When they first showed off the game, I remember people saying it would be downgraded some by release like it was no bid deal. Thats why I am shocked this thread is so large. I just figured it was a ho-hum "told you so" moment (and little else) that everyone was expecting.
I think a lot of the shock comes from the fact that CDPR were widely "trusted" as developers in the sense that they were very pro-consumer and always honest.

But all official trailers still featured nondowngraded version, no ?

And yeah looking at that thread and those screenshots, Witcher has nothing on DS2 when it comes to downgrading.

The reason the Dark Souls 2 downgrade was such a huge clusterfuck because people actually got to play the vertical slice with the original lighting still in place AND uploaded that footage to their youtube pages. Nobody got to play Sword of Destiny era Witcher 3.

I can't recall if the Steam screenshots and trailers still showed the lighting right up to release. That would probably require some thread digging. But yeah, people were rightfully outraged, especially since the devs made a big deal out of how impressive the new lighting system was.

I remember some people saying its going to be the best looking game ever but also including the "and it's open world!".

No, Dark Souls 2 was way way worse.
This is very mild as far as downgrades are concerned.
And unlike From, CDP is not bullshiting and hasn't been bullshitting for a year at least. From/Namco bullshited until release.

Weird how they stated several times that there was no downgrade to speak of. How is that not bullshit?

they just sold a million copies of a game that's not even out, pretty sure there's no love lost.

Does anybody else think that the animations have also been downgraded? I mean looking at the E3 2013 and VGX trailer. The animation in the combat seemed much more smooth.

I haven't compared them closely, but custom-animated trailers vs. playable games tends to do that. So you're probably right.

I remember the user who posted in a Witcher thread that people should not see CD Projekt as "gods" or whatever and they do shitty things too.

The user got Bish verified, but people were still very skeptic.

Edit: Found it:

Just checking to see how completely ignored this was...

Yup, pretty damn ignored.

Yes. The original footage shows him walking around with a swagger, looking all around, body weight shifting as he was taking in the sites. The newer footage has him straight backed and necked in a light military jog.

Well they disagree about downgrade, which you may consider bullshit, but they are also releasing hours of footage for a year now of how the game really looks. Which is quite a difference to what Namco and From were doing.

NBA 2k15 doesn't look like that if anything the graphics got a little worse in some cases.

Are you kidding? It looks exactly like it on my pc.

Shhhh. Don't tell them this.

They'd rather bitch about performance (or lack thereof) in the DF thread and state that the devs are "lazy" and that they should have been able to get more out of consoles.

The devs are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Uh? Have you followed the thread? Most people are saying it looks damn good on consoles.

From what I've seen of the PC version, I'd say Dragon Age Inquisition looks at least as good graphically.
The game doesn't look bad, but it's definitely not what we were shown before.

Namco and From largely shifted the marketing material to the release version starting in January 2015. The confusion comes from Sony, who were still releasing footage from the vertical slice well into February.

So, have we actually seen the super-secret ultra settings yet? I mean, they were making it seem like there would be a noticeable difference compared to what had been shown before.

Not what I was expecting or hoping for, but I'll take it.

But man, is that pop-in/pop-up an eyesore. Drove me nuts in skyrim to see entire stands of trees or terrain transition from the low res/poly lod suddenly. In one of those vids, it was like watching popcorn popping all over. Here's hoping we have (or find) a way to extend those distances.

UnrealEck...whyyyyyyyy

There was a time when I said that there's no way DAI could come close to TW3 graphically. But now... I can't really look at TW3 and see anything that stands out as being all that impressive.

DAI is still hindered quite a lot by Frostbite though. Materials tend to look like plastic. Character models are pretty bad. Speculars are exaggerated. But at least DAI wins in the foliage department.

Battlefront doesn't have that problem. It's the art assets, not the engine.

How do we know that's actually Ultra though? Some preview builds of games have had settings disabled even though you can actually select them and hit 'apply', it doesn't actually apply the real Ultra preset.
Did these guys compare the setting below Ultra to the Ultra setting?

Wow. DA: I looked good but nowhere near what Ive seen of TW3.

I take it back after seeing DAI again. But I'd say it does look comparable, with W3 maybe having an edge.

Apparently they were told by developers that game was on Ultra settings, minus HairWorks on most of videos. There is like 2 videos with HW on. Sure it's not final build of the game and X weeks old at that point, but has it really stopped this thread?

All footage in this thread, minus early copy PS4 screenshots, is from unfinished builds that are maybe months old.

I've only seen one video of the apparent Ultra preset and it was a guy sitting in one of those bucket racing seats and he had a beard. I can only recall it looking like he was at home playing the game, so I figured he had the game on his own machine to play and had set the graphics himself.
But if there's others that were told it was on Ultra, I guess that's different. I'd have to see the other footage then. I was only aware of that one video mentioned above as using Ultra presets.

I had a look for that video but it seems I can't find it. Maybe I'm just mistaken. Could have sworn it was a guy playing W3 though.

That whole OP in youtuber video thread every video linked in that showing gameplay supposedly is on Ultra settings.

To Witcher's credit, the way the trees and foliage reacts to wind is pretty fantastic.

In stills the foliage looks much better in DAI, but taking the wind into account I whink Witcher 3 takes the cake.

I also feel as if the videos we've seen aren't really with all of the Ultra settings enabled. I refuse to believe that what we're seeing is actually Ultra minus hair works. I'm in denial.

Same, I just don't want to believe CDPR of all devs is doin the PC version like this :/

It'll be a kick in the fucking teeth if GTA V PC ends up being the superior game visually, a game that started on last gen, and from a dev that's had a track record of waving a middle finger at PC and doing janky ports since last gen (Max Payne 3 excluded). I know, different world building priorities and what not, was just really hoping W3 was going to be a powerhouse on PC in the looks department.

You and a bunch of us.

Shit Nvidia won't be happy either, as it looked like all of the Nvidia exclusive effects they were pimping have been stripped.

Agreed. Here's the thing. I don't think anything i've seen from W3 looks "ugly" or "not good". Basically it just looks good, not mind blowing, not amazing in my opinion, just pretty good. None of the screens or videos have shocked me the way that even some PS4 games have (infamous). This is all just my opinion and I'm speaking PURELY on visuals and I understand that W3 has a lot more going on than a game like infamous.

To the comment above about Nvidia. I would be extremely pissed if I were them. If the new gen of consoles is going to continue to hold back PC graphics, people have less incentive to buy that shiny new card. I planned to get a new card for W3 and now after seeing the latest media I am definitely holding off.

Game used to look like a technical marvel in the early screens, like a fairy tale, like something from my dreams. Now it looks like a good-looking video game.

I'm still very excited for it. It's just that I didn't expect CDPR to use bait and switch scum tactics in their footage. I mean, I expect it from Ubisoft, but not these guys.

The problem is that CDPR spoke out saying there won't be downgrades and in fact may be an upgrade. Now there's a number of downgraded elements.

They also said there weren't going to be anymore delays, for sure.

Their reliability has been pretty low, even if for some reason their reputation stays high.

In have been under a rock regarding the Witcher 3 release , do not want to be affected by before / after videos and downgradation gate , just want to know if the game looks better than Bloodborne and if it has a graphical level as The Order.

For me something between those games will be fine.

Well it's in 1080p and it's not a coridor walker/shooting gallery set piece game, so no it's impossible for it to have graphics of the same level as The Order.

It does more stuff than BB, whether BB's aesthetic makes up for it is your call.

Bloodborne IMO is pretty awful graphically but gets by on art style. W3 should look better for sure.

However I wouldn't expect the leven of the order considering it's an open world game where the order is fairly linear and corridor style.

I think it will be the best looking open world game ever.

Yep. They've tried to put a nice spin on it, but they also aren't denying that they changed the lighting system. We've known for a long time it doesn't used anything advanced like global illumination though, so maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise that all we saw previously were advanced lighting techniques at specifically selected times of day, and what we're ending up with is a cheaper lighting system for performance, with assets that don't always perfectly match up with the time of day:

Wow, why isn't this in the op? CDPR seems pretty honest here.
