Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I've had the USFIV TE2 for less than 2 days and the stick is already squeaking. Was hoping I could go a long time without having to open the damn thing. I don't trust myself with things of this nature :/

I sold my TE2 to my friend and we replaced the buttons and stick. Half the stock buttons broke on the way out, rewiring the buttons was an absolute bitch as the easy release tabs are very finicky and the plexi already looks like garbage. Squeaks and creaks constantly. The stick squeaking did go away after a bit though. Seemed to need breaking in. Making the TE2 easy to customize seems to have hurt it overall. Feels cheap, which is ironic as the Kai costs less and feels more premium.

EDIT: I should also point out that my Razer Atrox has NONE of the mentioned issues, despite it also being extremely easy to mod and having roughly the same feature-set as the TE2. It's very disappointing, but it's been nothing but a headache.

Got my Kai in on Saturday and finish putting in the new buttons.

Need to force myself to play more and more on it as it feels really awkward after playing pad for a long time. Also is there a universally accepted grip for the ball or is it just a "whatever works for you". I use the "wineglass?", but that is just from ages ago memory.

Love the color scheme on those buttons!

Damnit I went with the same color scheme but only got 6 buttons now I want to get the start and remaining buttons too! Looks great with a white ball top too.

Funny enough, I just flicked the stick for a good minute and couldn't hear it squeaking at all anymore. Guess it needed breaking in like you said. The rest of your post, however, scares me lol.

Squeaking from the lever or buttons?

It was from the lever, I think. The squeaking magically disappeared overnight.

Guess Arcade Shock doesn't take pre-order cancellations eh, I can get the VLX much cheaper from Japan and I'd be guaranteed not to get extra custom charges.

Has anybody heard if there are any xb1/360 sticks in development? I'm hoping with all these PS3/4 sticks out that maybe MS is now encouraging it on their side as well. My mad catz fightstick standard edition finally bit the dust and I'm not really feeling buying a last gen stick.

Arcade Shock most definitely does refunds. I cancelled my vlx preorder and they refunded the next day. The idiotic thing is that I just ended up ordering it again lol. The hype train is just too strong.

That's great news. I can save so much money by getting it from Japan.

I think Madcatz announced a X1/360 compatible stick.

PDP has a X1/360 fightpad coming out alongside MKX, so worse case scenario there will be a padhack option at least.

So I went to Final Round and one of my hopes(besides winning a few matches) was to snag a Guilty Gear TE2. I don't play the game but I like the design. I met MarkMan and he told me it sold out within 20 minutes I think. Their were two Persona sticks left but I'm not a fan of the design or colors and I'm no modder so I'm not going to put in the time to changing the stick to a design I would like. In the end I told him I'll just wait for the blue MCZ TE2 like I had preordered a while back.

Anyways, it was really nice to finally meet you MarkMan. If you plan on buying a stick at NCR or another event you better be prepared to show up early or you'll be out of luck.

I'm selling my 360 since I only use it for SFIV and the PS4 version is pretty much around the corner. Only problem is I don't know what to do with my sticks.

I'm going to need a PS4 stick. I should probably buy something official, but are there decent mod options available? These are the sticks I currently own. Not sure if I should mod one to work with the PS4, or sell and buy a new PS4 stick.

360 - Mad Catz Sanrio
360 - Eightarc 360 Onyx
PS3 - Mad Catz Femme Fatale - Pretty sure the PCB is messed up, so it could make a good modding candidate since it can't be used.
PS3 - Completely custom stick with Toodles Cthulhu that could also make a decent modding candidate.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I dunno if Amazon buyback is still high, but some folks in this thread were able to use that to fund their gen 8 sticks at no cost.

Otherwise you have some candidates that might command a high price due to rarity, namely the Femme Fatale and the Sanrio ones.

In terms of mods, the Hori Fighting Commander 4 PS3/4 fightpad is a good candidate for padhacks. I don't remember if it it's common ground (facilitating dual mods) tho.

Do your sticks work with PC? I might be interested in buying one if so.

Nice to finally meet you as well! Yeah we'll have some more at future events >.<

Currency conversion I assume?

Yeah pretty much. Plus shipping from the US is so much more expensive. Nippon-Yasan uses a French shipping service that allows you to pay the customs upfront. And even then it is cheaper than actually paying them once it gets here.

But that said, Nippon-Yasan put the stick on unavailable already, for whatever reason. And its not even been 12 hours. Also, it's still available on Amazon Japan. So I'm not sure what to expect. I'll still try to have them work something out with me, but it does not look too good now.

How long has it taken Gamer Finger to ship to you guys?

I was waiting on a certain washer to get back in stock on Focus Attack to complete an order and a friend convinced me to go for the GFs instead. Not sure what to expect here but I'm picturing the click of an old IBM keyboard.

I bought it from Focus Attack because it came out cheaper due to shipping (at least for me).

edit: Just as an estimate, I bought them on Thursday 3/19/15, they were shipped on Monday, 3/23/15, and expected to arrive on 3/26/15 (1 week). I don't know if the delay was caused by Final Round or if GamerFingers take longer to ship out. My last order was shipped within the same day.

Thanks! I probably should've ordered from FA, didn't think to check. Still, hyped that we'll soon be getting GamerFingered!

What sort of button layout do people use for MK on a stick? I actually find a pad more comfortable being able to have the block button on shoulder.

Most configurations feel awkward on a viewlix layout stick if you want to keep a finger hovered over the block button.

When I tried on a Vewlix/Astro-style joystick, I played:
[Blk] - [F.Punch] - [B.Punch] - [Stance]
[Blk] - [F.Kick] - [B.Kick] - [Throw]

Which felt unnatural, but was the best I could get it to feel.
The PDP stick with the traditional "X" layout was much better and I played through MK9 like that.

Then, I played MK9 on Vita with the pad and that was the best fit just as you indicated.
So, I'll probably be playing MKX on the DS4, but will give it a try with the PDP stick again and doubt I'll bother trying the VLX when it gets here.

It's funny, I always prefer a stick... Except with Mk. I always end up going back to a pad for it. Mainly because of the use of block and general lack of complex directional inputs in comparison to other fighters (FADC->Ultra, etc).

Unfortunate, was really looking forward to using the stick for MKX.
What's stopping you? When I did, I was using a typical SF 6-button layout, where block was assigned to the 2 buttons farthest to the right, and the 4 attack buttons on the left.

As others have said I prefer pad for this game. The input is easy enough to where I don't feel like I need the precision of a stick and always trying to have a finger over the block button throws me off more than anything. Or you could always track down one of those PDP sticks they released with the X layout. I've seen a few in person and they are.... interesting.

I've seen people play on stick without any problems they just assigned 2 buttons to block using the traditional 6-button layout. It's all up to you in the end just find something that feels comfortable.

It takes a bit, but the packaging is cool when you order direct from them...

The Red switches feel great but they do not have a click to them. If you want an audible click, I recommend looking into the Cherry MX Blue switches -- you can order them from anywhere (Focus Attack, Elite Keyboards, etc.).

Actually the build quality was pretty great, but the components needed upgrading in my opinion. When I had one, I swapped out the buttons and stock for IL parts. After the swap it was great.

Same here. I actually prefer this to the MK "X" layout.
