I have a pair of Shures with a breakaway cable, so the headphone cable is really short. You can replace the long cable with a remote cable that Shure sells and bam, best of both worlds.

I have Shure SE210s plus the Music Phone adaptor It's great. People complain that the mic is too low, but from what I understand it's designed to hang that far below yet still capture your voice - I had it hang that low and my calls were supposedly going through fine.

How did you like the sound quality on them?

I've heard many stories of Apple In-ear also falling apart rather quickly to be honest. especially the little remote piece. If I keep them I'll try to be very careful with them - but other than Vibe Duos and these Apple In-ears I don't know of any other earbuds that have remote/mic compatible with Iphones.

Negative. I've had the Apple In-ear's since they launched. October, I think? They are still in perfect condition and sound fantastic. I always keep them in the protective case when I'm not using them, but I don't overly baby them.

Yeah, the only reason I haven't bit the bullet yet is that for years I've been running my Shures behind my back. I dunno how easy it'd be for me to make the switch and have the wire be in front.

Two are ambient light sensors (the original iPhone only had one - the iPhone 3G added a second to increase sensitivity), the third is a proximity sensor to detect your face up against it.

On this note, I SWEAR that the Google Voice search app uses not only the proximity sensor, but also the motion in the accelerometer to detect when you put it up against your ear - because if you do it slowly, it doesn't work. Clever.
Thanks for the response. Did not know that.

just a simple question. Finally ive purchased a mobileme accout.
Push Notifications should be on the "Home" Screen or am i wrong?
In the beginning it worked, but today there wasnt any push message on the home screen. Only the vibra + "1" on mail.app.

What the **** happenend?

hEist said:
got that also... still no freaking push @mobileme email.

3.0 Push Notifications != Push Email

iPhone has supported Push email from day 1. If you have an email account that supports Push (MobileMe, Exchange, and Yahoo), your phone will buzz the instant you get a new message. It won't pop up a notice. It'll play the "email received" sound and it will vibrate, and it will add a badge to the email icon. You won't get a pop-up notice. You won't ever get a pop-up notice. There isn't a setting for it. There never has been. Pop-up notices are only for 3rd party apps that support push (and only if the developer decides to implement them).

I've had MobileMe for a few months and Push email has worked flawlessly. I've had Exchange running since 2.0 and it also works flawlessly.

Sounds great, if only not for the fact that I already have similar setup with my Denon C751s, except for the missing remote - but the whole setup is a bit heavy and clunky, the large two piece connector down the cable doesn't make it very walking friendly due to it's weight.

Yeah, I could be wrong, I was just reading some impressions on amazon and apple store, but people are always much more prone to write those impressions when they complain than when they're satisfied with something.

On another note, the more I listen to them, the more I like them. I never thought I'd like earphones without strong bass but these sound so clean and clear that it's impossible not to appreciate that.

I've had the new Apple In-Ears since Christmas and they're great. It took me awhile to figure out the perfect fit. My ears are odd and for some reason the medium cap fits better in my right ear and the small cap in my left ear. I have no idea why. You can't buy a pair of headphones for <$100 better than these in my opinion. I've used more expensive headphones before and they sound better, but these Apple phones sound almost as good and are a fraction of the cost. Probably the best pair out there when you look at price/performance ratio.

I'm taking a plane trip to Vegas in a couple of weeks and was looking for some good IEMs for the flight, based on you guys I'm thinking of going to just go with the Apple's. It will be nice to have all the functions of the stock iPhone earbuds. How are the Apple In-Ears as far as isolation goes?

Great. I used them on a flight a month ago(also to Vegas, high five), and they performed perfectly. I watched The Incredibles again, and I couldn't hear anything around me.

For the price, you can't find a nicer pair of In-Ear's.

I'm not sure which model you have, but the volume rocker only works on the 2G Touch and 3GS. The play/pause/FF/rewind button works on everything.

I returned Vibe duos and bought the Apple In-ear's, and yes, Apple's are superior. The bass is not as strong as the Duo's, but it is clear and crisp sound, and great build quality for less money. That's the key, it's the best sound you can buy for $79 and have full phone functionality, IMO.

On the in-ear market? Well id say the Sony MDR-EX90LP come close to the apple BUT if you look on the complete headphone market there are way way better headphones out there.

Like i said i think the sound of the apple in ears is flat and doesnt do a god job at any kind of music. Neither "classic" nor "hiphop"

Find me a pair that are higher quality, have complete phone controls, and are under $100.

And of course they have to be In-ear, they need to be portable so I can carry them in my pocket at all times.

Agreed.

I put in a fair bit of research when I was going to buy a new set after my original earphones (the ones that come with the iphone) fell apart on me. In the end, going off a number of review sites and user impressions, there simply isn't better earphones you can buy at that price point. The Apple in-ear earphones are cheaper than everything else and have advantages over many that are dearer.

Just got my iPhone.

1. Do I need to call Sprint and cancel my service?
2. I can't seem to call Verizon numbers - provisioning issue on the switch?

iPods are usually refreshed in the Fall (September, October)

Just sold my 2G myself. Before sending it away, I had a question for you all: Is the Erase All Content and Settings option in Settings the best way to go with clearing all my data? Any other method I should do or look out for?

I'd like to know about this as well. I'm selling mine this week.

Actually, I just saw this one instead:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10831&cs_id=1083105&p_id=5480&seq=1&format=2

I love Monoprice's stuff, it's only $15, and I could easily slip it in my pocket. Seems like it would be perfect for those times I'd actually need that much power - on a long car trip, plane ride, etc. I don't really need one that stays attached to the iPhone at all times like the Juice Pack.

Unlocked/jailbroke my 3G and put it back up for sale for $350. Let's see if we get any takers. If so it'll really take the bite out of paying full price for the 3GS...

If you decide to order it, let us know how it works.

Those battery extenders are nice, but you need to remember to charge them and they won't work while the phone is in a case. I bought the Griffin one that uses 4 AAA's. I don't have to worry about charging it, and it has a bit of cable, so it works with any case. The downside is it's more expensive if you use disposables. It does work with rechargeable AAA's of course.

It works for me because I'll only need it occasionally. It usually sits in my desk drawer.

That seems even better. Same price, doesn't need to recharge (just pop in new batteries) and is from a reputable brand.

Does it has a pass-through dock connector on it (so that you can charge it with that and still have access to the dock connector)? I'm guessing no but it would be nice.

edit: doesn't say iPhone 3G compatibility, only iPod touch? should work though since the dock connector is the same though right?

No, it doesn't have a pass through. It also get's hot, but I had it in my pocket with the phone and it didn't burn me up. :lol

4 AAA's gave me almost a full charge from 20%.

EDIT: The packaging I bought specifically mentioned the iPhone and I believe 3G. I bought it at Best Buy, so you can check there I guess.

If you travel a lot, a lithium option is going to be better in the long run. This is a twice a year type thing for me, and I was afraid the lithium battery would suffer from lack of use.

Sorry for the stupid question but what is 3G exactly? I looked at the iphone video on apple.com and it doesn't mention it and wikipedia was too indepth for my question - is it basically internet access anywhere? Yesterday I was driving in the middle of nowhere (just corn fields) and I needed a number and had to 411 it. If I had 3G could I just look it up on google or something?

Also, can I bring my current number over (currently on t-mobile, contract expired awhile ago, just going month to month now)?

To simplify it, it's a type of cell phone data speed. Think of going from EDGE to 3G as going from slow DSL to fast cable broadband. AT&T has 3G towers broadcasting all over the place, and if you're in range, you can access the Internet or do voice calls using their 3G network. The original iPhone used EDGE which is basically the same thing but much slower. If you have an iPhone 3G and you're not within range of a 3G signal, the iPhone will fall back to using the EDGE network.

3G can theoretically do about 3.6Mbps (with the iPhone 3GS able to do 7.2Mbps when AT&T upgrades their network), though in real use it feels slower because of the latency.

Same price, but then you have to go and buy separate batteries too. That gets pricey after a while. Monoprice is a very reputable brand, especially for their cables

I ordered one of the ones I linked to, will report back when I get it next week-ish and use it for a while.

Also, the one I posted should work fine in a case considering that it can easily sit outside a case...at least, should work fine with the case I use.

Cool. Good to know. I have the 3Gs so I should get the full functionality. I will definetly be picking up a pair of these before my trip. :D

Alright, I'm a little pissed, I have this really, really tiny scratch on the screen of my new 3GS and I have no idea how. It's always kept in its own pocket away from keys and loose change and all that.

Although it's not a big deal, the idea that it's scratched just irks me. Should I just go to the Apple store or is there a home remedy solution?

So I ordered the Revo2, but I am reading that the screen protecting film takes away the sensitivity. Is there a better film that I can buy that will work with the Revo2? Or do most of the films do this?

It wouldn't work with my case, since it needs to sit flush against the bottom of the phone. Like I said, separate batteries was a plus for me since I'll rarely use it. If you think you'll get a lot of use out of it, Lithium is definitely the way to go.

I'll be interested to hear your impressions.

I'm having Apple customer service call me tomorrow about the single stuck pixel on my screen. I wonder if they'll play ball, or give me the standard LCD screen speech.

Oh lawd I made the mistake of updating Myst on my phone instead of my PC. Here I am thinking it is a tiny update, but I think it turned out being around 500MB+. Needless to say my phone battery is in the red now. :lol

If I was a smug bastard, I'd say that you should stop reviewing headphones - but for real, I think you should give those another chance, as after listening to them for few days I too think you'll be hard pressed to find earphones in the same price range that sound better. Also, trust me, this was not what I thought at first. I was ready to dismiss them completely after listening to them after my Denon C751 for five minutes - that is until I started paying more attention to what I'm hearing. Yes, they sound 'flat' but ideal headphones should sound flat. They shouldn't be coloring the sound in any way as that just distorts the original recorders intention of what the song is supposed to sound like. There's a reason audio professionals in studios go exclusively for as flat sounding monitor headphones as possible. You can color the sound later on through amps/equalizers if you want, but there's no real reason headphones should be doing that, other than personal preference.

They do have bass, not as strong as some others, but if you for example compare them (with much cheaper) Sennheiser CX300, Senns have much stronger bass, but the bass is also much more distorted and boomy, much less crisp and controlled, and mids/highs sound completely muffled in comparison. Hell, my Denon C751, which are more expensive than Apple in-ears, also have the problem where some complex sound sequences are mushy and muffled. I have yet to find a single song that would confuse apple in-ears like that. Everything sounds really clear and well defined in them. Also, Denons sound a lot more 'closed' - like if all sound is right inside the head (which is actually fine for some music), where with Apple's there's some sense of larger space where the sound is coming from.

Finally got my Iskin solo nightcrawler in the mail and wow it looks amazing! The material isn't plastic, but feels more gel like. The case is a bit translucent so the apple logo in the back is showcased with a tint of navy blue.

I've had my iPhone 3gs with no screen protector since launch since I didn't see a need for it. But since the iskin solo includes a screen shield I put it on and now i have front screen scratch protection. The iskin solo case provides drop protection so overall complete ease of mind plus looking very stylish.

As for using the actual 3gs itself wow, it is so much faster than the og Iphone. Apps load quicker, websites appear lightning fast, dramatic overall speed boost was enough for me to upgrade from the original Iphone.

My one and only gripe is that there is still no flash support which prevents access to numerous websites. Perhaps Apple intentionally kept out flash support since there are a lot of websites with free flash games? If Apple did include flash support then their apple store won't be as grand as before ;0
