Japanese Nintendo 3DS Import Thread | Brand New 3D, Same Old Region Lock

I could always just make a new NN id but I'd like to avoid that as I don't have a spare email address to attach it to.

Any help is appreciated!
You can actually use the same email on multiple NNIDs, just make sure it is a different name.
I used the same one for my PAL and JPN systems.

The transfer process is the same in every region so you could just find an English tutorial on youtube and choose the same buttons.

I did make a Japanese transfer guide sometime but don't know if I have it here... I'll have to check later. (I would still recommend using an English video though)

For all who bought Majora's Mask, all other Zelda games are on sale.

You should've received an email! *(^o^)/*

I was afraid they might have altered the process in some way. If you can't find your guide Ill try using a US tutorial. Thanks!

Couldn't find it on my pc, but I just remembered I once sent it as a PM on this board. So I dug around in my sent messages and found it :).

Sending you a PM!

Today's the last day to get the Kunio-kun games for half-off on the eShop. I picked up all three, though I've only been playing Kunio-kun Special ("Renegade" remake). It's a ton of fun, the Japanese is really simple and there's no kanji. Definitely worth a go if you're a lower-level Japanese learner, or just like fun beat-em-up games.

I think it may also be the last day for the Fire Emblem sale, although those have a much higher language requirement.

I picked up a bunch of FE games on Wii U. What's the appeal of the Kunio games? I like beat 'em ups, so I suppose I'd like 'em. That fantasy one looks interesting.

They were some of the most groundbreaking brawlers in the era they came out in. They introduced free-roam maps (branching paths through the town with random street encounters) and RPG elements with equipment and stores. All before Double Dragon even came out (which was by many of the same people).

They're also just really fun, quirky games about Japanese street punks in high school, with great, stupid, chibi pixel art.

熱血硬派くにおくんスペシャル is a remake of the very first one, so that's a great place to start if you've never touched them before.

Any good Yokai Watch 2 walkthroughs out there?

I'm getting around pretty well since this game is very good with its mission markers, but I'd like one just in case I get in completely over my head.

Edit:
Man, is there a trick to the bug catching mini games? I suck royally at them.

DQ VIII is being remade for the 3ds..

Anyone excited or what? It has some more content/characters added. I'm pumped, gonna buy it on release day.

Can't wait. I've given up on VII 70 hours in, and while I kind of want to finish it, I won't and will pick up VIII day one.

Prob means no Bravely Second until after. Hopefully that'll go down in price.

I've hardly started my Japanese PS2 version of VIII, so it makes me want to just give up on that and play on 3DS. It was like 300 yen anyway.

I gave up on DQVII 30 hours in because it kept making me fall asleep. Super boring and bland game. I love DQVIII though, so I have already got it preordered.

I am currently playing Bravely Second, and it is...OK. I am a bit disappointed it is so close to Bravely Default in nearly every aspect (recycled stuff all over the place), but I like Yuu and Magnolia so I will keep playing. (I am 12 hours in.)

BS is already only 3,500 yen on Amazon, and I think I saw it cheaper at Enterking. I may hold off because of that and how they made the digital version of the first cheaper after a while. I think I have about 6 hours of time put into the demo. In it, I honestly can't stand Yuu.

DQVII is so... Dragon Quest. It was just too much at another boss that I felt I would need to grind for (or have better chosen the skills of my team). I enjoyed myself, and feel okay leaving it alone.

Never played more than an hour of DQVIII. Only have played it in English. Can't wait to see a more frill free version (or I hope).

My Japanese 3DS should be arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to finally being able to update my RegionThree 3DS and give it back to my bro.

Shame I'll have to wait a bit until my wallet's HP recovers to get my Taiko and Digimon goodness, but it'll be worth the wait I think. I also want Rhythm Heaven but I'll wait until E3 to see if we get a timely localization announcement. If not I might just get that before Taiko because I love Rhythm Heaven. But I do want to get a rhythm game next because while I like the JRPGs I own, they are kind of mentally exhausting to play at times due to all that text.

It finally arrived! New and Japanese, just as I expected. It's also an original model but it was just $95 so I don't mind. I also really like the color. It's the Light Blue one and it's, uh... Fabulous. Might take some pics later but I'm not sure if pics can accurately reflect how fabulous it is.

I stumbled across the Kunio sale just before it ended, but I only got 熱血硬派くにおくんSpecial (the Renegade remake). I just finished it last night, and I really wish I had bought the rest. It's almost impossible to find information on the games anywhere online in English, so I didn't want to buy all of them without knowing how they were, but I regret it now. I just picked up the Famicom and GBA version of River City Ransom a few weeks ago, so I'll have to settle for those or buy the other games full price.

I was actually really confused because the demo for Nekketsu Kouha Kuniokun SP: Rantou Kyousoukyouku has the same icon as Nekketsu Kouha Kuniokun Special, and it looks very similar, so I wasn't sure if it was a different game at first or just an enhanced version (it's a new game on the same engine spread out over a larger area with a new story, lots more stuff to buy, extra polish, and partner characters, as far as I can tell. It also costs twice as much).

My reaction to checking out the Japanese eShop for the first time:

"...Wow I had no idea half of these games even existed."

Almost done setting up. Just waiting for it to finish charging which should happen soon. Then I'll create an NNID and I should be set.

Allright, just got my 3DSLL in today.

Quick question. Is it still possible to register on Club Nintendo?
Because when I follow the guide in the OP, I don't seem to get the options that I need to sign up.

Would not being able to link it with my eshop account give me any grief?

Ah, good to know I don't have to worry about just making an eshop account and not having it linked up to Club Nintendo.
For whatever reason I thought that the new rewards program that supposed to take its place might make use of the same system and somehow upgrade it.

Anyway, bought a bunch of Kunio Kun games already from the eshop. :)
Also ordered Gaist Crusher as I had no idea the game even existed, not to mention it was made by Treasure of all people!
Also bought a code for Club Nintendo Picross Plus! :D
Oh and not to mention Elevator Action! Had no idea that was even out on VC. One of my favourite games of all time.

Okay, the $95 I paid for this 3DS was definitely well spent. Not for the games. Not for the themes. For the ability to replace the Activity Log icon with one featuring Yoshi. $95. Well. Spent.

...No but seriously being able to update games and stuff is awesome. It will also be nice to eventually buy certain games digitally, which is one of the things you miss out with RegionThree/Four. It's also super duper nice to be able to just boot up games the normal way. So much more convenient than the workarounds.

...Badges are the shit tho

Pleased to see that after the new nintendo direct that happy home designer is a physical release, especially because amiibo card investment will be heavy for that one.

Seems series 1 will have 100 cards in the set and you only get 3 cards in a booster pack for 300 yen. Man that's going to be a hard work getting a full set. No idea how many packs a case will contain but i'm guessing i'll be buying a lot of boxes like back in the e-reader days hehe.

Also famicom remix on 3ds finally gets to Japan i was seriously thinking that it was never going to come out. Curious to see if they added anything extra to it compared to the Western version as thats quite a few months between the release of that and Japan.

Stoked that there's a new chibi robo game coming and also a physical release as well, what a great time to be a Japanese 3DS gamer :)

The blind packs will be a pain. I dont usually sell or trade stuff so it will be difficult to get rid of the duplicates (I most likely getting a lot of those lol) and it's in japanese so double the difficulty.

I wonder if they will go with some sort of coin/token for other franchise.

Also the ac hh cover plate looks interesting.

Impotaku

Yeah its going to be doubles ahoy lol, just one of the things you kind of have to deal with in card game stuff. Only other way is holding out and looking on yahoo auctions after a few months as people will no doubt be selling complete sets on there at some point.

Before i go all in i want to see how hard they are going to be to buy on Amazon Japan, have a feeling because they are related to amiibo the scalpers are going to be all over them. Weither they are as hard to get as youkai medals remains to be seen, it will depend on how much they are a box and how many packs you get in them as i don't want to be spending a fortune per box just to complete one series of a set.

Will keep an eye out for when the preorders go up.

I was thinking, the most surprising thing about the whole ac in this direct is the price of the new ac game. I was expecting it to be a budget title.

Impotaku

I was convinced it would be download only and the cards would be used to get the download link for the software like the AR prepaid cards did. Was really happy to see it been physical as there would be no way in hell i'd blow that much on amiibo cards knowing the game that uses them could be gone one day thanks to been digital.

I have a feeling there's quite a bit in the game, i have barely seen anything of it yet just a few clips and they didn't go too deep into it. I remain optimistic.

Even achh is download only, it is an amiibo. I should work on the next ac game (wii u perhaps).

I guess the new achh game might have more stuff in it considering nintendo's releasing a new 3dsxl LE and a 3ds cover plate. Also I guess 4k might sorta be a budget title when the acnl retails for 5k.

New Animal Crossing N3DSLL coming! With conversion rate it comes out to about 175 USD. Debating it as since there's no game coming, no way this comes to the West.

The only thing stopping me is I've got xenoblade plates coming and I'm horrified of trying to go through a system transfer in Japanese.

I'll probably get it, I'm still using my old 3ds LL. Would my memory card still work?

I feel like there would be some hassle moving everything over. :s

So many games coming out soon.. Not enough money, ughhhh. Gonna try to get Stella Glow & Atelier Rorona

N3DS uses micro-SD. If your 3DS uses a micro-SD with an SD adapter, they you can use the old one, otherwise you'll need a new micro-SD card.

Does anyone know how long Tenso holds non-consolidated items in their warehouse?

I've had a faceplate sitting there for about a month now, but I don't wanna send it out until either Rhythm Tengoku or Dragon Ball Extreme Butoden releases first.
I'm actually in the same boat (have the Xenoblade and Splatoon plates waiting there) and want to consolidate with Rhythm Tengoku. My estimated delivery date from Amazon.JP is one day before the 30 day window expires (note that there is a 30 day window for consolidation, and a 60 day window for storing packages at the warehouse). I sent them an email to see if it was OK to miss the window by a day or two, I'll report back in with what they say.

Other than that, does anyone know if the Animal Crossing cover plate has gone up for preorder on Amazon.JP yet? I just realized there's a Google Doc for that, isn't there? Probably should've checked that first! SORRY KUBUS!

EDIT: D'oh, I checked, it's not on there.

Downloading Digimon World 3DS for a cost of 2980 yen... or $24.17 apparently. Wait, shouldn't it be more like $30-something? If somebody could please explain this to me then that would be great.

The exchange rate right now is about 125 yen to one US dollar. Good for you guys in the US, bad for us over here.

Weirdly not seen anything up so far, even some of the other games that were announced at the same time but come out later than this one are already up on Amazon but it seems happy home designer isn't ready to go up or the cover plate or cards.

Anyone that wants to do a quick check themselves just paste
どうぶつの森 ハッピーホームデザイナー

Into Amazon and you'll quickly be able to see.

Anyone know where I can see how import friendly a game is?

That is, a list where I can see how much Japanese knowledge is required to have fun with a game.

There's nothing like that to my knowledge. There's a list on gaijingamers that keeps track of which games have English (not many) or include furigana along with kanji (not many, outside of Level 5 and some Nintendo-published games). It's not updated super often, and it doesn't really address whether you can easily enjoy it without reading ability.

If you have concerns about a specific game or want some general recommendations you could always ask in this thread.

For some reason the monster hunter village game which was shown on the last direct is in amazon jp already and its release date is Sept 10 while ac hhd's supposed to be release July 10 and afaik it's not in amazon jp yet. I hope they don't region lock the amiibo card.

This is not a list but I use youtube, it's great for checking out how much japanese comprehension you actually need in order to play a game. What I do is go to let's say amazon.co.jp or maybe the eshop, I copy the title and paste it on youtube search.

For example ゼルダの伝説 神々のトライフォース2 (this is zelda lttp2 or albw). I usually get some gameplay videos. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnAeBHiAzhQ

So, I bought smash 4 last october on eshop using my US credit card. It has since expired, and I tried to add my newest one (same number, new expiration) and the card got declined. Did japanese eshop stop allowing foreign credit cards? (I know the card works, I literally just used it.) Or is this possibly my bank declining it?

Your bank:-(

You didn't choose to save your credit card details on your 3DS did you? If you did it might be remembering the old expiry date.

I have seen the option come up but i have never used it myself when using my card on it, my Japanese isn't that great but it might be somewhere in the eshop settings if you ended up saving it on there.

If thats not the case theen yeah your bank has done something.
