Just made a pretty incredible score on amazon

RkBms5r.jpg

I'm trying to figure out just why it was so cheap, the item description says it is unopened... I see that a third party seller actually has one for sale around that price, so I think amazon's automated system made the price low to make it competitive. Anyway, my gain!

Dude that is insane, more than 50% off! Damn, jealous!

Ugh. Sorting and boxing up stuff is so mind numbing. I spent most of today breaking down sets or emptying all the random bins of crap I have from building over the last several months, and god I forgot how much time it took to sort everything back into the collective.

There is still so much to break down and sort along with random bins around to sort. It just seems endless, but I want to clean it all up before I keep going on the MOC.

I have a really bad tendency of making small piles of stuff while doing MOCs, or small proof of concept builds and then tossing them in a bin to sort later. The problem is it has ballooned to a massive size at this point.

EDIT: Brickset reviews the new Sith Infiltrator. Short version: best version of the ship yet, but a complete rip off for the price.

This is so true. Back in January I started breaking down a ton of sets to reduce the clutter. It has taken months but I'm down to having 10 - 15 sets out on display and pretty much everything else has been assimilated into the collective. The boxes are currently in the work/furnace room but I'm hoping to install a bathroom in that space in the fall, so they'll move into the office / exercise / LEGO room at that point (second pic).

Breaking everything down and sorting takes an unbelievable amount of time. This exercise has actually influenced my purchasing habits. If I know I'm not going to display a set I have a hard time justifying the purchase. I don't do nearly as much MOC work as you do so it seems wasteful to buy sets just to build, take apart & shove the minifigs into a box.

Instantly recognised it. I kind of want to pick one up myself. I haven't looked up much in the way of bootlego minifigures in a while. I wonder if they have classic style coloured lanterns now that there are legit classic green and yellow from sets.

Glad to know my pain is not in vain.

I have so many sets built and scattered about right now, and most were bought just for parts or on clearance.
Ugh, it never ends. I should probably just piece meal it over the next few months. I cleared a bit of space today, so maybe once I finish that bin it is a good pause point.

Finished Pet Shop. Great build, had to get use to the black pieces being closer to the dark grey color in the book. They must have changed that shortly after this released. It was a fun build and looks great on display. Like I said earlier the only thing i'm going to change is adding some jumper tiles on the sidewalk for figs. And so my modular shelf has begun.

I'm going to call the other closest TRU tomorrow and see if they have joker polybag available. Maybe the one I went to before wised up since Rocket Raccoon. I just want a couple, and then I will bricklink some of the pieces in different colors to make more.

I don't mind breaking down, but I hate sorting. When I break down I go straight into a few interim bins - bricks, plates, 'other normal (roof, tile etc), and 'other special'

Dumping those first three into the main collection is fairly quick. But I usually end up with a huge box of those small odd pieces that don't fit into a single category. For many of those I have separate little boxes with clip-on lids (so the kids don't knock e all over the floor). That really slows down progress.

When I acquire a lot of new sets that I get because on clearance or for the minifigs, I used to sort all the stuff out because a lot of same items were already grouped in bags. This of course is very slow, but more efficient (when done in bulk) I think since I don't have to go through them a second time (or more times).

Since my sorting was way behind I decided to do what you do and separate into several categories. This way I can sort and box them for a 2nd or 3rd pass later and get rid of all the set boxes and bags which take up a lot of space. I now have a 16 QT (15L) full of the small elements you find in the small bags in sets. The one with the 1x1 plates, technic pins, etc. I've already started filling a 2nd 16 QT box. That will be a PAIN to sort.

The multiple pass is very fast in the first pass. It pains me to see groups of same elements get dumped into a box that just mixes them up more. My OCD gets the better of me at times and I do end up sorting and connect elements to keep them together. I have not done a second pass yet. I have just recently adjusted my sorting method.

I've been toying with the idea of doing a time lapse of sorting those smaller elements to show my sorting method with very large quantity (very large to me). Would anyone be interested in seeing something like that?

These are my some of my first pass categories:

Plates
Modified plates
Tiles
Bricks
Modified bricks
Technic beams (was doing technic bricks too, but started tossing those in the basic brick bin)
Wheels and car related items (steering wheel, seats, etc)
Trans windows and canopies
Rare and uncommon parts
etc...

Yeah, I know that's a lot of categories. Before I'd separate plates and bricks to each unique size, so it's a lot fewer than it used to be.

After sorting dozens of sets (feels like I've passed 100),
- I find there are very few standard bricks in sets. My plates box fills up the fastest.
- I will never ever run out of technic pins. I have more than 2 sandwich bags full of just the black technic pins.
- 2x6 and 1x6 plates are a lot more common than 2x8 and 1x8 plates.

Not looking forward to sorting whenever I decide to get into MOCing. At least breaking down sets is rather simple and relaxing.

I find sorting relaxing, but yes the annoying part is it takes away from building. I actually like sorting more than taking a set apart.

I had the same for so long. Worst thing ever. Takes ages to sort because there are way more individual items because they are much smaller than other bricks/plates, and each item takes longer because there are more destination locations to sort them into

Ended up paying my son to do half

I wonder if they have classic style coloured lanterns now that there are legit classic green and yellow from sets.

Nothing like that exists at this time. Well, they have a set clone now so I guess that might be in line with what you're looking for, but it's just the Green Lantern,

Keep in mind that the Lantern figures were one of the very first Lego compatible clone minifigures released, so their quality is easily the weakest out of anything else I own from China. It's mainly a weaker plastic used in the hands and some flashing that I had to trim off them myself that set them apart. The modern minifigs are virtually indistinguishable in both quality and printing from a legit Lego figure now. Some are actually better.

Still, as far as a first run of unavailable minifigures from Lego, I have to hand it to whomever decided to make a cross section of various Lantern figures. Quite an odd choice by any stretch, but it really is a unique cross section of characters. They're not like the Iron Man or Batman forms that can simply be created and painted different colors over and over for different suits. That's also ingenious btw. They've done similar with Flash now. But the Lantern figures are all different variations on the same suit "skin" with chest symbols changed and 3 of them have unique face printings. In a weird way, it seems like these were a labor of love from someone who really did their research and made them unique and accurate.

For the Scooby Doo sets is there a cheap way to get Velma and Daphne? I have the awesome Mystery Machine but the other sets don't do much for me.

Dearest LEGO fans, if you are like me and were somewhat disappointed LEGO did not pick up the Peanuts license, all is not TOTALLY lost since Lite Brix has the license and they are starting to hit stores.

you can already see some on ebay

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=lite+brix+peanuts&_sacat=0

I will be getting some of these for the figures!

Good grief!

Very interesting that Lite Brix of all the brick companies got that license (or maybe only one that wanted it?).

I'm a sucker for LEGO compatible minifigs and will get some as well. I never got any of their sets because they were too pricey buy as a novelty item just for the minifigs. Didn't care for the light gimmick either.

My expectation is the quality will be between MegaBloks and K'Nex quality.

The heads better be compatible with LEGO minifigs! If they are, I'll probably grab more than Snoopy, Woodstock, Charlie Brown, and Lucy.

I'm more sad to see this than happy.

The only way to get Velma is the Mystery Mansion. So you can have a complete set of the team by just getting Mystery Machine and Mystery Mansion. Unfortunately for the "cheap" part the Mystery Mansion is 90 bucks. Sets are worth it though.

Later today Mystery Mansion, Sith Infiltrator, Jokerland, Mystery Plane and 3x Pirates freebie sets should be arriving from S@H. Excited to dig in!

The smaller sets are 12.99 so not too expensive. I think they will be worth getting for the figures, but that's just me. While they don't look like LEGO Minifigs they kinda remind me of some of LEGO's vintage figure attempts such as Fabuland (only not animal-themed). I'll try to view them that way... lol.

Velma is only in the Mystery Mansion, the most expensive set of the line. Thankfully, Daphne is in it as well.

The monster figs in it are great too.

Today we got a few new sets:

Sadly, Lego here in Brazil is much more expensive than in the US. The same ammount that I spent on those sets I could buy two of each in the US. Anyway, I think the Imperial Star Destroyer won't fit on my display but that's ok. I will find somewhere else to put it.

Thanks guys - lotsa responses. I guess (sigh) I will just have to buy the Mystery Mansion then. BTW, the Avengers Helicarrier is amazing. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to put Lego together.

You can get scooby doo minifigs at bricklink

https://www.bricklink.com/browseList.asp?itemType=M&catString=856

can save you a lot of money if you are only buying the huge sets for 1 or 2 minifigs and don't care about the other stuff

but honestly, the mansion is a good buy.

Yeah just gonna nab the mansion - the prices in CAD for Daphne are about $20 and Velma is approximately $25. Thats nuts! I love putting Lego together so I'll just splurge.

Well crapola, all my TRU's have gotten smarter with their polybags. I called my other closest one today and he specifically told me they had the Joker Bumper car but they were for a promotion that starts tomorrow free with i think he said $30 purchase. Didn't mention having to buy any specific sets. Does anyone know if these deals usually work with clearance items? I don't want to get anything with TRU tax on it.

When I bought the mini and Ferrari, I guess I should have bought them in two transactions to get two winter soldiers - or do the staff try and stop you doing that? Not that I particularly care, just with the high prices of Lego I'll take all the freebies I can get :)

I've had them give me trouble when buying a set using a coupon and getting the promo. They can be dicks sometimes. TRU gonna TRU.

Good work. I'm working on my young justice / teen titans now. :)

With jokerland coming today in addition to the Superboy from last year i'll be well on my way.

Just an announcement for those who live near Cincinnati. Next month my Orthanc will be on display at cincy comic con. If you want to see it please attend and introduce yourself as well :)

My official review of Darkseid Invasion is mixed.

The Javelin spaceship build was pretty fun, but the end result is lacking IMO. It has no real personality. It's a cross between the Blackbird and any generic plane with a Milano-esque front end. That may sound pretty sweet, but it's all kind of ho-hum. Where the Blackbird really surprised me with how great it was, this set had kind of the opposite effect. Also, the Javelin is not very iconic to me. Hell, I had to look the name up because I didn't know what it was called!Darksied's hover thing is pure garbage. It has some good parts, but I shouldn't have bothered building it. I wish Lego would have scrapped it and instead included another minifig in it's place.

Speaking of minifigs, these are all great. I already had clone versions of Cyborg and about 4-5 Green Arrows thanks to how many are included in other lots, but the Lego versions are heads and shoulders superior in every way. I've included my 3 Martian Manhunters for comparison too. The left one is from the Lego limited polybag from the $75 minimum order deal from last year, the middle one is from the Brainiac set, and the right one is a Chinese clone. I have a few Flash figs but you couldn't tell the difference from looking at them, so I didn't post pics. (Also because I can't seem to find my Chinese Flash...time to talk to the kids) I use the less-than-great Chinese versions for background noise in my various Lego displays. For example, Chinese Cyborg will be piloting the Javelin full time while the Lego one gets center stage in the team line up because he looks so much better.

I'm going to do a villain line-up next, for both DC and Marvel. However, things get a little stcky because I think I want to display just an MCU villain lineup (along with their lackeys when appropriate), but that leaves out some really great bad guys!

I really need Black Manta and Deathstroke for my DC side or else it will basically be Batman's rogues gallery, lol.

I'm still waiting on all the torsos to arrive after being printed for the X-Agents but I've been packaging up what I do have, They'll just be in small resealable bags with this as a backing slid in

Also as a small bonus that i'm throwing in that I'm not advertising (due to the name used on it), a sticker sheet for people that want to make thier own X-office.

11868707_10153629760002994_739803330_n.jpg

I would have loved to have them printed on bricks but a sticker sheet is about 1/6th of the cost of getting them printed, and the price of the set was already getting expensive.

I've been rebuilding the office in LDD too and I'll give away the file for free, I'm not sure how to represent the printed pieces I've used in it, I'm leaning towards just leaving them blank and letting people use what they have. Also with that in mind I don't know if I should rebuild it in a manner that the parts are readily available on bricklink? or just build it as whatever and people can figure that out for themselves.

I've got both of these, I ended up using the knockoff green hood on the official minifig.

Funny you mention that. I just bashed together 2 different Punishers and 2 different Winter Soldiers to make one great version of each.

I still have yet to open my official Winter Soldier polybag. Maybe I should do that tonight some time. That one has the red star on the cybernetic arm, making it the best version by default!

Tempting. It is just over 3 hours away, which isn't bad. Sadly, there aren't many others at the convention to go see. :(

Now, if you come to the Nashville area, I will be there with bells on.
