I just watched that and it summed up what I realised about Destiny long ago, that it's a virtual slot machine. I remember the John Hopson guy who was mentioned in the video having a talk at GDC earlier in the year and discussing how Bungie used behavioural psychology to keep players coming back to the game time and time again, it actually brought a smile to my face because it confirmed what I had suspected for a long time about the design choices in this game.

Bungie Used Behavioral Psychology to Make Destiny Appealing

The part in the video about a purposeful lack of content in the game made me laugh out loud because friends of mine have actually been suspecting that Bungie was doing that to hook people more, and it was nice to see someone who had the same thought cross his mind.

With the ridiculous pricing of TTK in the UK(£40 LOL!) I'll probably jump off the Destiny train soon, but the whole psychological experiment that Bungie has going on has caught my attention. I want to see how far they can push players before they completely snap, and by snap I don't mean complain about a few emotes for awhile and then happily go back to playing the game within a couple of weeks, I mean stop playing the game completely.

Best take my deck chair and popcorn out because this is going to a glorious ride.
No doubt some of those elements are found in the game. However, I have a very hard time believing that Bungie is capable of following a master plan to create great gameplay and hang it off of some middling structure. Very few examples over that past year suggest a group with that kind of cohesive vision.

Occam's Razor: Troubled development. Still picking up the pieces.

Any xboners wanna play trials?

I don't have good weapons but I'm good at PvP in general.

I'm not really looking to go flawless, this is more of a chill session. I just want enough wins to get the highest package from the Osirus dude (7 wins)

My gr8 is BluePhazon1337

Yes, one would think if they were capable enough to add psychologically additive elements they'd have spent more time making an engaging and cohesive story and no repetitive missions.

That's exactly what they did though. They have great receptive gameplay tied to, at the most, a middling structure of a game.

I mean, I have a hard time disagreeing with the video. The only thing I'd disagree is that there not enough feedback loops in HoW in order to keep me interested in playing thanks to gun smithing and the lack of needing the new weapons(Which are average at best).

Trials provided that feedback loop for a while, but I'm not the type who likes to do alot of PvP.

Has everyone gotten their Nepal shirts? I'm still waiting for mine... or even any updates on the status of my order.

Still waiting for email, they said they will ship them in the order they were purchased.

Also, people in countries outside the US will obviously get them later.

My shirt arrived last Wednesday. Took about a week of shipping after the email (The Netherlands).

Nerf the range, and stability, then it's still viable but not rediculously over powered. It takes people out of combat for an extremely long time which is why it's a problem.

Just let Xur sell it so everyone has it, Then have a week of Iron Thorn and Trials of Thorn. Brilliant!

But it may be other things that keep people hooked. I've never played WoW, but I'm pretty sure people stuck around if their buddies did. The Destiny community is build up of one of the nicest group of people. I'm constantly trying to get into the action here just because I want to be part of this group. You feel left out when you don't.

It also maybe the "Bungie" effect too. The name alone gathers loyal fans and new ones. It's the same when you talk about those that only buy Apple products. They live and breathe Apple.

My crazy theory is people keep playing Destiny because it's fun.

It's why I keep playing. I pretty much have all the gear I want, so that's really not an issue. I find myself still playing because I enjoy it. Sure the pvp isn't really well balanced and can be frustrating at times, however I still enjoy it and keep coming back.

Played some of my first Crucible matches as a Titan today. I've always neglected that class.

  • Skating/skiing = super fun, a bit tricky, and fast as hell.
  • Should charge = hilarious when it works.
  • Lightning grenades = mini supers capable of decimating entire teams. Holy hell.

ahahahaha finally got the NM shader I wanted :D

Not a very productive day yesterday. Either the public events app was failing or something had changed in the sever, because most of the events would not appear. I did not experience PSN down, although I had to reset both routers and the homeplug adapters. I hope the heat is not affecting them...

I think I am finished with Eris Morn's mission, the last two ones looking like bounies (kill 25 enemies with arc damaga and something related to an urn, but today, same as last saturday I am hoping to be able to Run Vault of Glass in the evening.

All that time spent farming Hopscotch Pilgrim and I go right back to using TLW. It's a fantastic gun, but TLW is just goat for me, and it works extremely well with my play style
