Dirty tag dodger
It gets dark too early and stays dark for too long.

Started building a house then died thanks to an aggressive herbivore. Really sucks losing everything every single time you die. And sleeping bag is single use? =/

Any way to get around these things?

Yes, there are more engrams than engrams points, so my tribe has been splitting up roles and has been working out so far. Builder/ Armorer / Druglord( narcotics and stims lol) / Tamer.

Also, I would disagree that it's like dayZ or Rust. Seems more PvE oriented with a splash of PvP. Rust just gave you weapons easily while it takes a whiiiile to even get a pistol in this game. Also, Dinosaurs > Zombies

So I jumped into the game today. I built a hut and gathered a bunch of stuff. I was running and heard someone call my name. I turned around and found a guy and girl staring me in the face. They asked what I was up to. As I was typing they knocked me out and killed me.

I have to admit I was mad at myself for being stupid enough to trust them. I respawned not too far from my area of death. It was dark by the time I got there. I found 3 people by a camp fire. It was the tribe that killed me. I stalked up behind them, naked and randomly dropping a deuce. I hid in the tall grass, crafted a spear and watched them for a bit. I charged. Spearing the guy that killed me in the back and killed him, I went after the girl next and finally took out the low level guy that was with them.

I have to say the game is entertaining. I got the encounter on video so it is fun to watch over and over. =)

Welcome to hardcore survival games. Expect to die and lose your shit ALOT! Thats how its supposed to be! lol

Had a blast today. Logged into my wood house to find I survived the night. Decided to expand it a bit. Finished that expansion was thinking about what to do next when I heard something outside, it was a level 4 raptor. I knocked her out, tamed her, hunted with her to get food and hides, made a saddle, rode all up and down the coast giving meat to fresh spawns. Hit up a supply cache, it had full set of hide armor, gave it to first person I saw since I was already wearing hide.

Leveled up the raptor and myself to where I could build a dino gate and dino gate door. Expanded the house again, can now park the raptor in the garage when I want to log, woot.

Only died a couple times and that was to wildlife and entirely my fault.

It is a bit rough around the edges but it is home. I'm playing on a 660 with most things set to medium or low. Framerate still pretty bad at times. The worst is the dawn lighting for some reason.

Is this true? That actually sounds kinda interesting. So early on, you need to sleep in a tree or something, and maybe someday you can build an actual shelter? Or maybe even a town? Do they have shelters? lol

yes it is like Rust where you have "sleepers". You either need to have a shelter (which can be broken in to) or hide somewhere remote before logging out.

Yeah, the devs are still optimizing it. I've seen a 10fps increase to ~40 during the last 5 or so patches today. You might want to set everything to low, and anti-aliasing to epic. and move the ground/sky clutter all the way to the left. The game still looks decent enough.

I can set everything to absolute lowest including resolution scale, and I can only get a max of 20 fps. How are people actually playing this x.x

So a friend and I started our settlement on the Gaf server tonight, we don't wanna say what section or side yet in fear of hostility but we are open to inviting more into our tribe as long as we feel it won't be to our ultimate demise :p.

We have our first building going, and working our way to level 15 for that sweet sweet bow and arrow to start really doing some hunting.

I have a 970 and get 25-30 with everything on medium except textures and AA which are both on high. Don't know why yours is so bad though. Turn down sky quality and ground clutter maybe.


We figured out how to make dye tonight so I decided to paint the house. The second picture involves a room where something horrible took place.

Hmm maybe this is my issue? I only did a local game, I'll have to try getting into the server again tomorrow. Didn't seem to be working earlier but maybe it just needed more time.

Pro tip:

Don't pick up dinosaur eggs left on the coast, as the mother triceratops may be near and follow you for kilometers and through a river till she reaches your house, demolishes it and your life.

The server is called "NeoGAF Unofficial ARK Server". You'll need to use the Steam server browser to find it easily. (Open Steam > Click 'View > Click "Servers". Change filter to Ark Survival Evolved and refresh server list).

It will ask for a password. Quote this post to see the password:

Sometimes I wonder if people have ever seen games under development for just over a month.

This is what early access should be. This isn't the polished beta which devs want to use the excuse of early access for not patching the bugs out.

This is still very much in development. You can tell by the multiple patches every day.

Your 280 is far from fine in the games current state unless an average of ~40fps on low is your definition of fine. :p

At the moment you need to sacrifice everything but post process AA and textures to have a good experience (above 30FPS all the time) really.

Unless you really want it, I'd say hold of until there's been some real performance gains. And don't trust reddit unless there's proof of big performance gains, apparently the latest patch made the fps go from 20 to 50-80 according to one person. I have yet to receive this magical patch. There was one that changed the settings for the presets and resolution scaling was turned way down on low, which of course gives a lot of performance but it also looks like hot garbage.
