24 Questions Black People Have For White People

Borrowing Stutte's formatting.

Why do you make such horrible descisions in horror movies? - White people make good and bad decisions in horror movies just through being majority. Privilege.

Why do you freak out when black people are picked to play white fictional characters? - I don't do this.

Why is a big butt and big lips considered attractive on a white woman but not on a black woman? - I don't think this way.

Do you really think Miley is the one who created twerking? - I've never thought that.

Why am I supposed to teach you how to twerk? - I don't think you're an expert on twerking.

Why is it that white people always act as though they've discovered a new trend when black people have been doing it for years? - I don't do this.

Why is white crime seen as an isolated incident but black crime is seen as a representation of my entire community? - Because people that dominate the media marginalize those that don't. I don't dominate the media so I don't do this.

Why does talking about race make you feel so uncomfortable? It doesn't.

You don't really believe that racism is over just because we have a black president? - I don't believe that.

Why is it easy for you to notice when there are no white people around, but you hardly ever notice when there are no black people around. - I'm not blind so I'm aware of the races of those around me.

Why is your goal to be colorblind? - It isn't.

Why do you want to say the "N" word so bad? - I don't.

Why do you think it's ok to touch our hair? - I don't, I understand boundaries.

Why do you think having one black friend makes you a cultural expert or not a racist? - I don't do this.

Why do you feel comfortable cursing at your parents? My parents say some dumb ass shit.

Why do you kiss your dogs on the mouth? - I don't do this.

Why can't you pronounce black names, but you can pronounce other names? - I can pronounce black names.

Why do you feel like all lions lives matter, but all black lives don't? - I don't feel this way.

Why is it so hard for you to acknoledge your privledge? - I don't find it hard.

How does it feel to not be the spokesperson for your entire race? - It feels okay. I feel fortunate to not have to deal with this in the way others do.

Must be nice. - It's pretty good, i'm glad I was born white due to the additional safety nets I have recieved.

it's almost like addressing entire races is pretty dumb and reinforces assumptions :^)

Now try being black in the US where you ARE seen as a monolith and treated as such, and the actions of one represents all.

You're merely tired of talking about but minorities live it every day.
Dude, that is not completely true. I DO agree that the authorities in the U.S. do have major issues with race, but that's not the point I was trying to make. I was just a little upset that used the term white to refer to most if not all white people. Just as I'm sure black People get offended when white people use black to describe all black people (as they should). It's going to sound a little cliché or hippy-esque, but I think racial terms like black and white should be abolished as a term to describe an entire populous. Unless it's being used to describe a specific individual in order to convey what that person looks like. We are all humans, not colors.

But somehow black people still are seen as less than human.

Are they trying to be above it all and set an example? Something that is hard to do. Or are they trying to demonstrate the issue so people can empathize? Something that is easier to do. Well apparently it probably doesn't matter because people are too dense to get the later anyways.

I can't watch so I may be missing context.

-the horror movie one, never heard of that. I thought that was the black person stereotype actually because they are always killed off with the dumb blonde or whatever. Maybe that's who it was directed at.

-cursing at your parents is a white person stereotype now? That's funny. I wouldnt. Do not know anyone who would.

-Rihanna and Nikki Minaj I always here as some of the hottest women out there. They're certainly known for their, um, features. Don't get that question personally, but anecdotal.

-Miley invented twerking but black people teach you how to twerk? Make up your mind which race it's associated with. Or better yet don't associate it with one at all.

-could not care less about Cecil the lion if I'm being honest, and dogs are gross.

-never seen or heard of the hair thing. Apparently that's a thing according to this thread. Gross.

Its funny that you have such a condescending tone with how you answer these questions when this is shit a lot of black people have to deal with.
His answers seems pretty short and honest to me. If you see them as condescending, then :/

His only other option really would just be to not reply at all, which seems against the whole video

What do you feel was condescending about it? I answered the questions as a white person. I get the point of the video, which I answered in the last few questions.

Most important part of your post.

Which is why I posted it. The point of the video, which people may have missed was to point out that it's silly to ask one black person to answer for an entire race, which is why the last few questions are asked.

But it was fun to answer them anyhow.

Who are you quoting? Because I never meant to imply anything like that.

I know that Buzzfeed makes videos to sympathize with viewers, but I still feel as though it implies a major difference when there isn't....unless anyone counts the color of one's skin as a major difference...which I'm sure some do.

Glad you hear you are enjoying your privilege, as you stated in your post.

And not being judged as a representative of all people that are White.

Some of us receive neither benefit.

No it's completely true. If it wasn't true then we wouldn't have news stations and radio show hosts and politicians saying there needs to be better black leadership. People wouldn't constantly summon MLK like a pokemon to beat black people down.

How often do you hear on TV after a mass shooting or sports/college/festival riot that white people need better leaders? How often do they go on TV and summon JFK like a pokemon and say he would be ashamed of white people today?

Your utopia vision for society isn't anywhere close to being happy, it's nice to think that but back here in reality, shit isn't swell.

24 Questions these black People Americans Have For rich white People American sorority girls on the internet that have never talked to a black person.

Fixed.

Seriously, I know some of you may experience this stuff but it's beyond me. Maybe because I live in Atlanta where all races hold hands and live in harmony? (exaggerating of course, but still).

Was this ever in dispute?

Nope.

Yah I get the point of the video.

Whether you got the point of the video or even saw the video, it doesn't actually matter-- your privilege still exists. For you, this gets to be a funny little video.

Live and let live people.

That's what #blacklivesmatter has been trying to tell you. I think we'd rather not be dead for meaningless bullshit like getting pulled over by the police.

Have black people in horror movies been dying more often? The trend in the late 90s to 2000s was to have the black guy live at the end.

It was definitely condescending in tone. I dont know how you cant see that.

Especially because the way the vid was presented Im pretty sure all the questions were rhetorical in nature and were more meant to start a discussion or reflection rather than a literal "Answer these 24 questions every white person that views this".

Once again, since people in this thread somehow dont seem to understand, they're not saying every white person is like this, but rather that these are situations that many black people find themselves in with other white people.

This is a stupid fucking video. I'm not white (or black) and I thought the video was fucking retarded. Maybe it's just me.

It's just you.

What's "fucking retarded" about the video? Im sure you know since you're the authority on the experiences that black people often face.

lol asian here, you're not the only one.

You too.

Why is it so hard for you to acknoledge your privledge? - It's not, but I'm also not going to feel guilty about something I was apparently born with.

Huh. I'm white, but I can acknowledge that white people are generally in a position of privilege and have fought to maintain that privilege for the last few centuries without feeling guilty at all.

I must be special.

Ok so the video doesn't matter? Why would EloquentM post it then? I thought it was thought provoking, but also just... provoking. It was fun to answer the questions and also understand the message it was trying to get across.

No need to be shitty.

Then why is the video titled questions for white people if they aren't addressing white people, but a smaller subset of that group?

The question about the black president. When you anwsered it, it just seemed dismissive and it seemed as if it was some stupid question to ask even though whenever we talk about race in America the first thing alot of people say is that because we have a black president racism is over and then go back to dismissing whatever issues we have.

We get it not all white people do this cool but there are a fucking a lot of white people that are guilty of this shit.

Then why is the video titled questions for white people if they aren't addressing white people, but a smaller subset of that group?

Its not a small subset of the group tho.

You sound like you're being very single minded about this. Do you let everything that's reported in the media influence what you think? I think you mean "shit is not well for ME". There are plenty of well respected African Americans that are a lot better off than some white people and visversa. Anyway, I appologize that we have conflicting views, but nothing I say is going to change your opinion and nothing you say is going to sway what I perceive as common sense. We are at an impasse kind sir.

The only thing I won't give them is the lion's life vs. black lives matter and the amount of coverage. No one should trivialize animal poaching stories.

No need to be shitty.

The video doesn't matter in regards to the privilege you said you aren't ashamed to have. It exists regardless of the video.

How is that a white thing???

I never said it was. I was explaining what was asked.

Well, which is is it? Since race is the big qualifier for you. Indian? Middle-Eastern? Hispanic? Asian? Native American? Polynesian? Inuit? Mixed?

Its not a small subset of the group tho.

That's why I said smaller. If the video is addressed to "white people", and not those who you're actually addressing, then of course there will be confusion from the ones who the video is not addressing.

Did he ever deny that his privilege exists? Or are you just railing on white privilege in general?

When you frame statements or questions with broad generalisations, e.g. "why do X people do this", it is implicitly referring to the entire demographic rather than individuals. So will always get the same defensive response from some.

You guys don't get this.

One lion.

[A rising four-digit number every year] human beings of African descent.

You're drawing some serious non-sequiturs in here. Like obviously #BLM matters. But its not trying to tell people what I'm trying to tell you. I'm trying to tell you to chill it with the projecting the intention and stance of some posters in here. You won't let stufte "get it" and it's derailing this thread. You seem to just want him to in the wrong more than he really is. It's obnoxious tbh, and there are some posters in here who are actually tone deaf.

I don't get being cavalier about things like that. It's not something I subscribe to.

Put it like this, I would never say, "Well, I was born in a 1st world country and I don't feel guilty about it. How does it feel? Feels great!"

Why wouldn't I say that?

Yeah, exactly right.

Hardly a derail in a thread about this subject matter.

Changing the title to anything that resembles "24 Questions Black People Americans Have For White People Americans." as if non American's are somehow exempt, or answering for yourself with "not me" or "I don't do that" is missing the point entirely.

It couldve been titled better, ya.

What I do find interesting is that it seems pretty clear that no group likes being treated as a monolith, as can easily be seen by this thread. Yet this is what black people literally have to face every day of the week. Take solace in the fact that for you it's condensed to a video that you watched one day for 5 minutes.

some people are more cavalier about certain things than other people, and reconciling that with your personal beliefs is part of day to day life.

It doesn't miss the point as long as the video is addressed to "white people". Some people don't like being lumped into blanket statements, and will respond accordingly.
