Man, I really miss GEARS

Gears 2 and 3 were infinitely more enjoyable and faster paced than Gears 1. Horde mode was fucking amazing and I loved how they mashed King of the Hill and Annex together in 3.

I love how Epic talked about their gamemodes. They always mentioned that it was the usual multiplayer stuff but with Gears twists and the twists were always awesome. Sudden death in a TDM made it so much more intense. I don't know if it was in the Art and Design book or not but it was a quote that stood out to me when they talked about their process.

What I miss most of all were the Server Lobbies in Gears 1 multiplayer. A great many conversations were had with friend and stranger alike in those lobbies...

The streamlined matchmaking process of the rest of the games was a step down as far as I'm concerned.

Those lobbies also used to be where my friends and I would chat before Party Chat was a thing.

"Maria, let me put you out of your misery with some dignity"

*Pulls out a BIGASS revolver that probably blew up her entire torso*

That whole scene was good humor.
Back when I first played that, I thought the entire context of the scene was Dom being disappointed that Maria was ugly.

Whole scene was totally bizarre to me because of that.

yup, that's where I built my friends list. then party-chat came along and nobody ever talked after that.

Yeah, a great trilogy for sure.

Some of the best marketing/commercials for games I have seen, superb graphics at their time, a really well done story with characters I cared about, and the MP was also amazing (1>3>2).

I never played Judgement, but apparently that's a good thing.

There needs to be a spiritual successor. Judgement killed any hope I had for a campaign.

Just give me something with a new setting but similar gameplay.

Really can't wait for the next gears. Gears 3 was my favorite online multiplayer game of last gen

Not to mention the colossal bitch offs. I don't know if it was just that Gears 2 and 3 were worse games, but man the original was something special. The fact party chat existed killed the way Xbox Live worked and so those days were long gone with the original. If I could wind back to the original Gears days and do it all over again I would, but that magic is gone. Despite its flaws, I wish party chat would just be abandoned so we could go back to the days of randoms talking.

Gears of War 1 and 2 had fantastic releases. I still remember playing them while it was getting bitter cold outside. I enjoyed the 3rd game, but you could tell the team was saying goodbye at Epic Games. I felt like I was pushed to the side of the road when Gears Judgment came out. What could they do to top all that? what could top the commercials? the overall theme of brotherhood? How many times can you listen to the cover of "Mad World" by Gary Jules? I've listened to that song for years now and it's great. I put in the original Gears last year and had a blast, but I was alone. I don't mind that, being a SP player, but I felt like I was tugging at my nostalgia strings. Thanks for the memories! I don't own an XB1, so it's really up to them, Black Tusk, if they do well. They sit in the shadows until then.

There are GEARS comics? I might use those to hold me over til E3. Any good?

There's a graphic novel (3 Books) you can pick up and single issues. I picked the first one up from Amazon for Kindle.

It's a Gears of War comic. It's nothing like playing the games, but like with other comics based off video games they tie you into the lore. I feel like I understand a lot more about MKX reading the comics for the last 2 or so months. There's also a nice Forward by Cliff Bleszinski within the graphic novel.

I wonder how the current-gen Gears is coming along? Hopefully Black Tusk is making good progress. :)

E3 seems too damn far. :(

Great games, Judgment is obviously the "weakest" but the campaigns and Overrun are still good.

Overrun was a pretty good idea since Beast Mode didn't really work out for them, at least not to the level of Horde Mode. Some of the changes were good but others were just completely foolish. It's easily the weakest entry in a series that historically improved at every new iteration.

I could never get into MP. I was no good. Kept getting destroyed by people rolling around with shotguns.

I despised the MP for a long time because of the same reason. I felt like I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with my shotty while everyone else was rolling and one shotting me. Super frustrating, but one day it just clicked. Once you get good, it was incredibly satisfying. I felt like a fucking wizard with some of the maneuvering I used to do, like I was playing an instrument with my 360 controller.

My friend would just stare at my hands when I played as I tickled those ivories.

I really do to. And I don't know what I'm going to do. I don't have an Xbox One and I don't really want one, but at the same time, I would really love to play Gears 4 if it turns out to be good.

There are also 2 books (or more?). I have them, but have yet to read them, so I don't know if they are any good.

Ditto. Loved the SP campaign though, replayed that over and over again in co-op. I hope Gears 4 lives up to the previous installments.

played Judgment finally last Werk and noticed how enormously I miss Gears. Played 2 nights till 5 am. It was awesome and nostalgic

My favorite Gears of War experience was playing online in the first Gears. The shotgun and sniper rifle were OP, but I still loved how intense the round system was and the executions were so brutalizing fun

I doubt we'll see a collection this year. I think we'll get a remaster of the first game in some format next year (10th anniversary) and GoW4 in 2017. Sorry, I just don't think 2016 is realistic considering they started working on it partially through 2013. (April, I think?) I just don't think 2 1/2 years is realistic. But of course when it's announced for 2017, Gaf will be full of 'GoW4 DELAYED' threads even though a 2016 release has always just been speculation.

I remember when I thought that 'brothers to the end' campaign for the third game was parody only then to discover it was the actual marketing for the game. Yikes. One day I'll play it. X1 collection would put me in the mood.

I was just recently playing Gears 1-3 and Judgement because I miss it too.

I hope Gears 4 gets back the epic scale that was Gears 2.

Played Gears 1 MP soooo much back in the day. Loved it and would absolutely play it again in a collection. Never got into the multiplayer in 2. Horde mode also wasn't my favorite but definitely kinda fun. Would like a collection to play through Gears 3 as well. Gimme a reason to buy an Xbox MS
