K-Pop Fanboy/Fangirl |OT6| Thank You for Love

This week...

AOA fans need to step up their game

Seriously. I only know of Seolhyun due to Running Man. I know there's also a ChoA in the group but Primary's video was dark so I couldn't appreciate.

And speaking as a very recent EXID fan, like I literally became a fan when Showtime started, it's kinda interesting to see how the group is compared to others. You can potentially argue that Pharkil's fancam had a hand in this, but tbh I didn't really give a rats ass about that fancam last year. I saw Hani's name get passed around, but I still didn't care, even when Crime Scene 2 started, I was only a fan of Hani.

But all it took was Hani to sway me and next thing you know I'm a huge fan of the group. I think all AOA needs is a small push to relevancy and they'll be in my radar as well.

Speaking of EXID, Showtime ep 3... does anybody have any contacts with Yedang? Solji really looks like a fun night out and this needs to happen ASAP.

I saw the teasers. TBH, it's no surprise that bass and piano seemed to be the best of the 4 because it takes the least amount of finesse to play those. The real tell of a professional musician is not how well they play lead/solo parts, but how well they can play rhythm.

The least amount of finesse? Bruh, are you fncking kidding me right now? Are you telling me this shit is easy for any bassists out there?

You could argue that Jaco Pastorious and Victor Wooten are freaks of nature, but to think you don't need "finesse" to play that music... get the fnck out of here man.

I will agree that rhythm is the real tell of a good musician, but you're very wrong on everything else.

And yes, I'm a bass player.

I started out as a bass player for my first 4 years of playing in bands. I owned 4 basses before I bought my first guitar and drum set. I'm telling you, piano and bass take WAY less finesse than guitar and drums. I play guitar, drums and bass... and I have played piano before like anyone else. I can get someone who has never played bass before in their life playing bass in a show on stage in 3 months. Wouldn't try that with guitar, and REALLY wouldn't try that with drums. Drums are ALL finesse, really.

These examples you are showing are masters of their instrument, playing bass in an creative way that transcends the intended scope of the instrument. Every bass player on Earth has heard Portrait of Tracy (just going to guess that's what you linked, or "Classical Thump').

Yes, it takes finesse to play anything at a high level. But, at a bottom level? Come on, dude, You know better than that. I'm not saying bass takes no finesse, but at a normal level, playing the instrument as intended by design, it takes way way way less finesse than guitar and drums. There is always room for top for masters, but we're talking just average play here.

EDIT: I clicked the link. You picked two better performances than the ones I predicted, IMO.

In my mind, Wonder Girls 3.0/4.0 disbanded after the gloriousness of Wonder World. Unlike most, I've never liked "Like This" and that album puts me to sleep. Won't speak on the other post-WW releases (apart from solos).

Since its release, part of me has felt Playback is a solid debut, while another part of me feels Steve Daly is somewhat doing a low-budget Primo with that beat. Eh.... Best Hayoung tho.
Hayoung > Soyun ≥ Woolim ≥ other one

I see what you're saying but I still disagree with parts of it. To me, playing at the bottom level means you're not playing anything beyond one 8th-notes and of course you can teach a monkey to play that in 3 weeks. It's not that hard.

But I think we have a different definition of finesse. I started playing trombone 10 years ago, that's the very first instrument I've ever played in my entire life, and it's the instrument that taught me what playing music really is. Everyone has it easy with all their buttons, reeds, keys, whathaveyou, but as trombonists... we've got a ridiculously finicky slide where if you're off a by milimeter, your note is already out of tune. That's kind of the harsh environment I learned music in.

To me at least, musical finesse isn't only about hitting the right notes, playing in time or rhythmically, but it's also about fully conveying the music to the audience... getting them to feel as if they're one with it, almost as if they're the ones playing it. That to me is musical finesse. When I watch Victor, Jaco, Satchmo, Mingus, the list goes on and on... when I watch these people play, I'm not sitting there in awe at their skill, I'm sitting there enjoying every single note to come out, while also simultaneously mentally transcribing it so I can play it myself and feel the music.

Just for kicks, watch this: T-Square - Praise. I've already learned the basic lick on guitar and it's fncking easy... a monkey could play it as well, but I'm nowhere close to hitting the feel of the song. That's the kind of finesse I'm talking about.
Also a fun fact, the grey-haired guitar player is Masahiro Ando, and if you're a huge Gran Turismo fan, he's the guy who composed Moon Over The Castle, which is actually originally called "Knight's Song" by that band until he gave it to Kaz.

Anyway, by playing it "as intended by design" of course anybody can do it, but then you really aren't playing the music imo. Like I said, a monkey could learn a simple bass lick, but it'll be completely different from Jaco or Victor even if they're playing the same bass lick.

And of course I'd pick better ones. I've been listening to jazz for the last 10 years... it's why I picked the trombone in middle school band lol. I wanted to play bass but of course there's no bass guitar in an symphony/orchestra/wind band, so I went with something cool and interesting looking. Turns out that was initially a mistake as it was fncking hard to learn the 'bone lol.

Absolutely.

But this clearly has traces of his signature sound and someone's signature sound is honestly fncking hard to imitate.

The fact that you're going all out to prove that I'm delulu for thinking this is a Primary track is a telling sign of who's the true delulu here.

Are you some kind of IU stan collecting evidence for her and suing me in the future for libel? LOL.

So claiming that IU MUST be acquainted with Primary because she guessed Hyukoh's identity on IC (FYI Zion.T came out before she did) does not sound delusional at all? IU "knew everything(lol) about Hyukoh" because she actually promoted the band on her instagram even before they met on IC.

A girl recognizes the voice of a singer from a band that she likes listening to? Shocker. She must know of and be acquainted with all the other folks the band worked with too! /s

So tell me, how do you know with complete certainty that neither Yonghwa nor Jounhyun (The two most likely composer friends that she got from, aside from some other producer in LOEN) are capable of producing the so called "signature" sound that you speak of from Black Sunglasses Dance Ver? Do you somehow know the entire range of their composition skills to say they are without a doubt incapable of producing anything even remotely similar to the "Primary signature sound" aka "big beat, downtempo, and house"?

And as I said above, somebody's signature sound is fncking hard to imitate. If you don't even wanna listen to Primary's tracks to see what I'm talking about, then why don't we sit down and talk music production instead of hotlinking every interaction IU has had with Jonghyun and Yonghwa?
I listened to the entirety of Zoo. I did not find it similar to that short demo of Black Sunglasses at all. I'm not about to spend an hour listening to all of Primary's tracks just to maybe find out what his "signature sound" is, thank you very much.

Lets make it clear. You were not merely claiming that "it sounds like something Primary would produce".
Finally saw last week's IC episode... I'm 99% sure IU's demo of "Black Sunglasses" was produced by Primary. There's no chance in hell somebody else wrote it... that sound is just pure classic Primary through and through. Of course she probably wouldn't admit it though since Primary and Myungsoo paired up, not to mention his plagiarism scandal that came from IC. Most likely, they'll just credit it to some rookie producer working for her agency... but that's if they pick the song of course.
In one fell swoop you're saying "This tune is ALMOST CERTAINLY to have been produced by my oppa/hyung and no one else can do it like he can, if they credit someone else they must be lying!!!!1111"

And you expect me to take you seriously,
dear Primary Stan? Are you collecting information to sue me for libel too? ;)

Oh, and nice reference to the
Taeyeon suing spree.
I didn't know this was somehow relevant to the discussion.

Lol I wanna bait this troll but nah, I've got better things to do.

Get that stick out of your ass bruh. I don't know why you're so intent on proving that some dipshit on the internet is wrong.

This isn't fncking AKP or Netizenbuzz, if you wanna argue stupid shit like GTFO and go over there instead.

You have a point. I mean these two people look exactly the same to me as well:

lol Hyogre "jokes" in 2015

Anyway, I Feel You sounds damn good. Loving the faux-retro Robert Palmer look. FNC's CEO said yesterday that AOA Black weren't dead so hopefully if this does well he'll consider giving them another shot. Pretty sure Wonder Girls went south before I got into kpop so this is pretty exciting.

Guy, I think Im addicted to Crayon Pop. Before this weekend I knew nothing about KPop. Please help. Choa, Soyul, Gummi, Ellin and Way. I love them all.

I dunno.. where's that Sunmi bass part, boo

^^^^ There is room for Sunmi's bass in the whole album. Also, in what I feel is quite an ironic turn of events, Sunmi seems to be the one in the spotlight (at least for the teaser)

They have popped up several times during the last month in my youtube subscriptions. Thought they were just another dance group. I'll keep an eye, they sound interesting.

RIP you having a taeyeon avatar though ;_; you'll be in my prayers.

Man, WG is totally gonna be a flop. /s

So good. I never had any doubts.
See now, the Wonder Girls can use "comeback".
You know, considering how many words English has taken from other languages it's always struck me as a bit odd that people don't understand other languages doing the same thing.
RIP you having a taeyeon avatar though ;_; you'll be in my prayers.
Haha you say that as if it's the first time I've had one.
