Need for Speed (2015) - New gameplay, Customization & Tuning

We've got a good balanced list, more to come on that through September.

One button press and it's gone, it's just another camera angle.

E3 build, so relatively old now - at least in dev terms.

I may be biased but yes, the latest builds do really look spectacular. Big improvement to the graphics, especially the lighting. Team have done a great job on it. Looking forward to showing it off in coming weeks.

Wow, Community Manager is arrived. Thx for the answers.

Ok, thanks for the answer. Good luck.

Is there neon lights for cars in the game? Its really weird how you guys keep avoiding that question.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.

Can you detail two things for me?

1: Will the PC version be uncapped by default, or at least capped to 60?

2: Did that guy just turn a 180sx into a Sileighty in the first video in the thread? That's not a separate car but just tuning right?

The tuning looks crazy, will probably preorder soon.

Ben, as fantastic as the game looks like, I just wish you guys had the sense to ditch the 'always-online' bullshit. What a waste and shame. An absolutely asinine decision.

1) Frame rate is something we're not talking about just yet, primarily because we're still talking about it. Once we have a solid answer we'll let you know.

2) Everything was done via the customization options, no new car. Worth noting that what you've seen is still only a small portion of the customization, still not seen any of the performance upgrades and only a relatively small section of the handling tuning has been experienced.

Great, thx. I want neon light, custom doors, custom audio system etc. :D

You can customize your sound system.

I'm scared to know the SysReq to run this maxed at 60 fps tbh lol
I would think even a GTX 960 could do it at 1080p. But I remember when the first Underground came out in 2003, you did need beefy hardware to get a flawless 60fps at 1024x768

But is this a problem for like 95% of users?

It's not a problem until years down the road when you can't play the game you purchased because EA took the servers offline. Always online means temporary. If you're comfortable with that, then cool, but it will affect 100% of users eventually, unless they remove the requirement.

This does not sound good. This should have been a straight answer, why being so secretive ? This should support at least 60fps like 99.999999% of PC games, period.

Expecting a stupid 30fps cap once again which means no sale for me.

Assuming it does support 60fps yes I can see this being quite demanding at "max" settings but console settings at 60fps should not be too demanding, a 770/960 should do it.

The game is still in development, once we've got things locked down we'll let you know.

No pressure, you should be aware of basic PC gaming standards. It's not like I'm expecting a slew of high-end rendering features.
Just the ability of running NFS at 60fps.

Considering he transformed it into another car, I'd say that this "small portion" is more than more entire games lol.

Can licence plates be changed like Rivals or is that not something you can say yet?

They gave a dumb answer that basically said you need always online DRM for Facebook updates basically, right? I seriously hope there's a chance they change that decision as always online for this is ridiculous with the weak optional features in single player they named that use online.

Played this at Gamescom last week.

Graphics were pretty on PS4, however reading that the game is night only is kind of a bummer for me. Customization of the cars is pretty neat with tons of options, well done from what I could access in the demo.

As for the most important part for me, the handling, I didn't really enjoy it. I might have been playing too much Driveclub in the last 6 months or it was just the car I had picked but in the few minutes we had for playing I didn't really enjoy the car at all.

The customization looks good. I can't deny that. However, I still won't get the game, because of the response EA was giving when they were asked why exactly it's always online. I'm not willing to buy this game, if it becomes literally unusable in a few years. There is no justification, as to why people won't be able to play the SP offline whenever they want to.

Doesn't help that the handling still looks like it's straight up copied from Burnout. Auto Drifting in curves is the worst thing that happened to NFS (imo), right after the Online requirement and the horrible "You fucking crashed! Here is a 20 second cutscene of your crash in slow motion!" I know that there is the Grip/Drift slider, but the guy in the stream also talks about how you don't want to enter a Drift event with the Grip build.

I know this isn't a big deal to EA, but I'm not buying the game. Hope people realize some day how bad those Online requirements are. It's not like we had several example in the last coupple years.

But is this a problem for like 95% of users?

It is, once the servers are offline. The game should also not be playable during any server maintenance for PSN and Xbox Live. Or when the services are being attacked again.

Again, your connection status won't stop the game from going offline and end up unplayable.

Customization looks amazing! Really like that they're using licensed parts, it adds a lot to the customization experience. I hope we get a good selection of classic muscle cars, but the cars revealed so far have been good. The only thing putting a damper on this game for me is the always online.. I don't think my internet connection can handle it, which is a shame because this looks like the Need for Speed I've been waiting for. :(

The guy in the video said you can change them, not sure if he was referring to the design of the plate or just the text.

Seriously? Then I don't know man. I think the constant dark environment would start to grate on me after a while.

The best customization playground NFS aka NFSU2 was only dusk till dawn. The same with the first underground and carbon. All 3 were decent, but NFSU2's customization has yet to be beat.....this game might take the crown finally after such a long period.

Even these trailers look leaps and bounds ahead of many games. I'm looking forward to possibly picking this up later. I'm not sure if you can answer this but, how would you compare this to Driveclub's graphics (arguably the best looking PS4 racer to date)? Personally, even though this is old build footage, it looks pretty radical.

Hey desu, have you played the Criterion remakes of Hot Pursuit and Most Wanted? How did the handling in this game compare to those? And if you haven't (or want to answer this also), how does it compare to Driveclub's handling?

Looks pretty cool and I am definitely getting Underground vibes from it. I love customizing some cars.
Shame it is always-online though. I wouldn't be able to play it even if I did want to support it.

+ I'm a total sucker for such deep levels of customization.
+ Gameplay even in the build from March already looked rather good.
+ Inclusion of legacy cars and JDM classics is appreciated.
+ Opens the door for a new Burnout game.

- Online only.
- Night-Wet environment only.
- Unknown but heavily implied forced use of the Autolog and/or social features.
- Unclear how the police work and level of theoretical shenanigans obtainable.

Going to need to read a lot of reviews for this one. Those negatives are all, individually, frustrating, to say nothing of combining them all. On principle I also try to avoid online only titles but I know that level of idealism is going to start keeping me from entirely decent games at some point. I also try to avoid EA on principle, but they've been on (relatively) good behaviour lately compared to the other massive publishers and I think I'm ready to give them a chance between this and Rock Band.

Ghost Ben, could you somehow implement a way to get "rare" parts for your cars? Like, parts you can only unlock after doing some sort of challenge, achievement, etc? I would love to be able to try to collect "Legendary" parts for my cars and show them off online. Sort of like Yellow loot in Destiny or Orange stuff in Borderlands... if that makes sense? Would definitely add some sort of challenge and addictiveness to the game!

It's a problem for anyone who wants to play this game the day it comes out when the servers get slammed, during the holidays when the servers get slammed, at any random time that Lizard Squad attacks and PSN/XBL are down, or in a few years when EA decides to flip the switch and shut it down. I think that's more than 5% of their target audience, people buy games to play them not look at an error message.

It would indeed, and most importantly there is no reason whatsoever that it should be artificially locked at 30fps.

Rivals could be unlocked and it plays great, no technical issues or graphical corruptions of any sort from my experience, but 60fps has to be sustained 100% of the time.

-GameTime.MaxSimFps 60 -GameTime.ForceSimRate 60.0

Ergo is begs the question : why was it locked at 30fps in the first place ? I played 22 hours of Rivals at 60fps without issues.

Because you need a monster rig to keep 60,fps at 1080p at all times. My pc can't do it with an i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz and a GTX 970.
