan, but I need to farm it for the next weapon I want. What I did was stay behind its back leg most of the time and whack at its tail till it broke (took forever), broke the wings/back via mounting, and mashed its face whenever I knocked it over till the horn broke. The fight just took me too long. Granted I was playing it extra safe since I had no idea what I was walking into.

Are there any tips/tricks to make killing it easier? Can you flash bomb it out of the sky after it spews poison out underneath it, making it float in the air for a few seconds? Things of that nature?

Really? I haven't used the res up stuff yet, but just got to the double gore armor set, which is insanely weak to fire. Was going to come ask if eating for resist was okay or if I need to have a different set for fire monsters. Thanks for preemptively answering it.

I assume that may change in G rank, but at least for now that helps me feel better.

I believe you cant cut elder dragon horns or tails until they are below 30% health.

I haven't fought chameleos in this game but my old standby was fire dual swords and poke his back leg, then go for the head. Looking forward to trying this and then finding out he's been totally changed, or something.

Fought my first MH4U Deviljho. They didn't really give him any new moves did they?

He gets a few new moves. In G rank he stands up perfectly straight and takes a few little steps before shooting his dragon breath forward.

-Alternis

Edit: I believe G rank Deviljho is capable of doing a 2nd pin (activated with a forward bite) in which he carries you in his mouth and eats you while simultaneously attacks other players normally.

Of course Jho would get a move like that.

Not fond of fighting two Jhos but I need to have that Ceadus CB. Smoke bombs, traps, flashes, status meats, and two cats for bait FTW!

Don't know about horns but you can definitely cut the tails before that.

I'm looking at the wiki for Chameleos and it lists a few general things I find interesting:

■Cutting the tail and breaking the horn causes its camouflage effect to stop. Dragon Element is needed to break Chameleos' horn, while the tail can only be cut once Chameleos is at a total of 30% health.

■Throwing a Smoke Bomb on Chameleos will temporarily make it visible.

■Sonic Bombs detonating near Chameleos while it is in the middle of an attack cause it to flinch and turn it completely visible for roughly 1 minute. There is also a chance that Chameleos will drop a Shiny when this happens. This can be done regardless of whether Chameleos is in Rage Mode or not.

Are all these still true for MH4U? I could have sworn I broke its horn, and I was not using a dragon element weapon.

Maybe Chameleos works differently regarding his tail than the other Elder Dragons. And this dragon damage needed to break an elder dragon's horn is from FU I believe. I've broken plenty of horns without any dragon element weapons in my parties.

Savage deviljho is a NIGHTMARE (at least the G rank one for me). You can only fight the G rank savage deviljho in expeditions so far (I believe), and even though you can die as many times as you want, I raged quit from 3 expeditions before killing him. His dragon breath has insane Range, and it feels to me that he moves twice as fast as the regular variant. He has more combos and does them faster (for example, he can do his left/right swipe attack and then immediately turn around and do a stomp extremely quickly). Finally, you better take dung bombs against G rank Savage Jho since he does his 2nd pin so much that I'm pretty sure every forward bite pins you.

Holy shit, did he get worse from 3U? I mean he wasn't exactly a purring kitten in 3U, (really just more of an EXTRA pissed Jho) but I never really had a problem against him haha.

Anyone else have the issue of not being able to decide on which weapon to main? None of them have really clicked for some reason. In the past MH games I've used Lance and Bows but even them I'm just like meh.

Honestly, in high rank it wasn't that much of a problem, even with his new attacks. Though sadly due to my lack of dung bombs I had to escape pins every few minutes. However, the G rank one in expeditions (even without THAT much health) does so much damage. You actually have to watch yourself with him. Getting hits with his attacks have more repercussions than in high rank. In general, I'd say the high rank one is like the 3U one whereas the G rank one is like a Savage World Eater (referencing the damage that the World Eater Deviljho in Tri did).

So weird how some monsters just click and others wreck my shit. Did two G-Rank expeditions last night the first for Azure Rath and the second for Gore. Azure used to be one of my stronger monsters but he is an asshole in this game and I get the snot knocked out of me every time I fight him. His expedition was no different and it was a super frustrating experience for little payoff.

Decide to do Gore right after cause why not? And I just annihilated him. No carts, barely healed, overcame frenzy easily every time. I really enjoy fighting in general and his shiny drop wound up being a mantle. I have a Nyctgem from....some other fight so I have the rarer mats for his set. I almost feel obligated to make his armor now. Hunts like that are just so enjoyable that they totally get me pumped for the next fight.

Made a tiny bit of progress on my keys in G2. Diablos is another monster I have pretty a solid handle on so I at least got those two out of the way. Eventually gonna have to bite the bullet on the Brachy/Stygian quest, ugh.

The solution is to go in debt and main all the weapons!

But seriously, it's totally okay to use more than one weapon type. I switch back and forth between Light Bowgun, Sword & Shield, Long Sword, and Hunting Horn. You'll find your niche, don't worry :)

i gave up fighting him like I used to in 3U and instead flash bomb every time he so much as hops in the air. It's the only way.

Yeah G Rank doesn't have much health. You can take it down pretty quickly if you constantly attacking it. The problem is that Savage Jho is ultra aggresive, especially during rage mode where it most likely combo you to the death (dunno if two hita considered as combo). The fight get prolonged because we want to avoid it during rage mode which in furn makes the fight whole lot painful experience.

As an IG, the problem increase twofold. It is very hard to get red juice from it since its head positioned very high, forcing to risk yourself getting pinned or bitten. Then there just shitty luck where you juice run out when it eats tinged meat, makes you missing the chance to dish ton of damage and most likely screw the hunt in the process.

Man I got a pretty good support SnS set.

Wide-Range +2
Item Use Up
Recovery Up
Alloy Stomach
Fire Atk +1 (although there are no real good fire weapons I can use for this)

Those event quests were totally worth it!

Okay, so how has OT2 been talked about so far? I completely lost track of where the current page number was and didn't realize it was time for a new thread.

This is my first time having a thread actually reach this point, but traditionally a new game OT gets made by the poster with the highest number of posts in the thread, which would be Kinsei. I'm going to PM her about this to see what she wants to do, but I don't mind making the second thread, especially since I was planning to reorganize the first post and add information about the DLC release schedules anyway. She might not want to go through the trouble of needing to update the post through a Pastebin every month.

Anyone got any ideas for a new subtitle, though?

Sorry for not playing with any of you all. I was hoping to finish the caravan quests before going online, but my 3DS broke two days ago, so it'll be a while before I can play again.

I go out of my way to change things up every new game. In FU I used many weapons, some only for very specific monsters but in Tri I got way too dependent on hammers. I always think it's best to have at least a couple of different weapons ready - some monsters are just vastly easier with certain weapon types. You learn this quick when you do arenas.

It can get expensive to use multiple weapons especially as a gunner, even one gun costs a fortune to get up and running and you need at least two for HBG. The rabbit hole never ends if you're into element/status LBGs.

Haven't seen Kinsei in this thread for a while now, best to contact her as you said.
We've had some ideas for a title, but none of them seemed to stick so we're still in the process..

I personally think gunning in this game is a losing proposition since you have to literally fish for ammo and that stuff goes so fast that by the time you know it your 2 stacks of fish are gone.

Really? I haven't seen that. The few threads I follow have one/two community members that make the threads. I don't think anybody would bat an eye if you copied/edited the current OP and just posted a new thread.

going poor is what I'm worried about! hehe

I've tried every weapon in the tutorial but out on missions I've tried, lance, charge blade, Insect Glaive, and dual blade. Maybe I just need to pick a couple that I find ok and just rotate like your doing :)

I hear ya on keeping a few different ones for different monsters. I'm still low HR so I was just trying to find one main one to level up until I got high enough to have to start worrying about optimizing everything.

I spent utterly ridiculous amounts of caravan points on the fangs I need for pierce 2 so I'm good for a while. No idea where to get pin tuna en masse. Online it's very rare that you run into a monster that isn't dead by the time you're out of pierce 2/3 so it's usually not an issue. But yeah it kinda sucks, soloing a g-rank monster with certain ammo types can be a big drain on your resources.

Normal 2 only uses vendor materials though. I just buy 1000+ at a time on sales.

You would have been assed out anyway by continuing to do Caravan only. Guild hunts unlock additional food buffs, Wyporium upgrades, expedition monsters, Wystone upgrades, and most importantly, additional Caravan quests.

Anyway, of the OT titles thrown out so far these two have been my favorite so far:

Monster Hunter 4 |OT2| I'm really felyne it!
Monster Hunter 4 |OT2| I fucked up my Kinsect

Whatever you/Kinsei pick, please don't pick another mounting subtitle.

Post the ID in here and I can almost guarantee you'll get a bunch of G rank people magically appearing to beat it up for you.

as for the fight, I tried soloing it a few times before I caved in and watched a video. There is a lot going on.

Sales are great. I always load up and spend a huge chunk of change on sales.

Also, I want to point out that (for me) I never had an issue running out of ammo and needing to combine in Low-High rank. As long as you're making full use of weaknesses/crit range, you shouldn't be running out until you're soloing online G Rank.

Yeah, there's no problem unless you want to use Barrel Bomb L+, Sleep shot rank 2, or similar combines.

Fire s, dragon s, etc are essentially unlimited thanks to wycoon. Ice s is a bother but at least you can buy them from time to time from wycoon with caravan points.
