Destiny |OT27| Nerf Herders

Gjallarhorn "feels" more powerful than it is. It's something like 1.5-1.75x another RL. The way people talk about you you'd think it was an order of magnitude above the competition. He totally has a point.

Thorn, at launch, was capable of a double tap and ridiculous kills. It didn't feel powerful. The numbers and spreadsheets were there. Theoretical TTK for a double tap was the same then as it is now: 0.36s (it'll take longer for them to actually die but they'll be living dead waiting for DoT to finish them off).

I wouldn't go as far as they did, but community perception on a weapon's worth is often not that objective. 4th Horseman is not correctly recognized as the absolute king of burst DPS. Word of Crota got a ton of shit as being worthless. It's higher DPS than Fatebringer unless you're killing a mob of Thralls via Firefly. Atheon's Epilogue is still, and likely always will be, the fastest primary against Oracles. Objective analysis notwithstanding, the community talks about Unflinching Hand as absolutely essential when it's absolutely marginal and useful only at a fairly high level of play (reticle will move about 35% less but take the same time to return to the original alignment, this is not noticeable when hard scoping but very much so while drag scoping, depends on player and play style) whatever i digress. Corrective Measure is a regular, average Machine Gun. Sold by a vendor nobody would have held on to it. Still seen as essential despite the numbers. The Devil You Know is a regular ass hand cannon and people still regret deleting it. Low impact Hand Cannons (Word of Crota archetype) have better TTK than Fatebringer/Red Hand IX archetype, but nobody uses them. Best machine gun in PvP? It's green. Xerxes-C with Aggressive Ballistics + Focus Fire. Count with one hand how many times you've been killed by it. Meanwhile some guys still rock Hunger of Crota in Crucible despite no proximity and low ammo count.

They overstated the power of sound effects. But to suggest this is an Eve Online-style community that follows the spreadsheets objectively ignores the fact that cool factor and personal preferences go a super long way here.

That's a great breakdown, but you can't pin it all on hype. That green machine gun is useless in IB and trials, so who cares if it's the best in regular balanced crucible? Corrective Measure is great due to having great out of the box perks, oracle bonus, and is void which is great for running the vault.AE is okay, but VoC is up there for TTK and is a better all around gun. The Horn isn't a god just due to it's over all power, but with the added bonus of a damage over time affect the cab keep regenerating shield in check while reloading.

It's not all about the spreadsheets, but is a whole lot more than "it sounds like a Beast".

haha that was awesome. corrective measure is great and atheon's epilogue blows though ;)

Gjallarhorn is simply the best rocket launcher (in PvE), any time what you're doing would be best served by a rocket launcher, it's your best option, and frankly either that will still be the case after the nerf or won't be but probably will be and really there's not much more to it than that. The degree to which it's better than the second-best option is never going to be what people concern themselves with when erecting the kind of cult-like reputation a weapon like this can take on in a videogame. That kind of thing is fun, and is inevitably going to happen to some degree no matter what, about some gun.

I love Gally to death, but wish the other Exotic RLs got some shine, too. I remember seeing the model for Dragon's Breath and hoping it would amount to something useful. It looked like a friggin' A10 Thunderbolt. I had high hopes. It would have been cool if the fireball left by a Dragon's breath rocket was larger and lasted a little longer, and ignited nearby targets.

Truth is at least pretty good in pvp.

But... but it will be, right?

Best to enjoy your time with her now, and cherish it. The Nerf™ is coming.

People are taking this Gjallarhorn nerf waaaaay too seriously. Sure, the Wolfpack rounds damage is being halved, but we're also getting an increase to base damage on all RLs plus an increase to Blast Radius.

At the end of the day, the Gjallarhorn will still be the best all-round Rocket Launcher in the game.

Oh definitely. The only chance that has of not being the case is if something superior is released that serves the same function.

The Ghorn is the hugely more powerful than any other weapon in the game right now. Period.

It does massively more damage with the Wolfpack rounds. And yes 1.5-1.7x more damage is massively more. It's like having 12 rockets instead of seven and being able to fire two at a time.

It does damage over time because of the Wolfpack rounds.

The Wolfpack rounds have tracking and they will track to the nearest living enemy so even if you already killed your target then you can still kill nearby enemies with the same rocket.

The tracking guarantees that you do all the damage possible with each rocket too. Other RLs extra damage perk just falls to the ground and doesn't do as much damage as a result of missed rounds.

Downside is, we're forced to buy our Physical CEs from EB Games.
I fucking hate EB Games.

Have to agree with you there, but sadly there's not much that can be done if you still want the pre-order.
Though I have gotten pre-orders from mighty ape in the past ^^

on a slight edit to the aforementioned OT suggestion in part due to the recent news of xur's inventory,

Destiny [OT 28] Gjalli's later

Destiny [OT 28] wolf-pack rounds later

So close to Guardian Lord HNNNG FFS LEVEL FASTER!
Stupid crucible takes ages D:

I have to do the same, level up my Titan subclass. I have a lot more bubbles to unlock than you though :(

I had a Xerxes with that roll. Tried it out in PvE and the damage numbers were underwhelming (compared to itself with different perks). Does it really outperform any of the other similarly classed guns in PvP? Afaik all chainguns with that base impact are a 2/3 SK, no?
And TDYK has a big clip - that's why I hung onto mine. Other than that it's just a reskin of every other handcannon.

I'm at that point of when I see excessive lag and teleporting BS, I just back out. It makes the Crucible such a poop show.

Dude I went to a buddy's wedding in Portland (I know, not WA) in August and I FELL IN LOVE. WOW the weather was immaculate
read: not raining
and I had never seen trees so tall.

We saw waterfalls, nobody had air conditioning, holy cow.

Aaaaaand back to New Jersey. :(
Wish I could sell my craptastic condo and get out of here

I live in Portland, and most of this is normally true, this summer is the exception. Heat waves have been awful and we all wish we had AC

San Diego still has the best climate in the US

And I don't believe the Sleeper Simulant is gonna be quite the "Gjallarhorn Replacement" Bungie are hyping it up to be ;-)

I bought the Destiny Ghost Edition - EB Games-exclusive.
I preordered the Physical CE of TTK - EB Games-exclusive.
I wanted to pre-order the Fallout 4 Pipboy Edition - EB Games-exclusive, and sold out in something like 5 minutes.

I would absolutely shop anywhere else, if I wasn't being forced to buy from EB. It makes me feel dirty, lining their coffers.

Today has been a very surreal Destiny day. I'd love to see the reactions from Bungie studios. Hell, I'd love to know how many of the devs didn't have their own Gjallarhorns.

Also, Bungie has been way too quiet about charity shaders. When will the e-mails go out?

Yo.

Need some guardians, approximately 4, to run a HM Crota in about 10 mins. Someone to run the sword preferably as well. It'll be a fresh fun-run.
