Developers don't see their creations like consumers do. You wanna know something, they're so pretentious that most of them (especially the artists) actually consider their wacky creations "art". Even with games like Serious Sam. Because it is art man. And that's why he is so passionate. Game devs don't get seen as artists but he is one and he's incredibly passionate about what he does, and I think he is standing behind a good thing.
When you take it out of his (creative) context and put it into ours (consumer), it kinda seems like... wtf

you can easily do that with lights from flashing cameras though so even if she did bleach her skin over the years there are many ways photos can lie with brown skin
I take photos all the time under different lighting and get those same differences with my skin

actually I booted up the game and I think you're right, that image seems to be using one of her 3 custom skin tone options. so I was wrong. however, her default IS darker than that image.

I don't remember reading that they are related. I know she is your first partner on DOAXBV (hey I didn't own the game, but someone I know did haha), but I don't think she had any relation to Zack. I don't remember her interacting with him in any game too.
