Anyone else getting "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" crashes since downloading the latest Nvidia drivers?

Same system, same experience.

Shame Hairworks is still a 15FPS killer on larger enemies -
Fiend battle when you return to the witches bogs down to 45FPS with everything on Ultra
.

I mean, I could make sacrifices elsewhere to get hairworks going at 60FPS but I don't think it's worth the trade.

Maybe once I upgrade to a 980TI with EVGA's step up program, but not for now.

I haven't got to that part yet, perhaps it will chug, but cutscenes seem much better, and general gameplay is very smooth, I've put Hairworks AA at 4, cutscenes 60, and ubersampling off, but that's how I had it 1.02, and it wasn't great, plus 0 crashes.

first 6 hours of play - 5 crashes with both monitors on, different refresh rates

next 12 hours - 0 crashes with my 2nd monitor off

could just be luck, but thats my experience.

Everyone is getting the move camera while walking forward stutter, right? People using a controller that is...

Actually i have no stuttering at all.

I only noticed stuttering while i had the previous Nvidia driver for GTA V installed. Since i installed the latest driver for Witcher 3 the stuttering was gone!

i7 4790k @ 4 - 4.4Ghz, GTX 970 G1 Gaming, 1080p, Ultra preset +Hairworks, postprocessing OFF, game is installed on a SSD (Samsung EVO 850), not sure if that makes a difference.

The stuttering everyone is getting is when you're walking forward and at the same time slowly panning the camera.

You get no stutter when you do this?

By the way, my specs and performance -

i7 3770k@4.4 OC
7970 GHz 3GB @15.4 GTA driver
16GB RAM 1600MHz
1TB 7200rpm HD games(Witcher3)/ 128GB SSD OS
Win 7 64bit
pagefile off

PP settings all maxed except turned off DoF and motion blur, sharpening on med, AO on SSAO

Graphics mix of Medium-High-Ultra:
Number of Background Characters: High
Shadow Quality: Medium
Terrain Quality: Ultra
Water Quality: Medium
Grass Density: High
Texture Quality: Ultra
Foliage Visibility Range: High
Hairworks: off

1920x1080; windowed borderless; unlimited FPS, vsync off

RadeonPro settings - 16xAF, Dynamic vsync up to mon. ref. rate aka 60hz, mipmap and texture q very high

From the worst 36fps in some scenarios to 60fps depending on scene complexity.
Usually hovers around 45-53fps.

No crash ever. 9 hours in.
Pat on back CDPR. Good job - continue improving this game!

yes happens everytime the game freezes in inventory (especially when reading books)... or does it freeze because the drivers tend to crash while you are in inventory?

Also happened twice while browsing (without a game being run in the background). So I deinstalled all nvidia drivers in safe mode (useing DDU) and reinstalled them cleanly whitouh geforc experience and other useless (to me) shenanigans. Now the drivers at least seem to work in windows (win 8.1 here). But there is something wrong with them...

I've had no more crashes since the patch, but one instance of a weird dithering shadow on Geralt's face in a cutscene, and then in another cutscene his face very obviously changing between different detail levels. I hope that gets ironed out.

Dual monitor is actually (suspectedly) causing crash according to this gog support page.
https://www.gog.com/support/the_witcher_3_wild_hunt_preorder/crash_to_desktop
UNPLUG SECONDARY MONITOR (IF USING MULTIPLE DIFFERENT MONITORS)
We suspect that The Witcher 3 cannot handle a situation where you have two monitors, and they have very different refresh rates. Even if this isn't the case for you, try physically unplugging your secondary monitor, and launch the game.

I just got that about 15 minutes ago.

Yea, it happened to me about 3 times while just browsing on chrome without the game running. I uninstalled all the video drivers in safe mode then reinstalled the latest drivers... and it happened again within 30 minutes of chrome browsing. So I've rolled back the previous drivers and hoping that it doesn't happen again. Had me worried it was my GPU, which would suck since I only just got about a month ago. (EVGA SSC 970)

I'm running game with almost perfect 60 fps on 1080p. Everything Ultra except Hairworks Off, Grass density and Foliage distance set to High (didn't see really big difference in graphics keeping it Ultra but difference between Ultra and High is almost 10 fps) . All post processing On. Framelimit: Unlimited, ingame vsync off but set adaptive in nvidia control panel. I have also power management set to performance. My System: Intel i5 2500K, GTX970, 8GB RAM.
But there is one problem - cutscenes. Why there is frameskipping or whatever that effect is. Last cutscene I noticed that was
Yen and Geralt running away on horses from Wild Hunt after Wild Orchid
Is there a way to fix that? 1.0.3 patch says some fixes for cutscenes but it didn't fix that for me.

I'm not  I notice it very easily if my framerate drops from 60 to 55, and locked 30 feels like a stuttery mess to me. So pretty sure I would notice what you are talking about.

Wonder what causes it...

Wait, you are getting it, or are not getting it?

My frame rate reads a solid 60 when I get the stutter. And yes, it is way worse if I lock the frame rate to 30.

So... is there a consensus on how to lock at 30 fps ? Riva or ingame toggle? Borderless or Fullscreen ?

Most of the time, I'm playing on my 55' 1080p plasma TV screen, and I don't know why but 30 fps looks TERRIBLE on it when playing onPC.

30 fps console games look good ... What gives ?

Thanks, that work for me. but I run two 970s.. its like this game dont have SLI support

Anyone else having a problem when you switch to Full Screen it completely crashes the monitor?

I was under the impression you get better performance in Full Screen mode.

InGame Vsync off, fps unlimited, borderless fullscreen. Framelock through RTSS, vsync forced via nvidia cp.

At least thats what i was told by one fine gentleman in here, and it works great for me.

Also, is your TV a pal (50Hz) or ntsc (60Hz) device?

Huh, I have 2 monitors with different resolution and Hz and I've only had the game freeze on me (but still play music) 2 times in my 26 hours with it and that seemed to be caused by borderless windowed mode.

I'm glad I'm not getting that problem.

Same. Both of my monitors have different resolutions and refresh rates and I haven't had a crash yet. Only about 3 hours in though.

never left the stone age
Not sure how to do that, apparently it doesn't work with RadeonPro on DX11 or something.

No, ultra foliage + ultra shadows will brutalize your framerate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxKxE-m5wpY

Seems everything on Ultra except Foliage Distance (medium) is a go on the 280x. Suppose dropping Shadows to High to bump Foliage to High is a good compromise though.

I also find it hilarious how my 280x is gonna bottleneck my FX6300 this time, that isn't really common :lol. Stock FX6300 with a GTX970 runs better than the 8350 with a 280x. This game is super light on the CPU side of things

Finished the prologue. Arriving in Velen it is up to 40 seconds to load the game after dying, on my 7200 HDD. It is really annoying, if you play 20 minutes and loading after dying again and again takes up at least 12 mins of that...
Is it faster from SSD, what are your experiences?

Just curious, have you had any crashes with your Titan X SLI setup?

I was getting a lot of random ones this afternoon, but it mysteriously disappeared since. But now it crashes every time I go to the inventory. Not able to open it at all! :/

Oh! Takes about the same time as White Orchard for me. 4-5 seconds. SSD here

This game is glorious.

Patch 1.03 has me within 55-60 @ 1080 with more consistency now where I was getting 45-60 before. I'm the kind that prefers pretty to high fps. Less stuttering, never had crashing issues.

- HAIRWORKS ON ON ON
- Everything ULTRA in post, HBAO+
- Everything ULTRA in video, except foliage and shadows (HIGH)
- Triple buffer adaptive vsync (set to off/unlimited in game)

i5 4690K
GTX 970 SC
950 EVO SSD
16GB 1866Mhz RAM
DELL U2415 IPS

I'm not seeing much of a difference with the Hairworks on my Titan X. FPS still plummets when the hair strands are very close to camera and taking up most of screenspace.

I love the sharpening though.;)

I'm in the camp of people that just haven't had any issues with the game at any point. No stutters, no crashes, no anything (which is even funnier when considering that I'm on Windows 10 and using an AMD R9 290).

Anyways, with the last patch, I was able to put everything on Ultra (hairworks off, of course) and only have the game dip to around 45+ fps
around the swamps in Velen
when raining

Yes. I "clearly" noticed that stuttering with the old driver especially during panning the camera. I did not explicitly focus on that stuttering, it just was very intense, which is why i updated the driver right away.

Haven't noticed it since then. (i guess that means there is no stuttering... but i haven't made any further micro-stuttering investigations, cause the game feels ok)

Besides the actual movement and animations do not always feel smooth (less responsive), for example changing the direction by 180°. But i guess thats a different story...

Just an update on the crashes (not in game) with new nvidia server:

An nvidia rep on the geforce forum stated that the crashes are confirmed and being investigated .

It's good to know at least.

I'm running at a near constant 60fps using Geforce Experience settings. Most settings are set to High or Ultra except for both DoF presets(off) and hairworks(off). I'm quite pleased with how it looks. Running on a stock GTX 970 and a stock 8350FX

2500k @ 4ghz
8 gigs ram
Factory overclocked 270X 2gig

1080p

Most settings on Ultra.
Hair: off
Shadows: high.

25 to 31 fps with some dips to low 20s, but very playable.

Much better performance than I expected. No crashes at all so far.

Will continue to tweak and get framerates higher. Turning shadows to medium is my next move.

I can post video if anyone wants to see. It might take me a day or two to get it recorded and up, but I can record a bit if anyone is curious.

I'm getting ~40fps on my GTX 970, the funny thing is that my specs are:

Core2Duo E6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
4GB DDR2 800Mhz

Dude...why?

I'm pretty sure my GTX 570 was being bottlenecked by my old Q6600@3.6GHz years ago. Your setup is insanely unbalanced.

I expected that kind of response haha ;)

I'm waiting for an i5 4690K to arrive, I just didn't have the patience to keep my GTX970 in the box and had to try it on my old computer :(

Haha, sorry. I wrote it in a hurry at work. I do NOT notice what you are talking about when I have 60 fps.
I was trying to say I am pretty sensitive to stuff like that, so I would notice stutter if there were any.

Loading from my SSD is so fast I can't even read the tips on the loading screen. I would say about 1 second. I'm still very early in th game though.
