I have mistakenly assumed that the purpose of the Kraken was to hunt down and destroy my opponents, not amuse them. This will take me some time to adjust

I just did about 1 hour of Ranked Battles and I think the patch fixed matchmaking. It would put people with the same rank together for about 90% of the time. I wasn't put in an all A+ lobby about 2 times. They also made getting new players in existing lobbies really fast. Reminds me of the Testfire lobbies. This is great.

And man those matches were crazy. For the most part, whoever took control of the zone first won (Arowana Mall and Urchin Underpass are the maps for this rotation).

Also was using the Splattershot Jr. for the entire hour. I feel like I upped my Splat Bomb game on Arowana Mall.
Cry Violet, for your inkbrush overlords has now come.

Booooo, my Splatfest shirt ended up with 3 Damage Ups as sub-abilities. I don't feel like they do anything with the weapons I use. Not worth re-rolling, though.

With no access to Cold Blooded during Splatfest, are we going to see an Echolocator-heavy meta during the event? No Ninja Squid either. Teams with constant Echolocator pressure is going to make life miserable for the other team.

God damn it, I didn't even think of this. Echolocator is going to be so dumb to deal with.

My Splattershot Jr. Custom laughs at your lack of Cold Blooded. Ha ha ha!

Hmmm. Guess I'll stick to Custom Splattershot Jr, Dual Squelcher and Dynamo Roller, then. :]

oh hell yeah

custom splatty jr here I come!

Played this for the first time at a friend's house Sunday.

I almost went out and bought a WiiU immediately after. What a blast! We were scheming ways we can use XBL's Party to talk during a game if I buy it, haha.

The extra pause at the beginning of a Stealth Jump is weird, apparently it's only .84 seconds but it's gonna take a while to get used to it

My Dual Squelcher and/or .96 Gal laughs at your Jr's puny range. :p

Seriously though, I could see a lot of scenarios where you could bring out one of those 5 weapons and basically rule the roost over teams of inexperienced teams that don't see it coming. Although they're less likely to be using Cold Blooded anyway. Against veterans, it would be a different story, of course. But I could see a decent Team Dog or Cat team just railroading a lesser team repeatedly using that tactic.

Every team is going to need at least one Echolocator user on their squad, just to be sure it doesn't potentially get out of hand. You'll probably have a lot of scenarios where both teams are regularly firing off echolocates. I don't know if it'll be a dramatic difference, but I would expect a slight bump in its usage.

I expect a lot of .96 Gals in particular this weekend, depending on the maps.

Actually, the purpose of the Kracken it to swim all the way to the enemy spawn point and then get splatted ass soon as you turn back into a squid kid.
At least according to some of the people I've played against.

Just got the game few hours ago.

Played a bit of the sp and mp. Rank 5 currently, really enjoying the game.

Love supporting with echolator.

I personally use it to either escape death I was just about to happen and take a few others around me, or swim up a wall painted in the other team's color to clear out a sniper perch(since I use the roller with it). Swimming at someone already firing at me is something I had stopped doing awhile ago.

Of course, with the nerf, one has to wonder it's place among the other specials...

I had the worst time playing in ranked yesterday especially on Saltspray Rig. The first game I played we got to the 3 second mark and lost in overtime because no one was using my beakons and allowed the enemy to overtake the back area and place their own beakons there. Another game my team spent most of their time inking up the center catwalks instead of trying to take the zone. Another one we could have had a chance to win when someone on our team fired off an inkstrike in the last 10 seconds, but he aimed too far to the north and completely missed the zone. I had never played games that infuriating before reaching B rank

Oh god do I feel your pain. There are times where I'm looking at the map during those last 30 seconds and its like "what are you doing! That's not the goal!"

I've been stuck floating around the B ranks for a while now... Its like some cruel purgatory

Oh my lord. I think Kraken just lost its place as my go to roller. Might have to start practicing with the Dynamo.

I made the switch to Gold Dynamo a few days ago. Kraken was never about getting splats, but it was always a good option to drive people out of an area. Now it's basically for fleeing only.

Pretty much done with the game at this point. It's just an overload of spamming rollers and chargers now and I don't see the fun anymore.

I don't get it? I mean what are you doing to counteract? Is this in ranked only? In turf wars I don't see this that much and consistently play well.

But back to your main point is when the meta moves in one direction it makes sense to change tact and find the foils to those plays.

It's still good for surprise kills on enemy territory, specially with squid speed up. It was never a special for tanking kills, at least on higher skill levels.

I brought my Wii U to work to play Splatoon. You guys think I can use my phone as a hotspot to play online instead of using the company wifi?

*Yes.. I know I'm an addict. I don't care lol*

I literally had a match on Port Mackerel where my entire fucking team sat back and had me defend/take over both zones EVERY SINGLE TIME while defending against the entire enemy team.

I did it though and got my highest ever K/D with 24/6 (.52Gal), but holy fuck I don't need this right now ranked. I'm trying to hit B+/A- by the end of today.

... I think I just ended up in a Ranked Lobby with Azure J lmao

Wait really? Which match was that?

I was having an ASS time earlier.

I'll use the Kraken mostly to intimidate (if I know I can't get to the opponent), force myself to a specific point in the map or at least push the opposing team back so hopefully team covers the rest of the map.

I just think Carbon outclasses it for stealth roller now, with Inkzooka being the 'better' special and Dynamo is better for defensive holding. I always saw more Dynamo at A- anyway, so I'm sure this just solidifies it for people trying to choose.

You're not a true addict until you buy a second Wii U so you can have local online multiplayer.

I got to be honest, playing against Japanese connections is totally hampering my enjoyment of this game. I thought my 'just deal with it' mentality would be enough to deal with the occasional bs, but I find myself more unwilling to just play this game unless I'm joining gaf lobbies. I mean, the netcode is pretty amazing, but even that is not enough to hide the fact that some connections are just not meant to be. I hope the August update will give us some regional matchmaking options.

Oh nice that you can do that my office won't let me lol

I only bring it every once in awhile. Plus I work in digital marketing. So it's very laid back. We have a pool table and ping pong table in the middle of our office lol.

I'm older (33) and most of my friends don't live near me. My fiance won't play Splatoon lol. So there isn't any need for local online multiplayer.

Oh I meant the kraken itself, the Krak-on is still really good at ranked, but it depends on a team that actually know how to use beacons :p

I have the Kraken on the Custom E-liter, either I use it as a panic button when I'm being ambushed or I hide deep inside the enemy team's territory when I have nothing better to do and there's a chance for a double/triple kill. I try to make sure that the first target barely has time to react

oh, and it works as a "siege breaker" too

e: come to think of it, we already had a few Kraken duels lol

Yeah, it wouldn't make any sense for me to do so either, but I know a couple of Gaffers have so they can play with their families.

I can understand and relate to this so much. Almost lost a ranked match just now to some JPN player bullet sponging only to spontaneously explode later on after mowing down a bunch of allies every time he showed up.

Edit: Just lost actually. =/
