Kotaku: AC Syndicate will feature both male/female protags (brother & sister)

Almost a year after publisher Ubisoft made headlines for not including female protagonists in Assassin’s Creed Unity, today we’ve got news that there will be a playable woman assassin in the next entry of Ubisoft’s mega-series, according to two people familiar with the game.

This fall’s Assassin’s Creed, which will be officially announced tomorrow as Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, will give players access to two main characters: Jacob and Evie (pictured above in concept art leaked to Kotaku). They’re brother and sister, said a source, and they’ll be heavily involved in the criminal underworld of Victorian London, where the game is set. (We hear it’ll be out this fall for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.)
From what I’ve heard, Jacob will still likely qualify as the game’s main character. The balance in story missions may favor the brother about 75% to 25%, according to a person familiar with Syndicate, who spoke under condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the game. Syndicate will not have any multiplayer modes, according to that source, but you’ll be able to swap between Jacob and Evie while exploring the world between missions.

Great news.

According to the article there isn't any multiplayer.

Hopefully this will prevent something like the fiasco that happened last year with people misunderstanding how the coop worked.

Jason said his sources says the game you will mostly play as the male during missions(75% of the time). However you can switch in between the male and female protagonist when you are not doing a mission and just exploring

Genuinely makes me interested in a new Assassin's Creed. The series is stale and even just having multiple protagonists is enough to differentiate it from *yet another Assassin's Creed game.*

Wanted Victorian London AC to have a female protag, at least they give us that. Im already happy
Please, please, please, let the main characters be friends with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and you trying to discover who is jack the ripper.

If they always planned this I support it. If this was shoehorned in following the Unity debacle, I'm not for it. Follow your artistic vision people, not someone else's.

give players what they want and they can still fall back on marketing the shit out of jacob if they still fear a female protag will hinder sales.

Hmm, interesting. Wonder what direction the off mission open world Ubi-jank will be like? As much grief III and Unity got I really didn't mind the Homestead and Paris Stories missions, some were better than the main content.

I highly doubt adding a second protagonist is considered shoehorning. And anyway, who cares if this added for the Unity debacle? How would this negatively impact the game?

People called Romanes they go the house?
Insert female modelling/animation joke here.

Pretty cool of them to have the option available, though I wonder if it'll be an either/or or 'both' scenarios, in which the other is an NPC or whatnot.

Sounds cool. I wonder if you can play every mission with either of them or if you have to switch back and forth for story reasons.

Edit: missed the part about the 75/25 split. Still sounds like a step in the right direction, and I encourage all experimentation in the series.

One wonders - is this a demonstrable result of consumer backlash? It seems a neat refutation of the old "vote with your wallet" line if so.

Im sure this is totally unrelated to recent comments expressed by their audience, because then that would mean that Ubi has perverted their true unadultered work of art to listen to them tumblr outrage culture people!!!!

I will never cease to be amazed with how fast you are Shinobi.

So no multiplayer at all? I hope the game is filled with single player content, then. Actual side content too, not just collectables/chests/press X to side content.

No multiplayer sounds like a pretty big deal... in terms of it being removed from their flagship annual franchise.

Was multiplayer in these games a total lost cause? No quality DLC packs? Microtransaction schemes? etc?

It feels like a significant portion of the business to give up on... but it may be very good for the game overall.

Edit: Also, are they still doing the dual-storyline thing?

Sounds more like a Geralt/Ciri thing. The article doesn't even claim the female character is a protagonist, just that she is playable 25% of the time.

So, you still have to play as the male character throughout the vast majority of the actual gameplay missions. Switch to the female only inbetween missions? I...guess this is okay but its still pretty shitty.

It says 75% 25% split in the OP. I am putting money on the male dying and the sister takes up his wrist blade.

I REALLY HOPE THEY DROP THE ANIMUS RUBBISH!

The no MP is what really pleases, to me it was always shit. All time and effort on the story is good for me!

A shame Crossing Eden got banned recently. Now he can't tell us how much more time and effort would be put into this one and how amazing it would be
