Final Fantasy XV Gamescom Schedule, features 17+ 2-hour Duscae LPs and an ATR

Last 4 years that were a hard time for Square Enix and they were doing a lot of desperate things with FF. FFXIV ARR is such a special case in every way that you can't use its promotion as some kind of example of what they'll do with any other game. And neither XIII-2 nor Type-0 PSP got 13-15 months of marketing, so I don't quite understand how you are trying to use them as an example that FFXV would get that much either. Heavensward was announced 9 months prior to release, but I don't remember seeing much of it until March. Again, none of these support a 13-15 month marketing cycle.

They've already spent a year on Episode Duscae. So what's your point.

It's certainly possible (and to me, preferable) to keep stuff in wraps until release but I feel FFXV doesn't have that luxury, with the weight of expectations it carries on its shoulders.

Oh yeah I'm sure they'll blow it out. I'm just hesitant until we get a release window. It may come out next year for all I know, but I'm not entirely hopeful. My expectations are set at mid to late 2017, so if I'm wrong it just means the game will be out sooner than that and joy to everyone.

I think the trailer will be available before ATR, but don't know when.
MS conferences or begining moment of the Gamescom is possibilities.
Any idea?

Hmmm kinda doubt the trailer will be available before the ATR. Where would it be shown?

In between the Duscae LPs.

Same thing happened with Jump Festa. They didn't debut that trailer at the ATR.

We're probably gonna get off-screen shots of the trailer first if they show it at the big screen and not on YouTube. With Jump Festa, we had the luxury of a live stream.

I don't think it will either. At Jump Festa, the trailer leaked early in English on accident on the French Square-Enix Youtube channel. I highly doubt they'll make that mistake again, especially considering it's a European event.

Well for now it'd just be best to assume that it'll be shown during the ATR. Which is fine by me, since the ATR will be at 9 am where I live, anyways.

In jump festa, the trailer was officially revealed in Niconico before ATR(althogh it was only 30minutes before ATR).
And tabata said it will contain a lot info, so they would give us time to digest.

Yeah this question is rised because I'm living in Japan. ATR will start at 8/6 01:00 JST and I have to spent a whole 8/5 day with restless feeling.

Can't wait until FFXV releases so that we can get some info on FFXVI

Man, you know, it's been a long fucking time since we had one of those "Oh holy shit, it's a new FF game!"-reveals.

Last time I remember was FFXIV, and I was crushed once I realized it was an online game. I mean, I like the game now and all, but I'm ready for a proper new FF to get excited about.

I'm pumped for XV, but I've been pumped for what is now 15 for almost 10 years.

Ok, you win. Square Enix, for whatever inexplicable reason, 2 years later decided to make the waterfalls on one side of Accordo freeze up. Someone make the "FFXV downgradeathon!?" thread.

Happy?

pls don't tip kotaku that falk said this
hey

that puzzling face
Jason I love you like a bro and stuff but Final Fantasy Composers did not, in fact, tease FFXII Remake :|

My point is that when Square Enix begins a proper marketing cycle for their games (note: like they've said they are now starting for FFXV), it USUALLY means the game is no more than 6-9 months (+/- a month or two) from its debut release. 13+ months of previews, trailers & shit is just excessive, especially after they've already been showing Episode Duscae for almost a year. To think that they might still take almost 15 months to market the full game?

Even the examples you gave had 6-11 months of marketing, so I don't understand how you are suggesting FFXV would have promotion for 13-15 months. Where, exactly, is the logic in that? Even based on your own "evidence", a far more likelier scenario is some May 2016 - July 2016 release, not September-November 2016.

Are you implying that the rest of the game will have any better level design? lol

This is the team that made Type-0...

There are many things you can expect the game to have. Level design is not one of them.

Type-0 was a PSP game with a relatively short development period & limited resources. This is a big mainline console FF that has been worked on (in its current form) for 3 or more years by now and Tabata's Type-0 team is only a part of the development team. It's not all that likely that FFXV will remain at the level of Type-0. Episode Duscae's single dungeon, what we've seen of cities and stuff like the Behemoth quest already show far more interesting scenarios & locales than anything in Type-0, even if the cave could've had a bit more variety in enemy types to make it a bit more interesting to go through, instead of the endless swarms of goblins.

I never said 13+ months. B)

Plus, doesn't the fact that FFXV is in the running for a GC award basically confirm that it's going to be released in less than a year? Since apparently to be in the running, the game has to be released before the next GC.

We're most likely gonna find out about the release window in 2 days anyway. And I think it's fair to say FFXV is a special case and we shouldn't necessarily be looking at past promotional campaigns as reference. The game has seen a very peculiar hype history after all already! ;)

Actually, yeah, right here, in the Gamescom 2015 Award Regulations page:

http://www.gamescom-cologne.com/red.../gb_gamescom_award_unternehmen_regularien.pdf

13.14 "The announced launch date for the game or product in the home market of the submitting company or in the German market must be in the year after the relevant gamescom (between gamescom 2015 and gamescom 2016)"

And Gamescom 2016, upon a quick Google search, is August 5-9 2016 (same date, though I guess this is tentative)

And Final Fantasy XV is clearly in the running for numerous Gamescom awards as seen right here:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/08/03/gamescom-2015-nominees-for-the-gamescom-awards-2015-announced

Under "Best Console Game Sony Playstation," "Best Console Game Microsoft Xbox," and "Best Role-Playing Game."

FFXV already is pretty much confirmed to be released before August? Based on this stuff alone.

No streams though I believe?

Though they announced those really lat minute for E3 so we'll see.

I don't think they have a conference like Microsoft or other big party publishers, so probably no. They didn't do a live stream at last year's gamescom.

I dunno, I just don't feel like they would be making such a big deal out this whole marketing thing starting if they then turned around and were all like "still over a year of waiting left! let's party! \o/"

Your Fall 2016 prediction doesn't leave all that many days for it to be less than 13 months. ;)

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but do you guys think there will be a chance they announce FF XII here?
TGS is more likely. Or Jump Festa. Depends how far away its release is. If it's some Q1 2016 release, then TGS. If it's some Summer 2016 or latter release, then Jump Festa. Apart from FFXV & a game like DQ Heroes that is very close to release, Gamescom is a bit more focused on the western games, so it's doubtful they'd announce new Japanese projects.

FFXV in August, DQXI in October, KH3 in Nov.

Wouldn't that be something...

It's kinda crazy that 3 mainline Dragon Quest games will probably have come out between the times Versus was announced to its release date.

So you're saying Summer (June-August) 2016 is a possibility, as that also correlates with the Gamescom Award Regulations?

Summer releases have happened pretty often in the past for mainline FFs in Japan, but it would be really surprising to see it happen in North America.
