WHOAAAA

Iwata appeared at the end! Confirmed real.

He should've some obscure remix of a starfox song so it sounded "new" and found someone who could impersonate Iwata well to say something specific lol.
And learned programming to fake gameplay...

Fatal Frame is coming right.................right?

Welp, now there is a supposed Starfox Horizon leak which shows the last part of the trailer in the supposedly upcoming ND. It's on YouTube for now.

The logo doesn't look the same as the previous one (different colour).

lZzeqhN.png

Is the part with Iwata from a previous direct? That would discredit this rumour instantly.
You believe this?

Also at this point I will be happy about the Wii U library when we get Fatal Frame, Pokken Tournament and Legend of Zelda.

“Hey guys, I strongly believe that Kikuchi Keisuke will release the Fatal Frame 5 in America, in many countries. He and me have same philosophy from Tecmo days. That’s what I can say for now. I want you guys to read between the lines

I want to read between the lines, too, Itagaki. I want to read in between them hard.

Getting Fatal Frame would be a big boost to this year's Wii U lineup, considering the loss of Zelda. Would love to see it happen.

Aww...that's not what I wanted to hear. :(

Then consider that this is an outlier opinion that doesn't invalidate all the glowing praise from elsewhere. You'll find someone who isn't too hot on anything if you ask around long enough.

Now I'll tell you that I think DKCTF makes other platformers look like a joke. Because that's how I feel about that game. It's that good.

OMG it's totes legit! Some guy got to take a video file for a Nintendo Direct home and decided to capture a very generic looking logo, white background and a scene of Iwata moving taken from the January Direct and leaked it to the world on his YT account which Nintendo totally couldn't use to track him down. lolololololol

Seriously, why even post this shit?

The leak from the German guy is confirmed fake. He admitted it was just a joke. Life goes on :/

Nintendo Direct leaks are always fake. ALWAYS. They never ever once were real. None of them. Not a single one. Ever. Especially when someone posts a rundown with lots and lots of details as if they had it in front of them to transcribe stuff from lol.

I wouldn't mind the comment much. How much you enjoy Tropical Freeze depends, IMO, on the mindset you have when playing it. If you go into the game with the goal of playing it casually and clearing the levels, not minding the KONG letters and stuff, you'll probably like it but don't understand the "GAF hype". If you collect everything and play the secret levels, you'll like it more and maybe understand the "GAF hype". If, however, you play it with the goal of mastering the game, playing time trials and that stuff, you'll absolutely love it. Of course, this is how I view the game and, if you're bad at platformers, you'll probably hate it haha.

Aww...that's not what I wanted to hear. :(

All I really meant is that don't hype it to the moon or you could be disappointed =). GAF did that for Wonderful 101, but it really just clicks with some and not others. DKC:TF is less polarizing though so don't be too worried. I liked the game overall enough that I finished it, but unlike DKCR I didn't 200% the game (I did get all the Kong letters and puzzle pieces though) because I didn't really care to. I felt like the puzzle pieces were better hidden in the first game and when you didn't find them, it was typically reasonable or something fairly cool. Bosses are much better in this game however, and it's very possible to be obsessed about David Wise's soundtrack (didn't quite click for me to that level, but it was a good set of songs).

Metacritic users really like the game (513 reviews, average 8.9) for example.

For fun I'd like to discuss the game in spoiler tags with folks that have played through it:
Out of curiosity, what did folks really like in this game over DKCR?

Bosses? I completely agree with. Much better than DKCR.

Music? I can see the new tunes over remixes. I personally find them pretty decent, but nothing compared to DKC2 as a whole (Scorch n Torch and Grassland Groove are probably some exceptions, and the remix of Aquatic Ambience).

Characters? - Sure there are more of them, but most of the time they honestly felt more like a gimmick rather than being too deep or anything b/c you were still tied to using DK as the 1st player. Sure you sometimes needed one character to get a puzzle piece or what not, but I didn't feel like it was anything big. Plus Dixie couldn't fly like in DKC2 =P (obviously that makes sense, but still).

Levels - here's the big one honestly. I felt like the beginning of World 3 was deserving of the hype. I just loved Grassland Groove, Frantic Fields & Scorch n Torch. Baobab Bonanza was fun enough, and Twilight Terror was fun enough with the tease of Stickerbrush symphony. But then Cannon Canyon (which is literally just the same thing over and over mostly), and Bramble Scramble (which I didn't really get the point of it), kind of ruined the world. World 4 also had a pretty cool stage with the octopus as well (Irate 8 I think)? However, very little in World 5 really was that interesting imo, and while World 6 had a couple of interesting takes on things, it wasn't really enough to sate my tastes.

Graphics - Not a huge deal, but DKCR -> DKCTF was really a marginal improvement imo. DKCR was just a gorgeous game on Wii, but DKCTF seemed like they kind of went with the old engine, made some graphical improvements (mostly just angles), and thus it was serviceable. I guess I just wanted an obvious jump in art after a similar kind of thing with NSMBWii to NSMBU.

I didn't mean to disregard your opinion but he felt disappointed before playing because of it!

About your spoilers:

Bosses are indeed much better here. Designs are way cooler and the fights are more interesting. I replayed DKCR just before DKCTF released and the difference in boss quality was incredible. Only crappy boss in DKCTF, imo, is the final one.

Music in DKCTF is incredible. There's a lot of variety and many awesome tracks. I feel it completely destroys DKCR's soundtrack, especially from World 2 onwards.

You're undervaluing the difference each character makes. I'd recommend you to watch time trial replays in the game and you'll see how much each character changes the game. Admittedly, Diddy and Dixie are pretty similar in ground based levels, but they are very different in water ones. In general, people really overlook the addition of new characters in this game, probably because they don't dig much into the mechanics of the game.

Levels is indeed a hard one. For this I wouldn't even compare the games. Both DKCR and DKCTF have incredibly well designed levels and we should just appreciate both. Just to mention some levels, I really like:
1-K Swinger Flinger: You can make some crazy momentum jumps that make this level so much fun!
2-1 Windmill Hills: Music is cute and the level is pretty fun. A big jump in complexity from World 1 too.
2-4 Sawmill Thrill: They used this one as advertising and with reason. It's amazingly creative.
3-3 Frantic Fields: This one reminds me of DKC3 with a one-off noticeable gimmick introduced for one level. Nice atmosphere.
3-4 Scorch N' Torch: Similar to 3-3, introduces a fun gimmick for one level. The music is also god tier.
4-4 Irate Eight: Water levels are usually peaceful but this one forces you to go full speed! Simply awesome.
5-3 Fruity Factory: I love the idea of fruit parts making platforms. Level is also very challenging.
5-6 Frosty Fruits: Ice levels! I like the visuals here.
6-B Icicle Arsenal: This one is very crazy and fun.

I feel you're also underplaying the graphics. Art style is identical to DKCR but many levels have some very awesome backgrounds. You should try and look at the amount of different assets in the levels. A lot of work went into making each level unique and cohesive. Also, the lightning engine used in some levels is great. 2-B Rodent Ruckus and 4-3 Amiss Abyss are beautiful with the darker sections.

As a final comment on DKCTF I'd like to draw the comparison to Rayman Legends, which is actually a pretty similar game to TF. Many people praise Legends and even claim it's better than TF and I think I noticed why. Legends has many levels where it forces you to master the momentum mechanics of the game by putting you in speedy chases or in just super quick sections. Hence, everyone playing through the game will notice how well the game is designed for speedy runs and learn to appreciate that fact (Invasion levels also help a lot). On the other hand, TF has time trials hidden as an optional goal that doesn't matter at all to progress and not many levels force you to go really fast so most casual players will never notice how deep and well designed the game actually is. I guess the team built the game to be accesible so they strayed from making sections way too challenging (Legends gets away from this by having many many many checkpoints in each level).

Anyway, I really recommend TF and hope that people who play it give it a fair chance by checking the time trials, where the game really shines!

Anyone have a list of first party Nintendo games that have online co-op? Mario Kart, Smash, and.... nothing else right? Mario Party 10 won't either I think?

Not sure if prank, I hope not: Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Coming to 3ds WiiU and Xbox1!

There is also the above tweet. The game might be shown during the ND. If anybody got a pr, that might indicate it's not a joke.

It's a joke. Even if it's real they're making themselves look ridiculous by being silly about it with the removing references to God etc like it is the NES days.

I hope it's just a 50% joke: The game actually comes out but not with the stupid censorship.

amazon e-mailed me saying Zelda Wii U's new 'estimated release date' is Jan 4th 2017

surely not the real date but seeing the year 2017 makes me so sad. I really hope it is an early 2016 release.

2015 best wii u year.

Sarcasm detected? So if I'm not mistaken, we have absolutely nothing in terms of new games releasing between now and September except Splatoon on 5/29? If that keeps up, I'm sure some more games are being delayed to 2016...

2nd half of the year isn't happening. Nintendo once again doesn't know how to release things, and thus we'll likely get something silly like the following now.

June - August - ABSOLUTELY nothing

Sep - Dec - Mario Maker, Fatal Frame for Sep-Oct, Yoshi + Xeno for holidays. everything else delayed.

Either that, or NoA is idiotic for not releasing Yoshi in June like they're already doing in Europe. My guess is there's not enough for the fall (b/c of the unmentioned delays), and thus we're getting Yoshi in the "fall". The Wii U might actually have games now and instead they decide to release them all at once rather than spreading them out.

The start of the direct was great w/ Smash DLC, N64 & DS VC announced along with Fatal Frame being localized. However, we had Wii "VC" announced and got like 4 games? I'm assuming we'll get a huge drought again for no real reason.

Honestly to me new games >> meaty DLC = eShop games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> VC and I think that's the case with the vast majority of the audience. VC = filler, which means very little else is releasing in that timeframe imo. Happened last April too.

Nintendo's boxarts make me wanna buy all of their games. This year looks much better to me now.

Not only will we get Ness DLC, we will get a 200cc race in Mario Kart and even more Smash Bros characters.

Now that Mario Maker have confirmed online sharing of stages, that's a game I will buy. And Fatal Frame coming to our shores makes me extremely happy.

And if Fire Emblem comes this year, the year almost can't get any better.

The next 3 months in Europe are the best non-holiday 3 months for Wii U. Crossposting the highlights from the ND thread:

  • now - Super Mario 64
  • now - Donkey Kong 64

  • April 16th - Pandora's Tower
  • April 23rd - MK8 update and DLC (and 200cc !!!)
  • April 30th - Sin and Punishment
  • May 21st - Swords and Soldiers 2
  • 29th of May - Splatoon
  • 26th of June - Yoshi's Wolly World

Plus SSB DLCs. Plus tons of amiibo.

I'm in for SMTxFE and Fatal Frame. Aside from those two games, I was only getting Xenoblade Chronicles X and Splatoon, in any case.

Oh man, so within a week after finally buying the Wii U, I learn that my two most anticipated games, Zelda Wii U and SMTxFE, is either being delayed or turned into something I totally did not want. :\

I can deal with Zelda being pushed to 2016, so long as it doesn't receive the TP treatment. I don't think that'd actually happen though, so I'm not too concerned. Given that I have Mario 3D World, DKC: TP, Bayo 2, and co. and that I don't have a ton of gaming time as it is, waiting isn't difficult for me.

The second issue is the one that's hard to digest. Whatever they showed on Nintendo Direct didn't resemble the FE I know in any way, shape, or form. Massively disappointed by that. I still have a more traditional version coming to the 3DS, but still...was really looking forward to SMTxFE as some grimdark SRPG and it just took the complete opposite route... :(

Overall, a pleasantly solid Direct. My only concern is that there's currently no games announced for June, July or August on Wii U. Understandably, Nintendo usually skips July, but perhaps Nintendo is saving news on release dates for Devil's Third and Star Fox until E3. Hopefully, Xenoblade X's localization will be completed in time for release this year, but again, Nintendo probably is waiting until E3, so it has a better estimation of when they'll be able to release it.

Yoshi is June in Europe and Fall in NA, hmm I wonder if there will be a trade off that NA gets earlier then Europe

I'm honestly expecting Nintendo to schedule the release dates of the retail games terribly again... Sigh. For once it seems like they have games to schedule, and then it looks like they'll release them on top of each other, or a ton of stuff will get delayed into 2016. Yoshi in June for Europe is great. That or like July I'd think would work well for NA too. Did JP get a release date for Wooly World?

Well, you got Kirby earlier. So there's your "trade off".

Would have never expected this but the next 3 months seem to be packed with great games. Affordable Space Adventure, Kirby, Splatoon, Yoshi, N64/DS-VC Games and than there's E3.

For us European folk,

Kirby - 8th May
Splatoon - 29th May
Yoshi- 26th June
Mario Maker - September
Fatal Frame - winter?
Starfox - winter?
Xenoblade - winter?
Unannounced new game at e3 - winter?
Maybe Devil's Third? - winter again?

I'd say eight or nine games is pretty good going compared to the usual standard for Nintendo to see us out for the rest of the year.

You forgot the fire emblem/megami thing.

Hopefully Xenoblade X in Aug/Sept. Fatal Frame in october (Halloween?). Starfox will be their holiday game. Devil's Third and fire/megami between sep & dec :)

I don't think we get a big new unannounced game this year.

[Edit]: Fire Tensei has no release date in EU. So it will be a 2016 game.
