I'd argue it's the first truly great game of the generation ( that's not a remaster) though I know some would give that title to Bloodborne.

They deserve every success, the game is a massive achievement for CDPR.

I didnt check for accuracy but Ive seen others citing Skyrim did 7 million and Mass Effect 3 did 3.5 million in their first month. So still a long way from Skyrim but, surprisingly, well above Mass Effect 3s first month.

Yeah googled around myself and got the impression that Skyrim did over 8 in its first 2 weeks. Its over 20 million now though. Witcher 3 wont reach 20, but realistically, i hope it can get 10-12 million total when everything is said and done. Witcher 3 didnt recieve the same market push that Skyrim did, but I think word of mouth and the fantastic reception can give the sales a long tail.

I'd agree. It's the first great multi-plat game of the generation. Only took two years before our next gen consoles started giving us experiences we couldn't play previously.

I don't know about shareholders, but Marcin and the management

1) already have enough money that they probably do not know what to do with it
2) aren't doing this for the money, they value their independence too much

While this is true,

a) They've been selling their stock
b) They dissolved their shareholder alliance (which required them to vote the same way etc)
c) Co-founder Kicinski (brother of the CEO) lost interest in games and is now innovating elsewhere. Recently he invested (started?) in openbooks.com which is like GOG for books.

Ok, so what does all this mean? Are they going to sell out? Are they a possible target for aquisition ? Like if say Actard or Bethesda decided to buy them, could they go to warsaw stock exchange and get them ?

CDPR > Bioware now.

Bioware has lost their RPG touch ever since getting bought by EA and trying to make their own uninspiring D&D world. A shame.

With zero DRM too. If you make a good game, you'll move units. There's never an excuse for DRM. Well deserved, TW3 set a benchmark in a couple of areas that all future RPGs will now be held to.

I'd argue Witcher 1 is even better than 2 so I love the fact that Witcher 3 feels more like a sequel to the first game. Witcher 2 is still necessary to play though as it sets 3 up so well.

Yeah, I've heard that argued, and can definitely see where people are coming from. Witcher 1 really is a fantastic role-playing, does choice so well, but I found the combat downright bizarre lol. I should have modded the game, but I didn't know about them at the time. I will agree though, W3 does feel like the W1 in some ways. I remember when I was in the swamps of Velen, felt like I was playing The Witcher 1 with insane graphics lol.

Witcher 1 and 2 are both brilliant in different ways.

Witcher 1 should be viewed as a game changing game for RPGs.

Sure they could, but I don't think they'd let them buy it unless it was a hostile takeover.

Congrats CDPR! Well deserved.
Now please focus every single resource on making Cyberpunk the best game you can make. You owe it to yourselves and the fans. :)

I hear it's a pretty good looking game, too.

Most beautiful game of all time imo on PC. I realize thats not true from a technical standpoint but the overall art and image are just astonishing. Even after over 50 hours with this game I find myself seeing vistas that just blow me away constantly

I see CD Projekt Red as the most talented AAA wrpg developer of the last few years and this game seems to prove the point. They aren't perfect just like everyone else as they aren't up to par with From Software in making top tier action combat system. However, they are more talented than Bethesda and Bioware in the AAA space (and overall among western rpg developers).

Obsidian aren't even close to being as good in terms of tech while Bioware and Bethesda can't match their writing or artists. The indies wrpg studio don't have the money of infrastructure in place to compete in the AAA space. CDPR can actually put out an AAA caliber game with great tech / graphics, sporting an excellent art style and solid writing and storyline. It's only on the gameplay side of things that they still need to improve, but so must every wrpg developer out there lol.

Now, let's hope that they aren't corrupted with this huge influx of money as it can be easy to lose sight of your values. Inject that money into Cyberpunk 2077 to make it a GOAT caliber science-fiction wrpg. :]

Do bundles/promotions get accounted in the total? I got my copy through purchasing a 970 card. I'm really happy for them. They deserve every single one of those sales.

Don't forget, we also have DLC coming that will open up entire new zones. I still can't get over the content that is here for $60. The first game this gen that I can honestly say I would happily have paid more for.

My PS4 has been quite busy with this, Helldivers and Bloodborne.

All great games and GOTY contenders, though my personal GOTY is Bloodborne :)

2015 was really good and MGS5 will make it even better.

Wow this game shoould have been fella profitable, like, crazy profitable, due to Poland costs. EA am cry.

I am sure people at EA crie themselves to sleep after posting record fiscal year in terms of profits.

Inquisition struggled to even hit the NPD charts.

Not saying Inqusition was anywhere as succesful as W3 but it released during holiday period. You need far far higher numbers during Q4 to hit NPD top ten.

Thanks for the info. So the bolded is possible ? That is kinda scary. I really hope CDP stays independent forever.

I said this in the review thread but Witcher 3 is the first game in a long while where the actual game managed to exceed the prerelease hype for me. Well deserved.

Już w dniu premiery zwróciły nam się całe poniesione przez trzy lata nakłady na produkcję - cieszy się Adam Kiciński, prezes CD Projektu.

All the production costs spent over the last 3 years were covered on day 1 - Adam Kicinski, CDPR CEO.

Yes - hostile takeover means that EA/Bethesda could go to shareholders and buy stock from them instead of coming to an agreement with the company management.

Edit: apologies for double post.

Hmmm sounds like it is time to buy back those shares then!
Dammit I am angry at myself for not investing in them few years ago.

Amazing news! Congratulations and best of luck to them.

Do I read this right? It's 15 million $ in a day? Awesome if so.

This has never bothered me.
Me neither. I really like it actually. A few times when there is dialog and you cant hear the wind it looks a bit funny but it looks fantastic looking out over the wilderness and seeing all the trees moving. Havn't played a game ever that acually made me feel relaxed by just cantering on the horse and looking at the vistas.

CDPR deserves it. All three Witcher games have been amazing, but Wild Hunt is clearly the pinnacle of the series.
