Fallout 4 Officially Revealed for PC, Xbox One, PS4 [Reddit Rumor = Ban]

Was Durante's post directed towards mine? I cannot find it anywhere.

Regardless, I am not going to lecture someone who is more knowledgable than I on draw calls. He has a point about there not being post processing in the images. If there was AO alone I think fewer peeps would be upset though. Gamebryo has never had AO though has it? I can understand why they would stick with the Creation (gamebryo 3.0ish) Engine though. Their world state saving system alone would be a nightmare to completely redo in another engine. My eyes bleed just thinking about the massive amount of work that has gone into how they keep their worlds so dynamic. Redoing all of that, man, no thanks.

BTW, my knowledge comes from optimizing 3d games for android and IOS where the draw call caps are at roughly 70 - 100 calls perform performance tanks. Its a pain in the ass, thankfully our next game is for the ps4.

His response was to another QFTing of yours so it was tangentially related.

To be clear I recognise that draw calls are an obstacle for certain 3D tasks (particularly on PC) and I didn't intend to belittle your knowledge but I would question how much of the Gamebryo jank is down to draw calls alone. The engine seems very inefficient in a lot of different areas such as memory from the odd sector loading thing to the engine recording the location of literally every object in the game world (which is why Skyrim PS3 was such a joke in the end game).

I'm not sure if Fallout or Skyrim games have had native AO or if I just remember enabling it via the control panel for my card at the time.

Can we please get back to talking about the actual game?

For example, there was that one bit in the trailer with the nuclear bomb going off. Do we think Fallout 4 going to be a prequel?

Would be neat if the tutorial was right before the nukes hit. I doubt it's a prequel, though.

apparently there was a reddit leak on the game last year. A lot of what was posted is matching up with what we have seen so far.

LOCATION: Fallout 4 is set in and around Boston and the surrounding countryside.
In Fallout 4, mixing things up, we are making the game more "Story Based" and the player character will finally talk, and narrate his storyline.
At the beginning of the game, you create your character (You can only be a male in the main story)
The map of Fallout 4 is about 3 times the size of Skyrim
Three Dog returns as well, although he is only heard on the radio, and not seen in person.
The first version that will be released is being developed for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC. This version uses a brand new engine built from the ground up to take advantage of the power of next gen systems.
RELEASE DATE: BGS has a "Roadmap" already planned out for Fallout 4 and a spinoff. I already was informed about it from the studio when I worked there, and I read it. Basically, the roadmap is this:
June 2015 - Fallout 4 reveal at E3, trailer only
July 2015 - First gameplay trailers
August 2015 - More information
October 2015 - PS4/Xbox One/PC release
November 2015 - First DLC
December 2015 - Second DLC, as well as PS3/360 version release
January 2016 - Third DLC
March 2016 - Forth DLC
April 2016 - Fifth and Final DLC
June 2016 - Fallout Spinoff revealed, in development by Behaviour Interactive.
October 2016 - Fallout Spinoff released for PS4/Xbox One/PC
the leaker states she used to work for Bethesda and was fired hence the revenge leak.

and people didn't believe her? aaahahaha.

yeah, she is laughing right now.

so ps3/360 versions confirmed for 1 year after release.

It could have flashbacks or something, though it would be weird in a Fallout game. I think it's just part of the trailer honestly.

To me this thread exemplifies why as gamers we get what we get.

It never became so clear to me as it has with this thread but today's gamer, in general, doesn't deserve honest marketing. We flat out don't.

People seem much more happy being given bullshit vertical slices of games on reveal so they can ooh and ahh and hope the game will release in that state. knowing that it won't.

you release an honest trailer and people will shit on you. In huge numbers because it doesn't look like the bullshot trailers they have come to expect. You be deceptive and make a bullshot trailer and people will come out in droves in aww at first and then you get only a small minority that carries the deserved outrage when the curtain is pulled back to reveal the truth once the hype train starts to roll.

I can't shake my head enough at what I've read here today.

Yup. I mean it's not quite as pretty. Just a bit but still looked decent. We don't know for sure how far off it is too or if that was console footage.

Although this (below) is fair too - apart from the lighting, looked better to me iirc.

You seem to have confused "I criticise you for releasing lies" with "I criticise you for releasing poor looking software". I applaud Bethesda for being honest, this is no Sega/Gearbox BS, but on the other hand what they've released is a trailer that looks at best on par with the work done in the PC modding community with NV and FO3. None of the longstanding criticisms of their engine seem to have been addressed, lighting, shadows, animation and what has been addressed are stuff that come for 'free' with better base hardware (ie textures).

If Bethesda have:
- allowed you to enter structures without a loading screen
- written quests that amount to more than 'Go to X, fetch Y' or 'Kill 5 x Monster A'
- fixed the damn sector based data system that results in super crappy view ranges
that's not here.

So we discuss what is here and we have come to opposite conclusions, you are hyped, I am disappointed.

The "brand new engine" part debunks the whole thing. Sry bud. Said not a single asset/script is being reused and that is clearly not true. The game is clearly on the Creation Engine or whatever they're calling it now.

People are paying the same $60 dollars for this game same as any other .
The promotional image has no AO , poor AA, not casting shadows etc etc people just calling out what they seeing , you don't even have to look to hard to see it .

Isn't that what you meant to say?

All of those things can be added in over the months until release. At this point in development they are still optimizing and they needed the trailer to run well (since its in game). Maybe wait and see if it improves closer to release?

This is what happens when you release truthful gameplay trailers too early in development. They are doing the opposite of what CDProjekt did and getting shit on for it.

Game devs are in a lose, lose situation.

Exactly my thoughts.

I am more concerned about the gameplay and all the RPG mechanics of the game because graphics can be fixed with mods (on PC at least).

What I really expect is Fallout 4 to be even more complex in environmental and character reactivity than its predecessors. In such ways that that will be more paramount to the sense of immersion in the game than the marginal (though noticeable) graphical improvements. FO3 and NV were already some of the best games in terms of character immersion and sense of place/atmosphere due to that and their looks didn't hamper them that much. The sense of "existing" in a virtual vast world and be free to explore, lose oneself int the vastness of its world, interact with the fauna and characters in meaningful and lasting ways is the true allure of these games. They're not perfect at this, they break the illusion sometimes, but when they reach that sweet spot... Oh yeah... That's unmatchable by any other game.

it seemed awfully close to what we got in the trailer, though. can't deny that.

boston, voiced protag, etc.

i mean, what faker can come up with those 11 months ago and match what was shown in the trailer?

not to mention, the strong and loud accusations of it looking a little bit last-gen-y in some regards.

I'll be honest and say I'm a tad disappointed with the reveal. The graphics look underwhelming and feels more like a remaster.

If CDPR had taken an actual slice of their in production footage for their initial release trailer for the consoles I think people would of lost their minds at how bad it likely looked. But it would of been honest.

But instead they provided a bullshit vertical slice and lied about it up til release and sold millions. The highest count posters in the downgrade thread were people defending CDPR.

That is my point. Gamers today, they get what they deserve. As a publisher I would look at a thread like this and ask myself "what is the point of honest reveals???" I'm better off with a untiy, GTA or Witcher 3 type deception because it builds hype and the naysayers get drowned out. Unattainablly polished and with subtle upgrades that not even the maxed PC version will have. That seems to be what gamers respond too even though you bring up the topic and everyone says they hate it. Well, you clearly don't.
So unless there's a positive response, there's no point in being honest, that's what you're suggesting?
Honest has to be expected, not rewarded.

I think if 360/ps3 versions are ever released that'd be pretty interesting in respect to the whole cross-gen speculating situation.

On topic of gameplay, I hope there's plenty of gameplay before the vaults as those environments seemed pretty interesting to explore.

I've always been a big fan of the way Bethesda handles world-building.

Well Skyrim also has "brand new engine" called Creation Engine which is slightly updated Gamebryo so it wouldn't be reach to get "brand new engine" line again, when in reality it's Creation Engine rebranded.

This is 11 months old, but a ton of this was already known from Kotaku's 2013 leak.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess the Naughty Bear people aren't making a spin-off.

for the type of game we're expecting and from what the previous games looked like, i think fallout 4 looks pretty nice in the graphics department.

Like a remaster? Spoken like someone who doesn't remember what Fallout 3 and New Vegas actually look like. On any level. There's no way an in-house remaster of those games for next gen consoles would have looked half as good as this (or at least looked half this good and run worth a damn) because of the constraints of its engine.

All that matters is that Bethesda needs to get ron perlman to do the intro. I don't care how much money they need to dump on his front yard, but they need to do it, even if half the games budget is to get him to do his 2 minute intro.

uh yeah ok

just got home and was able to watch the trailer

I.. didnt like it

- graphics look real bad
- is that not ron perlman?
- "epic" music wut
- voiced main character?

I kinda sorta dig the colors but it makes it look really not like Fallout at all..

and yeah I guess you get to play before / after in some way. that's alright

Haha, so she just said fuck it after accidentally revealing some information and being fired for it.

Well shit, this looks pretty comprehensive. I wonder if she knows anything else.

I wonder why they chose to reveal this a week before E3. They have a whole conference right? Guess they have even more surprises up their sleeve.

what if the game looks like it does because it's made for VR?

Now if it looks like this because they're aiming for VR then that is a true megaton and would probably justify not spending the post-processing cycles on anything else. As far as I'm aware the frame reprojection tech Epic and Sony have been talking about to ensure 60fps per eye is mostly a post-effect.

For me, Fallout 4 looks like a next-gen Bethesda game.

Why some of you people expected cream of the crop graphics that would rival CDPR games is beyond me. Skyrim and Fallout weren't great lookers last gen.
It's just not how Bethesda rolls.

The precedent was set. You chose to ignore it to chase your own unrealistic dreams. That's on you, not Bethesda.

Yh, god forbid we start holding Bethesda to a higher standard

I don't have experience with Gamebryo, or Creation Engine but it is entirely possible that the engine (if they are using it) just sucks at handling graphical information (which draw calls are a part of). I mean there is a reason why we moved on from Unreal 2 to 3 and 4.

My post was mostly directed at people who wonder why the game possibly doesn't look as good The Witcher 3. Which I admit, can be summarized better using your example (old ass engine vs brand new engine) and my example (one is a dynamic environment, the other mostly static) together for a more complete picture.

We are merely speculating though, as we don't know if this is Creation Engine. It could be a new engine and Bethesda just sucks at graphics...lol.

I guess some of that leak changed then? The player character here is clearly a young vault dweller.

Kinda kills the only reason they would have for male only.

He is, I believe. After the trailer dropped he posted on twitter that the existence of the game was the hardest secret he has ever had to keep.

I agree that the game can look better come time of release but this is what they show so this is what people going to talk about .
Also game devs \pubs have put there self in this situation by pulling all the bullshit they have threw out the years .
