Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

My friend is getting one of these and I was advising him on stuff but then I realised compatibility is different in Europe where he is.

Is the Dangan Ronpa series patched to work there yet? If not, I assume importing it from the US would make it work right?

Also P4G works fine in europe right?

Sadly, not even PSN keeps up with what is truly compatible. This link, from earlier in the thread, is probably the most reliable source as you'll find:

http://thevitalounge.net/forum/threads/the-playstation-tv-compatible-games-topic.1402/

The guy who runs the Vita lounge is very proactive in finding out what works and what doesn't.

P4G EU and U.S. both work. Same for Danganronpa 2.

Danganronpa 1 EU version doesn't work, but the American physical import will.

Put about 25 hours into Conception II but I'm going to drop it; already watched all the different endings for each girl so I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. My problem with the game is that it's

1. Extremely repetitive

2. Plagued by annoying difficulty spikes

Today while crawling through a dungeon avoiding monsters because I didn't want to fight the same handful of generic monsters for the up-teenth time, I hit a wall and asked myself "why the hell are you still playing this?" I wasn't having any fun with the video game mechanics and was only interested in the social interactions between characters, although even this was starting to wear thin because the game is so dialogue heavy. I forced myself to press on and came across some of the most egregious bullshit I've encountered which made me straight shut off my PSTV and leave the house: back to back boss fights with no health regen on the 4th frickin' dungeon (sloth lab). I barely beat the first dude, basically spamming magic, or whatever this game calls them, attacks but when the game decided to make me fight another asshole I lost because my health and magic were obviously depleted. Now, I'm sure that if I grind a few levels I can clear the dungeon but the grind is so damn boring that I have decided to just drop the game out of sheer annoyance.

Downloading Xenogears as I type which I'm sure will be a much better experience even if I can't maintain a harem.

Slug 3 looks pretty nice on the Vita TV.

Although Alpha 3 looks off, Is there a way to disable the smoothing effect, as I am sure that it causing the issue (like a colour bleeding effect)?

i think the only way is to reset video output and do not resize it to fill your TV screen. Then you're getting minimal upscaling on the Vita output.

But it's never going to be perfect.

Quick question: All the homebrew stuff people are running on standard PS Vitas through the PSP mode, is that possible on PS TV?

I'm hoping someone can answer my question in here.

Which HDMI splitter do you guys use to stream your PSTV?

The only thing I can find via Googling is that some splitters don't get rid of the HDCP so I just want to make sure I order one that I know will work.

Thanks.

Barely used my PSTV since I picked it up but I think I'll start using it more regularly. Persona 2 IS looks fantastic on my monitor. Really impressed with the IQ.

I'll add that I use the same splitter as well, and have been streaming Tales of Hearts R for the last week without any issues. It also works with PS3.

Either this was a recent update or I missed it this whole time because my Vita and PS TV can't share a network at university, but you can actually stream media files (pictures, video, etc) to a PS TV from a Vita on the same network. Mind blown. I thought Sony didn't design the PS TV with any sort of Vita interaction at all.

That's all it's supposed to be, but some people have said it has blocked a few games. I wonder if any games have been added to the whitelist?

I've been told that Gurumin (PSP) has been whitelisted for PS TV. I'll verify later on if nobody else tries it first.

Kudos to Mastiff for getting it whitelisted just two weeks after I brought the incompatibility to their attention. :)

Wait, if my PS4 is just one room away, according to Sony's site the best remote play experience is actually to use the PS4 itself as the direct wireless access point. Does no one do this? Sounds like telling PSTV to directly connect to PS4 as its own network is the best idea.

Also, there's no way to get optical audio, right?

Note that if you had it downloaded prior to the whitelisting, you'll have to redownload it to get it to work.

Curious as well as to what the best wireless connection is. Also does it come with an hdmi cable?

I'm trying to spread this around and also get more feedback on it, but after recently acquiring a PSTV and PSVita, I've noticed the former does a seemingly poor job of displaying
PS1 and possibly PSP games as well.

My suspicion is that bilinear filtering is enabled by default, and that's what's causing the issue - significant blurring compared to the output of PS1 via PS3 and PSP video out.

This would be supported by the fact that my PSVita has filtering enabled by default when I tested out some PS1 titles last night - and it made them look blurry.

I have to do more PSP testing to confirm if the same issue persists there, but on first glance, the games looked worse on the PSTV than other platforms. Vita games looked good, for the record.

If this is all for the reasons I suspect, then I think we need to raise our voices and get Sony to restore the relevant missing PS1/PSP game setting functionality back into the PSTV firmware that was removed as compared to the PSVita.

Filtering should be an *option* or just disabled. Scaling mode choices would be nice. Etc.

As it stands, these games look bad and they needn't be.

FYI what bilinear filtering does and why you shouldn't be using it if you want the correct look and appreciate the original art: http://blog.kertgartner.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Filtering.png

lastly another link of a PSTV compat list that is pretty up to date: http://vitareviews.net/playstation-tv-compatible-games-north-america/#more-1885

Do you guys think this thing is ever going to get a Netflix or Amazon Prime app? I'm seriously bummed that we still don't have either...

I'd like to believe Netflix could come at some point. After all, Hulu was absent for a while, but eventually appeared earlier this year. I hope they can make Netflix compatible soon, too.

Amazon Instant Video is going to be tougher, considering even the regular PS Vita doesn't have it yet. Personally, I'd love to see it, but the likelihood is low.

If that compatibility whitelist hack ever gets released, it might be compatible. It depends on how dependent the game is on both touchpads and other Vita gimmicks.

Comes in the mail tomorrow via amazon prime. Really debating if its worth opening up and keeping or if I should just not even bother to be honest. Id be strictly using it for remote play.

I bought a US PSTV for 40$ because I want to play Chaos Rings Trilogy even though it's the japanese version. I don't think it'll come to NA and it's "supposed" to have english subs.

If I sign in with a japanese PSN account, will it work? (I guess so but I don't know for sure...)

I believe only the asian PSN Store will have the games with english subtitles, but it's limited to the first three games and they'll be tied to your asian account.

No idea, but there's a Vita flash sale going on now, so you might be able to pick up some games cheaply.

You're referring to the PSN flash sale right? Not seeing anything that appeals to me there unfortunately. I basically bought this thing for Danganronpa and P4G lol. Guess I'll just have to play the waiting game then.

And today was the day I boxed up my PS TV. I'll probably end up taking it out when I want to replay specific games on a bigger screen or play Persona, but I can play almost all my games better on my actual Vita. I only have 2 HDMI ports and I need to plug in my Roku.

I remember being so hyped for the Vita TV When it was announced too. Shame it received no video apps or better Vita game support.

ugh. Keep getting this message:

""Internet connection speed is currently not strong enough to start Remote Play"

WTF? It works on my Android tablet w/ Remote Play app but not the Vita TV?
