Puella Magi Madoka Magica Episode X-End
Wow, what an emotional ride through this one. It's not what you expect at all when you first see the images. Of course she came up with the best possible outcome to
"end the cycle" for her friends and all others from becoming witches, to do this, she became a "God" and placed all of that burdon on herself.
.

It is definately a good one though; well written, great characters, story progression and pace were excellant no real smut, no harems, and tells a good tale, albeit dark and sad.... Great pick and experience here.

Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy.... he's a bastard
alien
plain and simple, there are no excuses.
Half truths and manipulation doesn't make it not deceit
...

Since I was hooked up with a 24 hour pass, time to catch up on the latest episodes of Cross Ange, Log Horizon and Saekano real quick.

Yeah, it was a really good episode, very well written...

What time-line does 3 take place in? Is it a spin-off and tells a completely differnt story?

It takes place in
an alternate timeline where the girls are still alive
Its a really disorienting film that feels familiar, yet very alien in the world of Madoka Magica.
Also, the cake scene <3

Akatsuki no Yona 1-24

That non-ending though.

This was as interesting series to play in the background. I found Soo-Won much more compelling than main cast and only really paid attention during his episode with the Wind Tirbe. Aside from that, I saw a lot of potential with the plot and characters, but boring romance antics involving characters with the emotional maturity of a ten year old, unnecessarily long flashbacks, and constant reminders of "BUT SHE'S A GIRL SO WHY DO I FEEL SO _________" held it back. I'm actually fairly saddened by this because there are little flashes where it really does seem like that an intelligent plot could be unfolding, but the whole thing feels so dumbed down to appeal to the target demographic. Yona herself even feels like she could be a good character, but the more and more I was reminded how special she was, the less and less I was willing to believe it. The particularly annoying moment comes when the pirate captain asks her what she can do, but apparently 20 or so episodes of camping in the wilderness and practicing the bow lead her to say she can do absolutely nothing. It's particularly frustrating because the show keeps pushing and pushing that she's supposed to be this amazing person, and yet there are barely any results to show for it 20 episodes later. As if to help this out, we also have Hak, who could actually be the worst offender of dragging the show to its abysmal pace. He spends most of his screentime being awkward about wanting to get under his princess's skirt, tell her she can't do the things she wants to because she'll be in danger, and being this model male lead for the main demographic to fawn over.

Aside from that, the other side characters were fairly fun and quirky, although the lack of group dynamics made it fairly evident that we were watching Yona and her followers over a group of people with interesting relationships with each other. The green dragon guy was a good exception to this and came off as far and away the most interesting of the others.

I did really like the first opening and the second endings. They worked very well with the story and helped the idea of the show being a bit of a fantastical period drama.

All in all, I liked it as a side distraction, but would really prefer to see a bit more of a "show don't tell" policy in the script, because this show could really use it. I'm a bit more excited now to see how The Heroic Legend of Arslan turns out, because from what I can tell it has a bit of a similar plot but aimed more at both genders in terms of demographic.

I like your thoughts ,but i really disagree.

First ..lack of group dynamics ?? the group was formed in front of you and the more people in it , the more their interractions were intense and fun .
And yeah " what can you do " is actually on point ..her skills with the bow are good but still below hak.. and as a fighter yona is trully weak.

Soo-won is indeed good because it's clear that his motivations are not driven by a simple quest for power.

And the show ended up that way because it was over when it would trully start. a shame..S2 is needed.

Without spoilers, What is is with the 3rd movie? Is is completely differnt tone, or even darker and nonsensical?

The follow-up that this franchise deserved. One cannot claim to have watched madoka without the third movie./

Subete no aware
Didn't know people disliked S2. I liked it when I saw it, but I don't remember it now. Because of the way CR works I watched that without realising I was watching a S2. And then got sidetracked and never went back till now.

But yeah. This has got me interested in rewatching as well as reading the manga. And really I really like Ayane and Chizuru so much I'd read/watch a story about them.
The anime pretty much hints at where those stories go, although I haven't read the manga myself in ages, so I'm not even sure where they are nowadays.

WTF is that song?

The movie is the "Rebellion" one, correct? The one that is on YouTube?

It looks liek it's on Youtub, so I'm watching it on my phone now...

EDIT: Crap, nevermind, this is the fist movie as it's goign over the original events...

I swear I will watch this just to see how bad it is.

dude wat. I would love to hear why you would recommend anyone this, except if said man was your mortal enemy

Glaslip is a romantic comedy ?..wait no.

i guess DTL choose that based on the "drama".

But Glasslip isnt bad, and though it started out slow, the romance in it was kind of nice to see it grow over time and everyone grow on their own or with their respective partners. The fantasy futuresight aspect was intriguing too. Really its one of the most underrated anime.

Gundam Build Fighters Try Episode 24

Reiji could have shown up in the anime or something.

Sekai deserved a role on the floor level too, he is like an honorary Try Fighters teammate at this point in time, especially considering the outcome.

Great fight though it would have pretty terrible implications for people who were living in that colony (a junius seven, I guess), and then when part of the Earth got chipped off...Would be interesting if a Gundam actually did do that in a serious series.

Lance Bits were amazing, more Gundams need bits, its one of the coolest parts to mechas.

Madoka Rebellion is a ovie that you definitely don't want to watch on a small phone screen since it is so visually stimulating. Watch it on a proper TV set!

^ Apparently it has the best female character arc of 2014.

It's really bad too.

Watch the movie to find out!

The completionist in me will probably make it happen. (ಥ﹏ಥ)

A reflection of the season or of ourselves?

And the more I think about it, Tokyo Ghoul's 2nd half really was a waste. Painfully so. Funny how I complained that the OP was trying it's hardest to be deep but just came off as boring and drawn out and that exact same complain can be made for the whole second series.

The silent implication that first season was worthwhile is the biggest praise you ever gave this show. lol

A while back. Seems perfect.

Or this one. But seems like bit too late for it. :(

Shirobako 24

"You know, I have the strangest feeling that I've seen that ship before. A long time ago, when I was very young."

This is one of those rare seasons where the anime I like and the anime that AnimeGAF as a whole likes mostly overlap, and for me, what I liked about Shirobako wasn't so much that it was about adults or the workforce, but that it was about artists and creativity. You can have an anime with five girls in the lead and make it interesting. (Though the anime industry still has quite a lot of dudes. Such is the way of the world.) It even got people to care about Exodus and Aerial Girls, shows that, if they were actual anime, would've gotten a "meh" at best before they aired. The cast was still fairly young, and that's one of the things I like about anime. Its characters haven't hardened to the world yet. They'll make mistakes because of it, but those mistakes are where stories come from.

The documentary-ish/biographical nature of it does help quite a lot, but it also proves that every anime, from your idol shows to your kids' shows, everything more than just the big tentpole releases, has people doing their best behind them. Whether it's an original or a tie-in. There will be communication problems, time problems, budget problems, but nobody actually wants to put out a bad product. Not saying that such products can't be criticized, but more that nobody goes into an anime saying they want to be bad. That applies whether it's an original or a tie-in.

The theme I got from this is how such a difficult environment, though collective teamwork, ends up making art happen. I have a lot more respect for anime now, and after seeing its behind the scenes stuff - if slightly stylized - I'll keep that in mind when viewing every show. I wish we had gotten a little more in the way of writing and voice acting, since those are the fields I'm most interested in - and voice actors' jobs can be just as strenuous as the animators. They're more visible, but that doesn't make them less important. I don't think I'll ever be fully animation literate, or want to analyze my shows that way, but I can appreciate it and will try to work it in at least a little.

Plus it gave me two new shows within a show that I can analyze to see what they say about the anime of today. Maybe one of them will be turned into a full length anime ala KujiUn someday. And there's still that spinoff manga about them in high school. Maybe, like Free, that could be turned into a movie. Or a spinoff series. Or an OVA. There's a lot more to do with these characters.

I liked it. Probably not for exactly the same reasons as everybody else, but it was something that might become a classic.

Gundam Reconguista-26[ fin]

Noredo getting Chuchumied in the finale was the best part of the episode.
I want to say that I have no clue why I finished the show. That would imply a lack of a firm opinion on my part. Unfortunately I do, I stayed for the Yoshida and mech designs. I hated almost every single aspect of this shitty fucking show and I stayed because I liked the character designs. *sigh* There are so many bad elements of this show such as Raraiya being literally retarded for half the run, 10 different factions being introduced with zero fanfare, plot elements that pop up and are unimportant, and characters in general either being stupid or insane. Like why was Bell even fighting in the first place? Then we have Luin who wanted to randomly kill his ex-best friend because Bell is somehow going to become a dictator. You also have Manny who really doesn't put up a protest about Luin getting a hard-on at the prospect of killing Bell. Just completely stupid. There are parts that are completely supposed to be comedic in nature but due to how stupid or lame the joke is, I deadpanned my way through them.
8EtKPsn.png

When you need a chart like this just to explain the goddamn factions, your plot is beyond convoluted.
I can't even say that it's just the writing that is the pits but things such as direction and storyboarding are terrible too. I mean I knew Tomino was a terrible director a long ass time ago but good lord this is the worst work I've seen from him to date. That said, I don't go around watching some of his true 'masterpieces' such as Brain Powerd or Garzey's Wing. Many scenes have no tension, buildup, flow, or consequences. We have characters being killed off and then promptly forgotten about. The latter half of the show exhibits traits of Tomino's Kill 'em All Phase but is nowhere near as impactful as say Zeta because I don't give a fuck about any of the characters and it's not as extreme either. So we're left with a show that just has the worst elements of Tomino as a director and writer.

I can say the mecha combat did get better with Sunrise siphoning off any talent from Try and moving it to Reconguista. I mean the fights still weren't storyboarded that well but many sequences did have some sakuga cuts buried in there. The OST was pretty forgettable other than the theme songs which were largely wasted as both the OPs are atrocious visually.
izUljplp5NRBa.jpg

I did enjoy all the brown waifus though.
Hopefully the Reconguista franchise is dead so Yoshida can move on to better things and I don't waste any more of my time watching a bad show. If I'm lucky, next time Tomino can get a shitty character designer for his show so I can be sure to skip it. :)

The French call it nanar.

Cinderella Girls 11

Cats and rock, two themes that seemingly don't go well together unless you're talking about next season's Show By Rock!!, in which case, of course they go together. I like episodes like this, where two characters bicker with each other and then learn to work things out. Also, with this, all the girls in the main cast have been divided into either units or, in Ranran's case, a solo persona. Riina and Miku kinda feel like a "they're all we had left" duo, but the story really made it work. Plus we got to see a little bit more of their lives outside of the production company. Makes me wonder where the show is going to go from here and in its second half.
