Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker |OT| at Last

waiting on my next gamefly coupon to buy this one at $30

bought the original on launch and still haven't played it

I own Overclock and original DeSu 2 too. I'm even bothered to import the latter from Play-Asia with free shipping and have to wait for 3 weeks. I like to buy Record Breaker but...

I haven't played both game yet

I just finished up with the Triangulum arc, and thought it was really good. It took me around 14 hours to finish, but I did play on Blessed and used a few NG+ bonuses so those probably helped speed it up. The story was more much more interesting than that of the Septentrione arc (awfully predictable at times though), and a lot of the Fate events were pretty funny. I'm definitely happy with my purchase.
That arc alone or the entire NG+ run? Or do I misunderstand how the extra content works?

It was 14 hours just for the post-game story. After you clear the original DS2 content, you can save your clear data and, if you want, start the new arc as a NG+. The main game took me around 30 hours to complete, but that was also on the easier difficulty, in addition to being my second time playing through it.

Interesting, thanks for the info. IIRC, DeSu2 originally had three endings. It sounds like, unlike Overclocked, the endings aren't attached to the postgame content though, is that right? Just jump into whatever arc you want after clearing the game?

Right, the Triangulum arc doesn't work like the 8th Days from DSO. You can start the new arc at any time, even having not completed the main story. As a result though, your choices from the main game don't actually impact it, and it follows a hypothetical ending that isn't available in DS2 proper- it's more of a combination of two of the endings, so it won't match up perfectly with anybody's original endings (although it comes pretty close to some). It's a very strange way of doing things.

I'm under the impression that this is to avoid making any of the three endings in the original game canon. Even though it bears great similarlity to one of them.

Yeah:
The reason behind this is due to how Devil Survivor: Overclocked required players to play through the game five different times in order to unlock all of the additional content. We didn't want to make players go through all of that again. Since your ending in Devil Survivor 2 is your experience, we didn't want to make any ending "canon" or "non-canon."

WTF, you are on GAF man, people actually buy games here
and then dont play them

The way some of us buy games here, we probably make up for those who only pirate games :p /Stare at my impossible-to-finish-in-my-lifetime digital backlog on Steam and PSN.

Been having fun with the game. Forgot which ending I had in the original. Feel like playing on Blessed, just to get through more storylines.

God bless all my old friends/And god bless me too, why pretend?
What's the estimate like on the new game content after the first story? Is it split up into days as well? Very excited to play it but am still here on day 5 of my replay of the original. Curiosity is killing me.

Hmm, that's some positive reactions.

I already played the original release, so I'm not sure if I want to get this one. I like Overclocked better as well.

It is still split up into days-
essentially four full days, although there are a additionally few short days that don't have much happen and end quickly if I'm remembering correctly
. I would guess that most people will finish the new arc in around 15-20 hours.

Not gonna read that spoiler till I'm done, but thanks! 15-20 hours with the day system still in sounds beautiful.

I'm guessing this is worth picking up? Loved the first one, though I haven't finished the Overclocked version yet though.

Magic>Strength was in the first game, due to the lack of good physical skills. DS2 rebalanced it to a point where strength is almost better than magic.

Yeah, I'm on day 6 and I think Str is better on the basis more enemies I've found have resistance to specific elements and none to str, especially bosses (and the ones that did I could actually hit through the resistance lol)

There's really no garbage stat. Everything has it's usefulness.

Well
Stat dumping into Vit and none into str/mag would be a terrible idea.

The macca DLC is completely useless, I'm getting more experience than macca from it. I'm barely even getting 1k from it. False Advertising!

it sucks at the beginning since you have no way of getting good macca bonuses. you make like 50k per run near endgame

It might be doable on a second run since the skills that used to scale off current HP for damage scale of Vit primarily (and Str second) in 2/Break Record. Can't see it working well on a first run though.

Delta Battle is so effing hard. They give you NO breaks!

Tons of miasma, a turn limit, party-wide boss attack, regenerating boss, teleporting boss...Christ

Io & Hinako share the same VA correct?

Absolutely cannot stand Io's voice. Its fake. Its annoying. It drags on. Its unnatural. Why can't Io just keep the pitch of her unnatural voice down? The portrait of her face makes it more unbearable.

Yeah, it can get pretty distracting at times. A few hours in I actually stopped for a minute to think about whether anyone has ever had that tone and concluded "No one talks like this, please stop"

No, I'm pretty sure Hinako is Wendee Lee and Io is Lauren Landa. Compare Hinako to Persona Q Fuuka and Io to Leia in tales of xillia 2

I do think Ronaldo and Male Tico shares the same VA. They both sound like Matt Mercer

I kinda hoped Amanda Winn Lee to voice Hinako, probably because they share the same voice actress combo with Yukiko in both languages.

That said, Atlus games do have lots of overlaps of VAs in that matter

Oh and, since I love IDing voices, here is what I have by my ears.

Yamato- Kaiji Tang (I think this is confirmed)
Io- Lauren Landa
Hinako- Wendee Lee
Otome - Mela Lee
Jungo - Todd Haberkorn
Joe - Yuri Lowenthal
Airi - Cassandra Morris
Ronaldo/Male Tico - Matt Mercer
Female Tico - Eden Ridgel

The one that I have absolute zero clue with is Fumi.

I forgot my second favorite protag died super early in the anime, hope he lasts longer or wont die here.

Im only 30 minutes in, named my protag Hibiki Kuze cause...well love that name, and I love his sleezy looking smile at times.

Daichi's voice will take awhile to grow on me, , his JPN voice made him sound way more needy.

In Sept:
9 of the 14 characters (including protag) can die in theory, 3 of those can only die in the endgame, the remaining 6 are paired (so only 1 of each pair can die) but the deaths are distributed at about 1 a day, so depending on who your favorite is they might bite it as early as Day 2. It's always possible to save everyone except 2 characters on most routes and except 1 on the "golden ending" route but on a first run you basically need a walkthrough to do it. Since unlike DeSu / Overclocked there's absolutely no slack(you can't even do one of the optional events that consume time).

I did it on my first run with no guide. I didn't find it particularly hard. Seemed pretty straightforward on what to do.

Endgame spoilers

Well, except for Yamato, who I couldn't convince him( 0 Fate meter lol) to join in the fight against Polaris.(Daichi Ending) I assume he survives though.

I assumed he died but it doesn't make much difference unless you do Liberator since Restorer (without Triumphant) is a great big reset button.

I'll be completely honest and say that except for the 3 endgame ones, I actually had no idea that any of the characters could actually die until I went online. Which goes to show how easy it is to save them

Has Atlus gone into any specifics about the script changes? I was reading impressions from the Japanese version of the game, and apparently the localized version completely threw things out altogether, like certain characters having nicknames for each other or Joe and Hinako being supposed to have accents (which actually does come up in the story).

Yeah, I'm not keen on how breathy and exasperated Io's voice is, either. It makes her sound like she doesn't know how to end her sentences. Weirdly enough, though, apparently Japanese players thought Io's Japanese voicework was pretty amateurish, too.

Here's what I put together on my end:
Daichi - Ben Diskin
Io - Lauren Landa
Joe - Yuri Lowenthal
Makoto - Meghan Hollingshead
Keita - Brian Beacock
Airi - Cassandra Morris
Jungo - Todd Haberkorn
Hinako - Wendee Lee
Fumi - Amanda Celine Miller
Yamato - Kaiji Tang [confirmed on Twitter]
Miyako - Kira Buckland [confirmed on Twitter]
Male Tico - Matthew Mercer
Female Tico - Eden Riegel

Extras who don't voice main characters - Kyle Hebert, Cindy Robinson, Christopher Corey Smith, and two other dudes I don't recognize (NPC in brown coat and the rockabilly wannabe)

Voice Director - Patrick Seitz [confirmed on Twitter]

Have no clue about Otome (know of Mela Lee, but never heard anything with her in it) or (mid-game spoilers?)
The Anguished One
, though. Ronaldo sounds like Cam Clarke, who has a habit of flitting in and out of accepting game roles, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah, its the getting everyone to Fate 4 , for the Golden Ending, that's a bitch, the in story deaths are pretty trivial (you don't even get a mechanical advantage from letting them die since you get forced into an event that takes just as long to acknowledge you screwed up). There might be one exception though with
Io since you have to get her Fate to a certain level, if you kept her pair alive as well as suck up one event. But really you should get everyone to Fate 2 for Joint Skill Cracks anyway so its not really a big deal.

I feel like I'm enjoying my time with this game more than Overclocked. I think it's probably because I'm playing on Blessed and I'm able to enjoy the story for what it is; on the other hand, it's not an SMT game without some tears. I'm possibly having too easy a time. I think I might ramp up the difficulty going forward.

Hmm am I going to be punished for making my MC a magic nuke? Because that's what he is right now.

Generally not. A couple of the bonus bosses are slightly easier to deal with, with a physical MC but Mag/Agi is still more than sufficuent for pretty much anything in the game.

I want this, but I have Overclocked sitting on my collection, unopened. Lol.

Oh yeah, well I have the original first game sealed, Overclocked (which i played for about 10 hours), the original sequel sealed, and yet I STILL want to buy this one because I have problems...

It's been a while since I played Overclocked, but I don't remember the sprites looking so good in 3D. Sprites like Ogre look really great up top.

It's the little things...

Fusion pack 2 is live, with:

Level 69 Herald Lucifer Frost
Level 37 Divine Dominion
Level 14 Touki Dokkaebi
Level 17 Genma Roitschaggata
Level 54 Wilder Catoblepas
Level 87 Kishin Okuninushi

If it follows the same pattern as Japan, which it seems to be doing, then the next packs should be:

Wave 3:
Level 74 Tyrant Seth
Level 69 Dragon Fafnir
Level 37 Tyrant Lucifuge
Level 73 Megami Black Maria
Level 83 Touki Ongyo-Ki
Level 72 Beast Cabracan

Wave 4:
Skills

Wave 5:
Fiend - Mother Harlot - Level 79
Avian - Rukh - Level 49
Femme - Jahi - Level 70
Jaki - Macabre - Level 75
Divine - Sraosha - Level 67
Snake - Yurlungur - Level 76

Although that's not accounting for repeats, some of the names might vary as well.
