I see what you're saying but it wasn't the same as what I suggested - I don't think QB's timing had anything to do with mS watching Uc4's.
Yes, I'm not disagreeing with you there. but mS has a lot, a lot, a lot of money. they've already invested in some interesting new IPs - scalebound, QB, their fighting series KI, so if they don't have something uncharted like of their own that they'd like to have then that's their problem; denying the competition the opportunity to play a game they were going to get in the first place isn't the right way to handle the offering, but maybe it's just like you said: the mS way.

And Sony way too.. People forget that Sony did the same in the past, like Haze (halo killer)

He is saying it is passion that brought them together? It shows passion the Microsoft is showing off an exclusive they paid to have on stage with their other exclusives? It's passion the their leader is checking that their biggest and most controversial exclusive deal is coming along good enough to get their money's worth?

This is nutty pr regret showing through. Stop talking. It's an awkward mistake and everyone got burned.

It all makes sense now. Who can resist such passion...

They're really in an awkward position and should just shut up about it. What's done is done.

That was seriously some of the biggest bullshit I have ever read. The PR is so strong it is almost a parody

What is it with this industry and its inability to tell the truth and having to bullshit its way around everything

People are not stupid, and the ones who care enough to make a noise about it know the nature of these deals. You decided to take a large sum of money and commercial support in return for the exclusivity of your product, that's a business deal. You're a business. Do what you think is best for your business.

Yeah ok... i totally believe you... specially this part...
We’re about growing our IP
By releasing first on a single platform!, by the time they do release it in other formats it will be D.O.A.

He bet on the wrong horse. If only they knew they could've showcase Tomb alongside Shenmue, Remake, Horizon, TLG and U4...

People called Romanes they go the house?
"Having been working with us on previous games in a lesser sense, they’ve been supportive. [However], for Rise of the Tomb Raider, they’ve just brought this passion and belief that has really enabled us to blow people away.

Passion = a large check, and a need to combat Uncharted 4, perhaps.

"It (passion) becomes the most important thing. We’re about growing our IP, this is a long-term decision.

Riiiight. That's why the deal is only exclusive for a year...

Best of luck with 'growing' the IP over a year later on PS4. (Not saying it'll be dead, but it'll definitely hurt.)

I understand the situation. Not the first time in gaming, not the last either. I'm not happy about it, but I'm not angry either since I have more than enough games to play and buy over the year.

But don't expect me to "feel" for MS. I don't have the amount of passion that MS had.

And Sony way too.. People forget that Sony did the same in the past, like Haze (halo killer)
well, that was different because it was a new IP. i said i don't have a problem with 3rd part exclusives, but tr has pretty much always been multiplatform. also, i didn't know sony paid ubi to have haze exclusive.

Square Enix CEO of the Americas and Europe Phil Rogers said:
"What we saw in Microsoft, which is probably not as well known, is that Microsoft’s willingness to throw a fuckload of money at Tomb Raider is amazing.

"Having been working with us on previous games in a lesser sense, they’ve been supportive. [However], for Rise of the Tomb Raider, they’ve just brought this huge truckload of money that has really enabled us to blow people away. People should feel that about Microsoft. Their monetary commitment to Tomb Raider is just amazing for us," Rogers said.

"To see Tomb Raider showcased with Halo, Forza and Gears and see Tomb Raider there, it’s amazing for us because we'd normally have to pay a shitload for that type of marketing."

"If you don’t know, Phil [Spencer] lords over Crystal [Dynamics] every time he’s in the Bay Area. Phil is the most welcomed guest, because he pays us, he’ll come talk to the team and tell them how to make the game for marketable and accessible, play the game and [Microsoft] is a very committed organization to our properties. It just makes it that much more exciting for us, as shareholders" Rogers said.

"It (money) becomes the most important thing. We’re about growing our IP, financially, this is a long-term decision for our annual profit margins. We’re going to take Tomb Raider up to the next level of profitability. With Microsoft’s belief, money and marketing muscle to help us deliver, we really think this is going to be an awesome game that people will enjoy for two years until we release the next biennial installment."

Fixed.

EDIT:

Side Note: Any time anyone in the industry uses the word 'passion', everything else in that paragraph is going to be bullshit.

I wonder if the long-standing 'under-performing' aspect SE touted for the reboot for so long was part of what made them accept the MS deal. As long as they made enough to cover theoretical PS4 losses (and still managed to get MS to accept the 'timed' aspect rather than a permanent deal), it makes sense from a suit's 'cover our butts yet still eventually get some PS4 sales' perspective.

the fact that they've said as much about this contract as they have is still baffling to me. alot of companies would just tip toe around the issue that its just a timed exclusive. "ya we're exclusive to xb1 this holiday! please understand"

Because they and we know its complete BULLSHIT. The fact of the matter is. Microsoft paid them to keep this game off the PS4 for a year and they accepted that deal.

sorry, but that is no different at all...Haze was to be multiplatform. I remember because I really wanted that game...

terribly overrated? it's got iirc an 84 on metacritic which is actually really good but not critically acclaimed. what would you say the game deserved?

I think it deserved a 7/10. Which means nothing, of course. It wasn't a bad game by any stretch, but certainly didn't live up to expectations for me.

Ugh, I'm sick of the PR speak. Microsoft threw a huge check in front of you and you took it. Was gonna try this on X1 but I'll just wait till next year.
