New Witcher 3 Patch on the way with huge list of changes and graphics improvements

Just read the article. This, in my opinion, is why CD Projekt Red don't deserve the same backlash as Ubisoft. This sort of honest, frank response is exactly what Ubisoft never does.

I'm really happy they just kind of laid it out finally, however it's clear that they waited until after the game came out.

Anywho, I'm ready for this patch. Game's great, save for a few errors that I think they can quickly fix.

Agreed. A bit disappointed that they're only now talking about it but at least they are. Only recently did Ubisoft talk about how they shit the bed with Unity.

Plus, the game is fucking miles better than Watch Dogs and Unity anyway.

So graphical improvements are coming to consoles too? Wow. I'm actually pretty surprised, that doesn't happen often.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
I don't want to start a downgrade debate here, but I though this comparison is pertinent.

If they can patch how the lighting affects mountains in the distance and add in volumetric smoke particle effects for the chimney, we are pretty much done. The actual assets are clearly still very high quality.

There's gotta be a reason why the game ended up looking cartoony as opposed to realistic semi-monochromatic.

No.

Both developers lied in the lead up to the games release, both promising there had been no downgrade, and both admitted it afterwards. As of this morning with CDPRs comments, there are now many articles on both that you can easily find.

They deserve the exact same backlash. Favouritism toward either is bullshit.

Or you could see it as them lying through their teeth until the game launched and they already had their pre-orders/sales in. The specifically said "There will be no downgrade" and then did just that, when asked a week beforehand they said nothing and the day after it comes out they finally speak.

Don't get me wrong, I like CDPR and their reaction does seem to come from a place of honesty and regret like they had no choice in the matter but it still sucks to see.

I mean im not expecting greatness but the game should scale down to where I can get a solid framerate. I can get it to look like shit and it barely does a difference to how it runs; that's what I mean

I've got a 680GTX as well and can't get stable 60fps on any setting. It's just a guess, but could it be the CPU that's bottle necking the machine? Most likely is for me (2500k)

Man, fucking certification. If there's an inventory crash fix in there it needs to be released now.

Basically this. They even said back then the final game will look better than the 2013 trailer!

How can they say now, only DX12 will get this kind of graphics when DX12 was announced only last year? Clearly bullshotting in the 2013 trailer..choice of different realtime engine my ass.

My mind is continually blown by people going "the developers are fixing bugs? must be a bad game" etc. Providing patches and support are not things that should be shamed, but rather applauded.

They're releasing it now... to certification.

Follow Geralt's lead: meditate to pass the time.

I'm only 5 hours in but my experience has been smooth as silk. My only real complaint is the font size and few niggles about the menus. I can't wait for their Cyberpunk game now. I hope more is shown at E3.

Not sure why everyone is so hung up on the graphics aspect. The game looks great and it is MASSIVE. I mean does this really ruin the gaming experience for you? Sure having smoke coming out of a chimney would be awesome looking, but if you are so hung up on that you can't enjoy a game of the year contender then I feel bad for you. As my 6 year old niece would say, Let it go!

Not everyone is on a platform that needs certification so it is indeed bullshit if they delay the PC patch arbitrarily to line it up with consoles, especially since that crash is specific to PC IIRC and far more likely to make the game flat out unplayable.

The pre release seems like color grading from a colorist after the footage was recorded, and then put through an anamorphic resolution and pushed down to 16:9 aspect ratio.

Rockstar does something similar to gtav pre release trailers.

Something I was thinking about today that I'd love to see patched for consoles and pad PC players, better hotkeying for signs. At the moment you can have one sign assigned to R2 (or equivalent) at a time. Even as an option I'd like to see R2 used as a shift key for other buttons.

R2 + L2 - Quen
R2 + R1 - Ard
R2 + Square - Igni
R2 + Triangle - Yrden
R2 + Circle - Axii

Unless I've over looked something I don't think that would conflict with any exisiting controls functions and would mean all five signs at your finger tips.

Man, I would love this. It would make me feel like I somehow got some Dragons Dogma in my Witcher 3

Did Ubisoft do that? I don't think they ever changed their position from "no downgrade" on Watch_Dogs.
Ubisoft said:
The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve. We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they're released, striving for the best possible quality[...]

They did say that the game was going to look worse than the reveal in some areas, months before the game launched.

The only problem I see here is that when you bring up the radial wheel to change signs the game isn't paused, its just slowed down. You can still get hit and take damage. Having every sign at your fingertips would remove this "penalty" for switching signs mid combat.

I'm really, really glad they changed it to look more colorful. I hate the monochromatic look in movies and games. It depresses me, and it's one reason why I can't stand to watch man of steel.

You can still switch signs mid combat without the wheel anyway. PC has hotkeys and on controller it's using the sword buttons while in combat (left and right on Dpad).

Please excuse my ignorance but what is RSS? The only other way I know to do this is with half rate adaptive vsync in the Nvidia control panel,

I got this game free with my new 960 but am finishing up a replay of Witcher 2 first. I'm glad I'm waiting. In the meantime I keep scouring these threads so that I'm prepared to tweak away when the time comes.

Rivatuner Statistic Server. It comes with MSI Afterburner - the latter is used to overclock/measure FPS in games. RSS is what you use to limit FPS.

Comes down to semantics at this point. I'm happy with how the game looks and plays, and with their explanation of why the game looks different to earlier trailers.

They showed plenty of the game in the last year or so. If you didn't like what you saw you had a long time to cancel your preorder. I fail to see any trickery on their part.

Who buys games purely based on graphics from trailers two years before release anyway?

Say what?!? I had no idea you could toggle through them on the controller.

First--Ubisoft is a publisher, and CDPR is a developer.

Second--CDPR has a documented history of supporting their games well after release. See both enhanced editions of W1, W2, as well as their continued support and expansion well after their release. As evidenced by these immediate and large patches, and as evidenced by their big free DLC plan, they're planning to continue this rewarding system with gamers for Witcher 3.

So, no, I don't agree that these two situations should be equally judged.

Now, to my main point. Complaining about downgrades, as Kotaku points out, is a very short-sighted argument. It's akin to office politics...it'll be forgotten with time. The content of the game...the narrative it pushes...the depth of its mechanics...the art direction...these are the resonant aspects of game design. Not the inherently deceptive nature of advertising. I agree with Kotaku, don't preorder if you're going to preemptively bitch about what you get. The Witcher 3 is the first game of this generation that I've preordered, and it's because I felt, given CDPR's history and their culture, that they'd not disappoint, and I wanted to support their company upfront. Be an informed consumer...don't place the onus on developers and publishers, especially since their transparency is often held back by contractual obligations, or fear of blowback.

Who buys games purely based on graphics from trailers two years before release anyway?

What's odd to me is that they released gameplay trailers and walkthroughs several times in the year before release, and many gamers still chose to focus on the initial, outdated reveal just because of its graphics. If CDPR truly wanted to be deceptive...why the hell would they show so much of the game.

well I like the game and its fun to play and the visuals were never going to determine whether I or many others bought it but it doesnt excuse it or make it right.

They did show the game a lot in the last year but it has consistently changed each time to where it is now. The final version downgrade was only seen recently leading up to release

The game still looks good and really impresses me from time to time, it just isnt what it could have been or what we were once shown

i started the game for the first time today on my pc and it crashed during the fight with the lurkers after the tutorial. whole screen went black. couldn't alt tab out, couldn't use task manager, had to press the reset button on my desktop to get out of it. didn't like that at all  also I'm quite surprised, i was able to get the game to run at around high 40s with occasionally it going higher or lower on ultra. thinking if i should lower some graphic settings to get 60fps or stay at ultra and just cap it at 30... hmmm I'll try both out tomorrow and see what i like better

Game just crashed horribly during the

Follow the thread quest

it wouldnt save after, it wouldnt load anything, PS4 couldnt shut down the game and the PS4 itself froze completely because it couldnt do anything

This patch needs to come soon and hopefully fix that.

I really hope NVidia fixes their driver as well. I keep getting crashes on Google Chrome! o_O

At this point, I'm not even sure if it's the game crashing or the drivers. Or both...

They changed the visuals so the game could even run on peoples' hardware. They made the right decision. Games change during development. They came out swinging with an experimental renderer and had to cull it for performance reasons.

The only mistake they made was trusting their audience to not be a rabid pack of wolves.
