Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

To people saying "If it doesn't look like the concept art I'll be pissed" please look up what concept art is.

As for 2.5D or 2D look. 2D sprites are expensive you know. 2.5D can look as well if the art direction isn't shit.
This kickstarter would probably be a good chunk higher for the minimum if it was 2D.

Yes I think Mighty No. 9 fucked up their art direction when they went with that 2.5D direction.

If they could do something like Guilty Gear Xrd for this it would be fucking amazing.
I like dreaming to but, let's not go overboard now :p.

I've never done kickstarter before, so I'd be billed in 32 days (providing it meets the $500k, which it will) or when it just hits $500k?

I'm undecided on the physical copy.

you're billed when the campaign ends, not when the goal is met.

$28 just to get the game is a little high considering there's basically zero information on what it'll actually look or play like.

Keep it sprite based Inti. Keep it Sprite based.

Edit: It's gonna be 3D? Well then. Immitate Abyss Odyssey as much as you can Inti.

I have no issue if it's 2.5D and looks similar to:

A thousand nopes.

That looks awful and totally not-castlevania.

Why are some people against 2.5D? Dracula X Chronicles was great, IMO.

I'll happily buy a physical copy when the time comes. Hoping there's some CGI for the opening and ending but I highly doubt there'll be enough money for that.

I usually take the time to read/watch the pitch first and assess how much they creator want's for what's in return and when it would be delivered. Not this time as I fumbled to get my login details correct on the third try.

Regards to Unity vs UE4, seeing as quite a few Unity games I've played have some framepacing issues which really, really do sour games in this vain, UE4 is a much better choice.
Exactly. I gained a lot of confidence i nthis when I read that they are going with UE4.

We want this!!
Please speak for yourself only.

Lets not forget that Viewtiful Joe, Klonoa 2, Guilty Gear Xrd and other games i'm sure i'm forgetting are 2.5 and still look and play great.

I will buy and play it regardless, but I really hope the concept art is nothing like how the game actually looks. I don't care if it doesn't end up being retro sprite based, but everything about the concept gameplay screens is horribly ugly to me.

P.S. Shadow Complex as 2.5D and great.

Hopefully she is an actual character instead of an anime shitty trope.

They aren't mutually exclusive since pretty much any character, regardless of how well they are written, are be assigned to a particular set of tropes (tropes aren't inherently bad). I have no idea why somebody would want that trope applied specifically to this character though LOL

The "backer achievements" section would make f2p mobile developers blush.

Stretch goals are only the beginning. Unlock enough backer achievements by submitting fanart, making cool things, and joining us on social media, and you’ll unlock Backer Inventory items that will change the campaign and trigger exclusive rewards.

Since they mentioned something like Guilty Gear as something that inspires them for 2.5D graphics, I have no issue if they can use whatever technique arcsys did. That game looks create and amazingly they were all 3d models. And since Inticreate has a great track record behind their sidescrollers I think this might be a strong project to back gameplay-wise.

When it ends if it hits the 500k goal. You can leave your pledge can change it at the last second.

They do mention that they want to achieve art that honours the classic aesthetic with 2.5D and that they are developing custom shaders. They mention Guilty Gear as a good example, so hopefully we'll get something as great as that in terms of faking the original style.

Soo the $60 and $100 physical versions only come with a single Steam key? Like, we'd have to wait for it to arrive before we can download it?

Ah ok, thanks, I have to think what I'd want then for physical and I want my name in the credits. Lol

I honestly think the campaign is a bit misleading, with the concept art being featured very prominently and the word 2.5D only mentioned at the very bottom of the page in the FAQ.

The character designs are fantastic but the gameplay art style is a but too cartoony if you know what I mean. Nevertheless I shall support IGA.

Because it's 2.5D, how the art is visualised via the 3D models is way, way, way more important than the art character designer.

I love Ayami Kojima, but aside from portraits, it's not like Symphony of the Night's art allowed us to see Vanillaware quality sprites in full-glory.

Ignore those people, they're silly. To them "anime" means "thing I don't like". They, for some reason, like to pretend Kojima's art isn't also "anime" as well or something.
Look at the costumes. It looks like the same overdesigned crap you see in most JRPGs. If you want to make it look gothic, then at least make it more subdued.

I know it will be totally funded. I'm gunning for the $150 pledge, but I have to think about it. I hope it looks something like GG Xrd's graphic since they mentioned it.

Yeah I'm sure a small team on a small budget can probably do that

The concept art looks really similar to the Valdis Story aesthetic, which I'm not sure I like, but the art is 2D and the game is going to be 2.5D so I'm probably worried over nothing.

Beautiful detailed 2d sprite work!!

Is ok if is low res!!

I wanted so bad to back this, but now I can't.

The game would take 3-4 years to make at a much higher cost. You can't possibly expect Iga to round up some old guard pixel animation wizards and have the dev cycle required for that for only $1 Million.

First of all, Strider looks great. Second of all, Guilty Gear Xrd.

Inticreates won't be able to create something similar to GGXrd, look at MN9.

Also, opinions and all, but strider is incredibly ugly looking game to me. And certainly I don't look at it and think, "damn I want my spiritual igavania succesor to look like it"
