PSN 2.0: What should it be like? (Twitter #BetterPSN)

I hate how the psn don't always show all the game available for free in the PSN store for PS+ users. I think PSN 2.0 is needed!

Doubt Sony will ever try to actually upgrade the user interface to PSN. I wish they did tho.

PS3 PS Store interface was so glorious.

I'd definitely want my PS+ cloud saves to be uploaded continuously, or at least every 5-10 minutes or so.

I wouldn't mind a gifting option.

Perhaps some integration with G+ as well as facebook. I'd love to use hangouts for video chat. Perhaps some picture in picture options.

Make it easier to browse the store library for the love of everything.

Also, why can't I purchase PS Vita games through the PS4? They've toted that it's the "perfect companion" to the PS4, but I have to make all of my purchases either physically or directly through the Vita. It would be nice to be able to download the games to my PS4 and transfer them to the Vita. Then, I wouldn't have to worry as much about space on my memory card.

Sony as a company is not doing particularly well. So if the feature is going to cost money, it won't happen. Could see PSN limping along like this for years with minor feature upgrades every while. But I'm not holding my breath for a genuine 2.0 reboot.

Well Sony wants to focus more on the PlayStation side of things since thats generating more money for the company, I think Sony should invest in these things! PSN being more Steam-like with game trades, refunds, faster speeds for users with no caps on the users network. Would be a game changer for PlayStation

1) Two Factor Authentication - Goes without saying really. Every major e-vendor does it and Sony needs to do.
2) Make payment processing better - I had a period of about a month where I could not even get purchases to go through on PSN regardless of which method of payment I used. It would not go through with my credit card, so I switched to Paypal. It wouldn't even go through on Paypal, so I had to buy PS Store cards on Amazon and redeem them. Every contact I had with Sony was resulting with their 'shrugging their shoulders' about what was causing it. Until recently, it just started working again with my original card.
3) Better organized download list and ability to search list - For people like me who have bought a LOT on PSN, this is greatly helpful. Currently, I have to search manually through my download list. The only reason why this is great is for games and demos that have been delisted.

Increase the cloud save storage and organize the download list (specially for Vita).

They honestly should do it exactly like Xbox one. Mark those you wish to see with notifications for logging on as favorites. Simple to do and this way those with insane GAF friends list won't have the bottom screen with a notification every 10 seconds.

PS4 games already have hubs since launch. The only thing it doesn't have is "developer interaction like steam".

The current game hubs are bad and they need some that feature user content on the PS Store. Remember how OnLive allowed you to go to a game and see everyone playing it? We need soemthing like that on each game's live area and store page, but show: streams, videos, screenshots, and reviews.

Steam = Ctrl C + Ctrl V

Pretty much this...

Their online platform and infrastructure is so far behind in terms of features, stability and functionality that a good starting point would be to take a look at a competing platform (such as Steam) and attempt to level the playing field. In terms of specific features and functionality that should take priority if they were to ever get off their ass and initiate an overhaul:

- Server stability and performance improvements.

- Two factor authentication.

- Improved storefront design. (Wishlist, user reviews, logical organization, improved descriptions, etc.)

- Improved friend list functionality. (Notifications and messaging that work, invisible status, display name change.)

- Improved customer service. (Ability to issue a refund, better account recovery, etc.)

- Increased online storage space for cloud saves

Fuck, I could sit here listing bullet points all day. Honestly for a company of their stature, with such an enormous user base and market share, the fact that they have yet to address their online offering is shameful and just reeks of greed / mismanagement. Not to mention their user interface design, which is also an embarrassment.

But the SCE division is doing pretty well for the time being.
And they should and will invest in their services if they want it to continue doing so.
If they can do this weird shit like ps vue and ps now, they can upgrade their playstation network system as well.

In no particular order...

  1. Two factor authentication
  2. Remove the minimum funding amount for purchases
  3. Unlimited cloud storage for game saves
  4. PS Plus cloud storage for captures (a limit is acceptable here)
  5. Purchase and management of PS Vita downloads through PS4 store
  6. PS Plus adverts disabled when already subscribed
  7. Gifting of items
  8. Everyone wants faster speeds (even though I have no problems with it)
  9. Global game statistics (play time, etc.)

God I hope the twitter campaign takes off and someone from Sony finally acknowledges the sorry state that PSN is in.

Just throw it all away and start from the ground up

I'll just use the hashtag and tweet a link to this thread to the people mentioned in the OP. It's really not about a single feature PSN is missing anymore.

I'd be careful with adding too much to the list in the OP because some features would be nice but are hardly essential and the MAJOR issues get a bit lost in it. They need to fix everything that's broken (download list, download speeds, store tagging and categorization) before they begin to add new things. Maybe split it into two lists, things that need to be fixed and new feature requests?

This would be my suggestion;

MAJOR issues that need to be fixed asap:
Better/more CDN's with universal consistent speeds
Organized library and download lists
Unlimited cloud storage for saves with PS+
Up-to-date digital titles (fully patched when downloading post-launch)
Correctly tagged games in the store
Fix bug that prevents users from accessing the Store in certain situations, needing a reboot
Refined Store navigation, design, fluidity/polish and organization
Search function and filters for download history/library
Two-factor authentication

Additional Feature Requests:
Continous trophy syncing
Message system refinement
Better friends list functionality with nicknames, grouping by categories (games, relationship), and VIP tags tied to the notification system
Store wishlist, gifting system (cross-region gifting?)
Online/offline status
Universal game invites
Username changing along with a username history system in the user's profile page
Behind the scenes (less disruptive) maintenance
Direct developer/players interaction, statuses, in the game hubs
Custom avatars (purchasable or own uploaded via PS app)
Refund system similar to Steam's
Enhanced user profile page showing favorite games, screenshots/recordings, game wishlist, deeper activity sections (game statistics)
Refined activity feed (What's On section)
Cloud storage for screenshots, especially trophy screenshots (maybe recordings too if 30 sec or less?)
Enhanced Store game pages, include user reviews, make screenshots/videos standard for all titles
Account region change
Deeper social integration (G+, Facebook, Twitter...etc)
Improved account recovery process
Purchase and management of PS Vita downloads through the PS4 store

PS3 store was always slow as shit for me.

Yeah, but now it requires patches and literally takes 5 minutes to load whereas the original would take 1 minute.

PSN in general has seen a MAJOR downgrade ever since they started charging for online. I remember back in the PS3 days, PSN was solid even when GTA V launched. Downloads were slow because the PS3 has some garbage wifi chip but PSN was stable. The PS3's OS also worked better. The XMB was simple, easy to navigate and made sense. With the PS4, I get stuck in these stupid group chats and after owning the PS4 for a year, I have no idea how to leave them. I can't see when my friends go online like I could on the PS3 (WTF?!). I can't leave a comment like on the PS3 or have a cool looking banner like on the PSVita. PSN now goes down regularly and sometimes the store loads forever until I restart the console (no idea why). Perpetual loading screens are a common occurrence in all areas of the PS4's OS. And there are a million other little downgrades and annoying stuff that I am missing. I used to laugh at Xbox players who insulted PSN last gen (they were paying $60 for what I was getting free). Now, I wish PSN was like Xbox Live. I still can't forget the difference in response during the Lizard Squad attacks this past December.

Basically, I am now forced to pay for what I used to get for free and the service has become so much worse.

Each game hub has its own specific activity feed for all of this. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are looking for.

Edit: you meant PS store. I thought you were talking about the hub when you press down on a game in the OS. No I don't want that in the store imo.

SHARE NOTIFICATION:

I personally want a notification if someone uses SHARE in any way. Like "BLANK has shared something!" and following the notification takes you to its entry on the activity feed.

I love when people share stuff like videos and screenshots.

Better/more CDN's with universal consistent speeds that max out the client's throughput

lol. While obviously they need to improve things, what you are asking is impossible, literally.

How should I reword it? I want it to not lose its meaning.

I'm not sure the best way to word it, but as it is now you'd be implying that people with Google Fiber should be getting several hundred Mb/s, which no server is going to support when it's feeding a ton of people at once.

I'd say simply improving it to be competitive with their peers is reasonable enough.

Done.

the best way to increase cloud storage space is to partner up with a cloud storage solution. dropbox, google drive, box, etc. link the service, and add an auto-upload feature to that service. this would allow unlimited save uploads

alright this is just laughable

http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidewalt/2015/06/25/sony-playstation-shawn-layden-e3/

Forbes: Can you give me an example of something else you’ve changed for the better, but that hasn’t gotten as much attention?

Shawn Layden: Do you have a PS3? Did you try to buy something from the store? Did you realize when you were doing that, we gave you like five chances to stop your purchase? It was like, ‘Are you sure you want to buy this? Do you have enough money? Do you want to check your money? Did you ask your mom? Do you want this in your cart? Seriously, in your cart?’ Oh my god! It’s like sales prevention was the user experience for PS3. I think with PS4, we’ve really optimized that experience. You know, the download itself is actually faster, and one of the great features is that you can start to play before you’ve completed your download. How good is that? Not waiting forever to get that done? We spent a lot of time and a lot of work around enhancing that experience, which I think has been great for the platform and for users.

Mine is simpler:
1. Options for Plus subscribers to buy Plus games (w/out waiting for subs to run out)
2. Stop showing games I own as available for purchase in PSN store. For no good reason, i can buy the following games again:
a. PS3 Uncharted 1
b. PS Vita Tearaway

Hey guys, I rearranged the list and used bullet points instead and made it easier to read. I know some of you have identified the features by their number on the previous list, and I apologize for screwing that up a bit.

Give the option to MERGE ACCOUNTS.

I was one of the unlucky dipshits who were told to create a secondary account back in 2010 if I wanted a Master account. Now I have to manage a sub-account and a Master account, with different purchases and trophies and friend lists.
