Benning. WTF. Stop trading away our second round draft picks while making lateral trades. Actually, just stop making trades altogether. Especially for players over 25 years old.

WTF Benning. I thought we didn't have the cap room to sign Baertschi? What are you doing taking on more salary, getting rid of a decent 3rd pair D prospect and a better draft pick?

Possible third jersey, it says Stadium series, but the third jersey was rumored to be a Rockies-like a month back. I'd guess it'd actually be lighter blue than that, as that's not the blue we use.

I wish. We're just further guaranteeing our mediocrity while downgrading draft picks.

A Pittsburgh 3rd could be close to a 4th while a Vancouver 2nd could be...who the fuck knows.

It's Buffalo's 3rd and Anaheim's 2nd, so they could, in theory be quite similar in value.

Oh..... well that changes things. My bad.

Benning has probably wanted Sutter for a while. The kid isn't really matching expectations, though, and he's already 26.

UGH. And Brandon Sutter is a UFA at end of the year who will most likely walk unless an upcoming extension was part of this trade?

I rather have Mike Gillis.

EDIT - OK that last statement was just crazy.

This trade made no sense. We gave up more players and the higher draft pick for a more expensive player with one year left on his contract.

I feel like we gave up on Bonino and Clendening too soon. If the Pens needed to shed salary then we should've gotten a better return. Did we really need to fill that 2C spot?

Luongo, Schneider, Kesler, Bieksa, Lack = Markstrom, Horvat, Sbisa, Sutter, Dorsett, McCann, 3rd, 3rd, 7th, retained salary on Luongo.

Ok, but it hasn't been that long since Benning was

Hired three weeks apart last spring, not sure the body of work as GM for Jim Benning (Van) vs. Brad Treliving (Cgy) could be more different.

oh, well if you put it like that...

This is downgrading from a 2C to a 3C who's more of a grinder / defensive player. Bo Horvat is our new 2C until Willie fucks it up and plays veterans over rookies.

It's a bit funny though as the player most described to be like Kesler, or who Kesler was most described like, was Jordan Staal. Sutter was part of the Staal trade. Both PIT and VAN thought they could fill the hole of both players via a subpar grinder C. At least PIT got Derrick Poulliot out of that trade, we got Jared McCann.

A little perspective on the Canucks' moves in the past year:

Horvat and McCann are terrific additions. The rest, however...

Edit: Beaten by calder.

kind of sad to see Sutter go, he was great last season and basically got the pens into the playoffs. On the other hand, I like Bonino and I think he will fit in well with the Pens. Also bringing in Fehr is a good move, makes up for losing Sutter on the PK.

Jesus, that is ugly. That Bonino trade makes 0 sense whatsoever.

this has been a good offseason.

Pens now have 11 forwards, 8 D with 1.7mil left.

Not sure if we do anything else or just have scott wilson play on the 4th line

Luongo was seen as untradable, Sutter is a good addition, Bieksa is old and ineffective.

The sore spots for me are Schneider (love Horvat, but Gillis should have been able to get more in return) and Lack (should have been kept unless he could get a higher return).

We will even without the Olympic cash influx, since we finally got ownership a couple of years ago. They're actually shopping naming rights around right now to kick things off. If we get the bid, then it's going to be bananas. As far as I'm concerned, they should keep The Peristyle and rebuild the rest from the ground up. The new Coliseum and the new University Village are going to be mind blowing.

The things that really need work are the swim stadium and sports arena. They might as well not exist as it stands right now.

Edit: Pikma, that was quite a long ban for your heinous crime

Edit II: Wow, Dragon Quest XI for PS4, 3DS, and NX. Shockingly, an announcement that makes everyone happy! (Sorry Xdrones)

I've seen some of the rumored designs. A couple of them modernism the Peristyle in beautiful ways. I wonder if the city will use this as a chance to improve the Coliseum and the Rose Bowl? Both need it badly. I know if we get the bid the metro is extending further than already planned.

I can see the city helping out with the Coliseum project if this actually happens. The Rose Bowl just got a big, expensive facelift though, so I'm not sure if there would be too much money going to Pasadena. They'd be better off spending on infrastructure to get people to and from the Rose Bowl. Right now, to get there from downtown, you have to take a bus, then a subway line, then another bus, then a specific shuttle. Not going to work.
