The series always has been popular. The LNs and manga were selling pretty well before the anime and it has like 2 manga spin-offs.

The anime just took it to a whole new level.

Don't know about the anime but my friend told me LN is really good. And he hates almost all of the generic cute girl LN stuff.

Just based on the 1st ep, but he basically ignores Hestia who's all over him, and he has serious self-esteem issues. Wolf-boy is also a jerk. The girls are nice though.
