Dishonored: DE (PS4/XBO) - In the days that follow, your trials will be great

This is going to be one of those Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition situations where people shit on a great game because the current gen port isn't a huge improvement over the previous gen version, isn't it?

I... Can't believe that the textures aren't even upgraded. I got the GOTY edition a year or two back for Christmas and never played it (got to the last level in the base game at launch, and then XCOM happened and I never looked back), but I was going to give it a go on PS4. If this game really doesn't look any better than the PS3 version, I guess I'll just play that... It seems insane that I can't even have 2012's PC experience on my 2015 console.

This is going to be a shitstorm isn't it? It's like they purposely hid that this was a cash grab.

Is it too late to cancel my PSN pre-order?

depends on where you live. i'd try calling customer support if you're serious about getting a refund.

So any other aspects apart from the 1080p that PS4 version DE exceed the PS3 GOTY version?
noises play out of the controller's speaker and i'm sure pretty colors light up on the DS4's light bar :D :D :D

Let me guess, in order to meet the standards of this generation, we will get a 2.5GB patch around launch to address "issues", a 1.5GB to improve the load times after a few weeks and then another 900MB patch which will enable an unlocked framerate.

I guess we can assume that the PS4 version has a much more solid framerate than PS3...in addition to the 1080p obvious

highly doubt it. The port doesn't seem to have much effort put into it. Looks like it was a cash grab and they had no faith in it.

lol. honestly, i doubt we'll get any patches at all, this seems like a low budget port.

If I'm remembering right (size may be a little off but that number sounds right), there was a 122MB patch already when I preloaded it. Patch note says "Bug fixes."

While the initial reports suggest its only 1080p/30fps, its art style doesnt really show much difference between lower and higher textures.

That's true, and it's not like the max textures on PC are particularly sexy, this game is all about the art style.
I... Can't believe that the textures aren't even upgraded.

Has that been confirmed by anyone yet? This is the type of thing I feel like we should wait for conclusive evidence or a DF article on. It's not like we'll be telling the difference in compressed videos given how many of the textures in this game are just plain low res no matter where you play it.

I tried canceling on PS3/PS4 and I had no luck. I specifically funded my wallet to purchase this. I was excited for this as I heard good things about the game but I just can't support this kind of fuckery. I don't care that the game isn't 60fps or whatever but the intentional lack of information is a bit insulting.

listen even with the fuckery it's an amazing fucking game and it seems to run at 30 fps locked from what we hear. If you haven't played it then you'd be missing out one of the best games of last gen.

The only people who really are complaining are those who have already played it and simply wanted to double dip. Unless your PC can handle games ok then I wouldn't worry too much and just play it. The game is worth it, even if the developer didn't put the effort for the port.

If only! I'd gladly take all of that to improve on what it seems we're being offered. Far better late than never, IMO.

I think the lack of information is because it's just a normal port with nothing too fancy done to it. It does look to run really nice and it does look a lot sharper, but it's not a major difference apart from resolution. This seemed to be brought to new consoles to remind people of a great game before Dishonored 2 comes out, and for possible new players to enjoy a "definitive" version (in content, at least). It was a sales booster, but that's not always a bad thing. For consoles, this looks to be the best playing version.

if you haven't played the game before and enjoy stealth games, you should stick with it. one of my favorite games from last gen.

Yeah I get that. But it's hard to justify it on the basis on it being a good game. I really don't care all that much about it's specs but it's more of a ethics thing I guess. I'm more than sure I will like and enjoy the game but it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth being deceived in this manner. It's something I just can't support.

True. Still I don't think we were ever truly deceived as much as our expectations got the better of us. They could have made a fantastic port, they decided to not put the resources into doing it though.

But if it's an ethics thing, wait for the steam winter sale there might be a sale on this. It isn't graphically intensive.

Looks like I'm stuck with it. I'm sure it'll be a fine game.
Phone support shot me down as I prepaid with PSN credit and web chat "had a problem with their tools" and couldn't cancel my order.

I'm not a PC person as I don't have a decent one capable of running anything.

then honestly at this point just enjoy the game. Live and learn. At the very least you'll be getting a fantastic game so it's not like the gamble didn't pay off.

playing it right now, it still looks like a PS3/360 game, if its gonna look like this id expect some sort of performance boost. glad i bought it for 20 bucks cause i would not pay more than that.

Was it? Seems like it really is the "Definitive Edition" on consoles, despite how barebones the port is.

it was sold as "Definitive Edition" period, no "on consoles" qualifer. the pc version is far superior to this. could've done a tomb raider or a gta and actually made a higher quality version as the definitive experience.

What incentive did you have for preordering?

That is a shame they wouldn't give you a refund.

I got cold feet over my digital pre-order on Xbox One this week and they gave me a refund without even asking why. I have since bought it on disc at a good price (and the ability to resell) as I want it but didn't want to risk being lumbered with a crappy digital version forever.

I never for a second thought this would trump the PC game.

This is pretty weird. You preordered without any information and are now trying to cancel because of lack of information.

Yes, it was. We were told it would "take full advantage" of the power of current-gen consoles- not "some" advantage or "a little" advantage, but "full" advantage. Since these consoles can demonstrably run circles around this port's performance, I don't think we've received anywhere near "full advantage" by any reasonable person's measure.

Well, if they actually said those things, that's unfortunate. I was not aware of such claims.

This port is super rushed and barebones but it has all the DLC and doesn't seem to have any performance issues, so I'm happy. It sucks for those who expected more. And if your quotes are legit (I'm not questioning that they are), then I understand why.

I guess my expectations were tempered weeks ago, when it was becoming pretty obvious we weren't going to see anything on this port before release.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Disappointed.

Oh well. I got the game for free on PS+ and liked it so much I decided to upgrade after just playing the first level. I am sad that the port is not what I was expecting but I still am excited to play the game and story-DLC.

Uggg. So it's clearly just a quick PC port. While I'm OK with that for the $20 I payed (PSN+ upgrade) Arcane through their name on this weak 30fps port and ought to be ashamed. Don't pay $40 unless you love stealth and can't possibly play it any other way. For $20
go ahead.

Once again the radio silence on a title has proven to be a bad omen. But looking back through this thread some folks still don't realize it's the bat signal for mediocrity.

I booted the original version to test out my new mouse the other day, and although I hadn't been that impressed by it before I really got into it.

Blink seems OP for stealth, though. Between that and that double jump I'm everywhere. I haven't even tried the possession ability yet. But it really is a fun game. However, I don't care about the story. I usually listen to every bit of a story, but I know the basics and I'm alright with that. I don't know whether it's because I'm getting older and my tastes are changing, I have less free time so it's more valuable, or because the story is just shit. I love the world though, I think a post above mentioned the world building too. It's great.

I had it free from PS+ as well, so I paid 20 for the "upgrade"
Got all the DLC and the game on my prefered system, so I'm happy.

Yeah, I'll happily pick this up, too. Game I've been meaning to play forever, somewhat enhanced, with all the content in one package. I'll take it, especially at that price.

Still disappointed, though. Maybe there was never a possibility Dishonored would come to the PS4 in any other state, but I've seen other people play it enough to know how much it could have benefited from more significant refinements. 60fps being the big one.
