Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker |OT| at Last

.

And it was my first SMT.
Let me put that into plain english- I went a slightly str build and kept my other stats decently balanced.

Thats literally signing my own funeral.
On that note, SMT is kind of obnoxious, because going into one blind I dont think zone would reasonably assume to do otherwise (because with the exception of luck, why would I completely ignore something!)
But whatever, I've played a half dozen now, so I guess I now don't even think about it?

But yeah, with DeSu1 having weird things like physical reflect as common things...the game screwed you over.
It's not like "pierce resist" and you can use a diff type- they basically ruined your entire build :/
Also some obnoxiously powerful bosses.

I wanted to like DeSu1, but it was simply too cruel for going in blind.

I ran a magic build and didn't have any problems with Beldr but that's likely because during that early part of the game magic builds are weird due to the conflicting requirements for rise and dance skills. I was alsi pretty meticulous about free battles for skill cracks which likely meant I was higher level and had better support demons.

The macca fight DLC actually changes the demon and level based on your own level

Buh bye free battles

Edit: or it might also depend on the day.

It's in the game's menu under communications I think, the icon on the bottom left. You access the DLCs in the mallbox under "Downloads"

How far in the game do you have to be to get it? I haven't even played the first one and not sure when I'll get the chance to play this (backlog'd), but I do want to get the DLC for free while it's up. I was surprised that it can't be downloaded from the game menu since I had to start a game first, but didn't get time to continue any further.

First time I've played ds2...glad I waited for this version, I'm enjoying it so far. I guess the dlc and such opens up after you get through some of the story. I was planning to just get started with this since Ive mainly been playing Etrian Mystery Dungeon, but I think I'll juggle both now. After the first tutorial battle you get the spot pass access. Not sure when dlc opens...

Where do I download the DLC for the game? I can't find it in the eshop. :p

I got access to them really early. Although I did not use them until much later

I first noticed it right before you recruit Joe for the first time. They don't become available until after that battle though.

They seriously break the game though (the Beginner Brawl is full of day 2 skill cracks and its cracking skills that makes a large chunk of the games difficulty).

Well, putting Strange Journey on the shelf again so I can dig into this. Can't help myself.

EDIT: Looks like there's already a software update for the game.

Do Spotpass demons unlock around the same time? Trying to decide if it's worth playing enough to unlock access to the free DLC and Spotpass stuff if I don't really intend to play through the whole game right now. (A-Train 3D is my new 3DS obsession, oh god.)

I think spotpass unlocked with fusion. It shouldn't take too long to get to that point.

Principate

Saint Titanfall
DS1 has Baldr.

Baldr's easy as hell, you just have to have some sort of ability to attack from range, beat him first time no issues, may be more difficult you didn't build that way but why wouldn't you on at least one of your characters.

My MC was all strength and he kicked all kinds of ass, it was pretty much insane how much ass he kicked, pierce on him and bumped him up to insane levels and there was little most monsters could do, phys reflect isn't half as common as your implying and could always be solved by having the other two monsters attack the monster in question (which is kind of the point), very rarely was there anything so nasty on bosses.

The only real road blocked I hit was Tower of bell, because that entire mission is designed to drain your mana like motherfucker, only after I realised to use the blood kill on some random demon had had to meticulous refill all of demons and characters mana when it was safe to do so could I actually complete the mission, which took a lot of time.

That last boss was something else. I was down to just my MC who would have died with one more attack and I managed to get the final blow with my weakest attack moments before he wiped me out. I'm not sure I would have even a tried a second time if I had lost that battle.

Yeah him and a few other boss destroyed me but I finally beat him yesterday and am moving on to shin megami tensei iv which conveniently was on sale. I hope the lesson I learned in Devil Survivor 1 help me in shin megami tensei iv

Spotpass unlocks super early, you can turn the passive on when you start a game and you can collect/activate after the first/tutorial battle.

DS1 indeed got wild in the endgame.
Naoya, Jezebel, Metatron

Absolutely brutal.

I was honestrly scared of having another
Metatron
fight or anything similar in difficulty. Thank God it never happened and I played on Apocalyptic.

Dude fuck
Metatron
! I had to change my whole line-up for that end boss.

Me too. I'm not getting close to DeSu1 for another 20 years because of that boss.

Really struggling.

Still Day 1 at what I'm guessing is a battle where I get another playable person. Without doing any free battles the enemies I'm seeing are way too strong for me.

Then I try a free battle and all it is is some hellish circle jerk of healing by enemies I can't get to and the 100% crit chance for one attack skill bursting me down before I even have a chance to react.

I'm playing on easy so I can enjoy the game and not be frustrated. I figured I'd hit a wall but it's the 3rd battle of the game and I'm already frustrated that enemies are level 6 with almost a full wall of skills and I'm level 4 with Agi.

Also this is not my first SMT game. I just don't feel like struggling at the start of the game.

you're allowed to run away from free battles using the start button while you're on the grid

why not focus on one enemy? smack it around and let the person you want to level up deal the final blow

Wait, is Watchful and Vigilant even useful on human characters? It seems like benched characters get exps no matter what. IIRC benched people will not gain any exp in Overclocked

Wow, this OT is kinda deserted.

I impulse bought the game yesterday, and I just had a few stray thoughts. I stopped on the first real battle after the tutorial fight.

  • First and foremost, everything feels really sharp in this game compared to Overclocked. The character portraits have improved, the battle models are more dynamic and above all else, the soundtrack audio is much higher quality. I loved OC's soundtrack, but it still felt like it was somewhere between NDS and 3DS still; RB's feels like a 3DS game. I had a tougher time getting into OC for this reason almost exclusively, just because while it was good it was a bit jarring.
  • On that note, I really love the soundtrack so far. There are some points where I just linger on a screen for a few seconds longer than I have to to get some of that ambiance.
  • Really digging the character designs, but then I really dug them in OC.
  • Story still kind of feels like it has one foot in Persona-land, but that's fine all things considered. I find the story as engaging as the last one for the short time I've played.
  • I honestly didn't realize it until people on here pointed it out, but man, the boob dimensions/placement are weird as hell in this game.

Really struggling.

I haven't gotten too far into this one, but that was Overclocked in a nutshell. Free battles are tough at first, but it's because the player isn't really used to the gameplay just yet. DeSu requires a bit more strategy than the other SMT games normally would. Of course, I'd always recommend going back and fusing some new demons like in any SMT, but you probably don't have much in the way of macca or demons to begin with. You just need to muscle through the free battles, but the good news is you'll probably only have to do one or two since your exp will scale down once you're at the level you should be at.

Actually, I know this is going to sound cheap, but if you really want to progress without too much more trouble, maybe you should try that Beginner's Brawl DLC. It's free and sounds like it might be helpful.

I didn't think the boob angles would bother me as much as they do. It's just so blatantly impossible that I'm not sure if my intelligence is being insulted lol.

Probably because most of gaf played the original on an R4 and don't want to spend $50 to play the new stuff

I played the original and I don't like the game enough or think the new additions are worth me double dipping. Same with Overclocked.

But I like the casual piracy accusation, thanks.

SMT mainline in general isn't SUPER popular, so it's no surprise that a spinoff doesn't get a lot of GAF attention (aside from Persona of course).

This is a title for a small audience, and I assume Atlus knows this (hence the Tax).

Same here. I'm level 7 and the free battle is too much because the demons heal before I can finish off the leader. The free dlc battle has level 10s and there are too many trash mobs for me to kill those before my party dies off. Do your demons or party members auto heal other party members? Yes I have not played any other smt games all the way through before. :p

I feel the tax drove away alot of maybe potential sales too. I know some complain just to complain and were probably not gonna get it anyway, but there are probably a decent amount of lost sales as well due to the extra cost of the game. Honestly, myself I see it as worth it cause I played the first game and know that these games are no joke when it comes to length and content for the money, but value propositions are different for everyone.

Plus I haven't even started playing yet even though I bought right when the game launched, I'm been stuck playing Dragon Quest lol.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
A bit OT, but I jumped into Devil Survivor 1 which has been on my backlog for ages. Is it just me, or is the Extra Turn aspect sort of random. I have noticed plenty of times where both my party and enemies seem to get it without doing a crit or weakness hit. Also battles start with some enemies or my own party having it already available for whatever reason. Feel like I am missing some crucial aspect not explained. Usually it occurs as described taking advantage of press-turns, but even then, there are times when I hit an enemy weakness with magic and I don't get the extra turn. Just not sure what is going on here.

Also, the ranking system is weird. Get attacked by a weakened enemy and slaughter them with normal attacks only to have negative rewards(-5%!) despite not being touched, because I conserved my magic? Just goofy.

Really neat game though so far.

read the extra turns mail

it says something like
"you may earn/lose an extra turn if you blah blah blah"

extra turns are not guaranteed. may is the key word so yeah, random

agility factors into having an extra turn from the start and earing them

I can only partially answer the Extra Turn question. When you initiate attacks more often than not, you will get an Extra Turn. If an enemy were to initiate they will have the Turn.

Understood. I must have skimmed the email and not read close enough. Just accustomed to other SMT games where bonus turns are more fixed.
