Making threads about what developers retweet is fun!

The IGN announcement makes it seem like it will be a new title, not DLC.

We can't automatically assume those two things are related though

Somehow can't imagine that Nintendo could foot a moneyhat equivalent to releasing the game on PS4, the Bone and PC as well the Wii U.

You obviously don't understand how this works at all.

If that's the case, it's gotta be Metroid. Retro is teasing more DK stuff and Nintendo knows its fans want Metroid.

They gave Other M to Team Ninja, it would make sense to give Metroid to Platinum after Bayonetta 2.

I'm betting that's it. It can't be StarFox, IGN said unannounced game that will make us cry. It's Metroid.

Wow, no, please no. As much as I love Platinum´s games their games are always action based and fast paced, whereas Metroid is much slower and needs this slow pace for careful exploration and ambientation. One of the best things of Metroidis it´s attention to detail, every room is polished with little things that give it personality and require you to look carefully to appreciate them, with Platinum it would be like "Want to explore this amazing setting? Never mind here comes a gigantic boss destroying everything, fight it!". It would be so different I prefer they did a totally new IP based on a similar setting than make Metroid what it´s not.

Huh? That would take a 3rd party publisher to do multiplatform. If you want an exclusive Sony, MS or Nintendo title from Platinum, then Sony, MS or Nintendo have to be the one to foot the bill for their platform. Nintendo already foots the bill for Fatal Frame because no one else wanted to and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo asked Platinum to do more games for them in the future despite if they flop or not.

Great news that Nintendo is continuing to fund these games, not sure Platinuum would be able to continue without it. Really looking forward to see what it is!

How big is platinum anyway?

w101
bayo2
scalebound
korra
...

Korra was a relatively quickly made game, as far as I know (and I think the development staff was smaller than the average Platinum game's). Microsoft is apparently handling the "grunt work" for Scalebound, so Platinum likely doesn't have to devote a ton of their people to that.

171 employees, according to Wikipedia (as of July 2014). At one point they were working on Revengeance, W101 and Bayonetta 2 simultaneously. I think they must have an amazing management team. Platinum's greatest strength (in business terms, at least) seems to be that they can be relied upon to sign contracts and deliver games without fail, no sign of delays or setbacks. Even if the game ends up bombing, Platinum obviously holds up their end of the contract to the letter.

(Platinum's continued existence, in spite of their consistently poor sales figures, is one of those things I try not to think too hard about just in case I accidentally jinx it :p)

He just retweeted a tweet, and that's proof for the game being Nintendo exclusive? Wow.

He retweets everything, and besides, how do we know the IGN Platinum game is being directed by Hashimoto? It might be Saito or anyone else... This is really not thread worthy.

So JP just tweeted this..

https://twitter.com/PG_jp/status/608515866439733248?s=09

"I retweeted Elon Musk once. Our next game is going to be on the Tesla car nav. Quick, tell the bloggers! retweeted Elon Musk once. Our next game is going to be on the Tesla car nav. Quick, tell the bloggers!"

I saw that and retweeted it. I endorse it :p

I think things get really crazy around this time of year, and other developers like Soraya Saga who have more of a pattern with retweeting Directs when they're game is going to show up in it and as such leads to this line of thinking for some. It's not always correct, some like Brain Davis of Next Level Games have retweeted Directs and E3 stuff plenty of times but we've yet to see a new Next Level Game game show up. He's just a really huge fan of Directs and Nintendo in general.

It's because of the pattern many have seen with developers retweeting Nintendo things like Directs and E3 when they're game is going to show up in it.

I would not be surprised if Platinums next game is a Wii U exclusive, since the "extendend gameplay look" on the ign stream is what, 2-3 hours after the Nintendo direct. But that is really all that you could link to an exclusive.

Anyway, exclusive to whatever platform or multi, it´s a new Platinum game and that is all i ever want.

The threads name is "... might be for ...", so ... where is the proof you mentioned?

And the game may very well be for a Nintendo system, IGNs presentation shortly after the Nintendo event could mean that Nintendo continues with the strange habit of announcing games after their presentation, and not in it. See Wonderful 101 2 years ago, last year Devil's Third.

Thing is for Platinum games, the publisher who pays for the development is the important thing. If Sony wants a game from them and pays, like MS for Scalebound and Nintendo for W101/Bayonetta, then it's a go.

So, should we debunk the rumor, now?

""I retweeted Elon Musk once. Our next game is going to be on the Tesla car nav. Quick, tell the bloggers! retweeted Elon Musk once. Our next game is going to be on the Tesla car nav. Quick, tell the bloggers!" "

I'm very doubtful it's for Wii U...the timing is off.

It's reveal is quite a few hours after Nintendo's event (usually their late reveals are immediately after) and it's at the same time that Treehouse live is in full swing.

I can't see Nintendo making an announcement elsewhere that competes with their own stream.

If Platinum games has something in Nintendo's E3 digital event ....then I expect it be different from the IGN game. Bayonetta for Smash or a different game entirely.

This is a gameplay debut.. who knows when the trailer will be shown

Doesn't make sense. If the new Platinum game was exclusive to any system it would be revealed at their respective e3 conference. Why would IGN get to reveal it?

We want a next-gen Platinum game please ...
Oh ... i don't think Sony and MS are ready to show off the PS5 and the Xbox Next, or that Platinum already has devkits for them ...
But i think that the current-gen game Scalebound might be something for you! I really hope we see more of that in the MS conference ... that is gameplay, cut the CGI-trailer stuff.

I just don't see Nintendo having a gameplay debut on a stream that competes with their own one.

If the reveal was before Treehouse Live starts and directly after their Digital Event (as their reveals usually are) ...then I'd think it was for Wii U...

..but it's not ..so I doubt it is.

He's making fun of us XD

Yep. And reading any more into it isn't much better than people reading too much into the retweet. We'll know what it is when we know and can figure out what was and wasn't a hidden hint later, but anything presented so far is neither a confirmation or a denial.

But it's close to E3 time, so let the people speculate to their heart's content.

I'll ask Kamiya and get to the bottom of this.

Same thing happened last year with devil's third: The treehouse is 8 hours a day for 3 days it would be hardly competing

I feel like it'd be a Nintendo game for reasons not exclusive to just Hashimoto retweeting. I wouldn't hang onto that thread alone, moreso the comments Nintendo made in the past on working with them coupled with the timeframe.
