The shit performance and dull gameplay made me put it aside. It's a title I want to revisit with the remastered edition as soon as I grab a replacement PS4, but I don't give it much hope... I'm just not a fan of "that" kind of game. I absolutely loathed TR2013, but I kinda enjoy Uncharted - It's easy going humour lets it off.

Looking forward to playing Bloodborne eventually. Almost snapped up a PS4/Bloodborne bundle, but decided to wait for black friday/hardware refresh.

Yeah, the remastered version is the way to go. As for TR, I enjoyed it more than UC. More exploring in relation to shooting.

I've played it and Bloodborne shits on Ori

Ori is still really good, but it's more something that would round out the latter half of a GOTY list. Bloodborne expansion coming December just reinforces GOTY status. ez win honestly

Wut?! Has this been confirmed?

Super Smash Bros... WTF?

What is the point. I have bought into the hype several times and purchased it on Wii and WiiU. Both times I played it with friends on the couch (ideal scenario I believe). On both occasions after 30 minutes it was never put back in the console.

Why is it a "thing"? It is an unapproachable, unplayable, mayhem where not one player in the room thought they were doing anything to "win" and it was a random, dull experience for all involved. The learning curve & feedback loop of action and reaction is broken. In short it is shit and expect more from Nintendo.

And before someone pipes up that you "have to put the hours in" and you will be "rewarded" with a great game... I call shenanigans; no other Nintendo game demands it and my time is more valuable than that.

Tell Tales The Walking Dead is a horrible game. The story isn't as emotional as people give it credit for and ending was about as cheap a play they could have had. The only thing worse would have been if Clementine had to shoot her dog.

Also, stories don't work in open world games. If you can't control the pacing, the story falls apart. So games like Red Dead start to fall flat. The premise is that your wife and child are being held hostage until you bring down the leader of your former gang. So then why are you walking night patrols for some farmer lady and playing horse shoes with the ranch hands? Instead of rushing to help your wife, you're hunting down three different types of flowers for some crazy guy to put on his wife's grave. It just doesn't work.

Spot on, I'm on the exact same boat.

Really baffled why people hail it as their favorite game of the generation/all time/universe etc

I mean, it's very well made, that's for sure.

The plot is enjoyable, if predictable, but the gameplay is just so boring. Controls are wonky. Idk... To each his own.

Exactly the same sentiments here as well. Really hoping Naughty Dog does something better with their time than make a sequel for The Last of Us.

Most of the games people go nuts for on here are irrelevant and niche. It's annoying sorting through piles of OTs about them and threads about random Internet personalities.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Sony's got the best internal specs, but the PS4 lineup blows with Sony doing fuck all to change that. The so called "big 3" at E3 was a demo for a game in production for a decade and 2 games that hadn't even started production on a full scale.

SFV being console exclusive is the only meaningful thing exclusive wise coming with an actual fucking date (March 2015).

The fuck is Sony doing?

I thought it was garbage really. Nice graphics, poop gameplay. Dark Sector was more fun.

I've posted this before.

It's one of the only games that are popular that I can't understand why people like it so much.

Saw my roommate play it... He didn't really enjoy it... But he played it over basically anything else because it was popular.

Really? Is it so hard to understand?

- Familiar, tried & tested post apocalyptic setting, well written story and a controversial ending that makes people discuss
- Great graphics (for a PS3)
- Standard, familiar TPS gameplay + light stealth elements + very simple puzzles
- Surprisingly good multiplayer (haven't tried it, but most people seem to like it)
- Exclusive game heavily advertised by Sony
- From a famous studio known for making spectacular cinematic games

Gee, I wonder why people liked it!

It's ok not to like a popular game, but pretending there's no reason for it to be popular is just dumb.

Yeah I didn't understand the excitement given what little they showed. I mean, announcements are good but wow.

What does this mean?

Can I please have a list of relevant games so I understand the idea behind this controversial opinion?

Competitive pro/esports level play of FPS games (mainly CoD) on consoles has a low skill ceiling and pretty much anyone who puts the time in can play at the level.

They aren't important to the market. Nobody really knows about them and won't. They don't have this massive effect on the industry that many ascribe to them.

For instance, I see post after post about updates and information on Yakuza 5 or whatever. Who really cares? I'm not saying it's a bad gamw, but seriously? There's a whole slough of OTs like it with other games.

I think the Kingdom Hearts Series is the best thing Square Enix has ever made.

And Final Fantasy 10 is a million times better than Final Fantasy 7

Grundle: The Awakening
Maybe not shocking on here, but Dragon Age: Inquisition is fucking tedious. I said I was done with Bioware after the end of ME3 (I own almost every game they made since Baldur's Gate 1), but stupid me went ahead and picked this game up on sale.

30 hours in...

-Something interesting happens about every 10 hours it seems.

-I thought the single player MMO talk was overblown...it is not.

-Combat is worse than a game they made around 17 years ago (yeah, not the same Bioware).

-They continue to have these impassable walls on their maps that make you travel way around to get to where you're going. Trying to find some components in the Exalted Plains just now was maddening.

-Jesus protagonist to the extreme.

In the end, I'm the big dumb jerk since I'll continue playing it until the end.

I'm just gonna say that I think Hawke was a better character than that Inquisitor.
Also I liked the combat in II more than I did in Inquisition.

I'm with ya. Never understood it myself. Do you like fighting games by chance? I do and I think that was part of the problem. Smash is mostly a party game IMO, and I went into it expecting something a little more like a fighting game.

Persona games are boring as fuck. The school routine is a chore. The combat and dungeon crawling is awful. Art design is ugly. Dialogue is cheesy. Characters aren't interesting. I played over 20 hours of both Persona 3 and 4, and I didn't have an ounce of fun.

Speaking to this a bit, this past EVO was the first time i watched smash being played competitively and I found what i witnessed to be quite interesting and not in a good way.

Clearly there was some high level play going on but pretty much every match i seen looked like people exploiting the mechanics of the game to get a one up on the competition and/or hope they made a mistake.

I'm not familiar with smash other then playing it a few times when it first came out all those years ago but every matched involved this tactic of almost constantly hanging off the edge of the stage for reasons that i assume are meant to have the opponent attack them and wind up in a disadvantage i guess?

There was also this one guy that i watched play as jigglypuff and he'd constantly jump out off the stage to the edges of the screen and do triple jumps in the air. Again for what i'm assuming is to bait the opponent into attacking and leaving themselves in a disadvantages position.

I'm not gonna be dismissive and say there was no skill involved whatsoever but for a large majority of it i'm just like wtf am i watching.

There's a perfectly good plug-in that allows you to ignore any thread you don't want to see. I don't care about 90% of indies and the entire FPS genre, but I'm not going to say it's wrong to post about them.

- Last of Us is still an insanely overrated game. Archaic controls and melodramatic storyline is not GOTY for me. A great game, but nowhere near "the best of...." scale.

- Rockstar should completely ignore RDR (which had no replay value) and focus on Bully-Manhunt.

The Witcher 3 is kinda boring. It suffers from being a game, when it probably should just have been a book or a movie. No game that controls as bad as The Witcher 3 deserves a place in this year's GOTY list.

Which is fine. But we have a new thread about anything that happens to Obscure Handheld Remaster 4: 25th anniversary edition. It's my opinion that they are annoying and way too spread out, which blocks the more broad discussions that can be had for things more people like. Then again, most big threads, like the current gears of war UE one, just turn into bs.

Ocarina of time isnt as great or praise worthy as people make it out to be. Twilight princess was much better in my opinion.

Also Sonic Adventure was better than its sequel.

Skyrim sucks. The story is boring, the gameplay is awful and the locales get tiresome way too quickly. Nothing like exploring one snow peak to go across the map to...another snow peak. I also passed a snow peak or two to get there. I spent most of the time I did play that game getting mods to work because the textures Bethesda uses are awful and you need community patches so the game doesn't shit itself when you play it.

I haven't played it but The Witcher 3 seems like the point where people have started to get sick of open world games. It's like "thanks for all the content and I had fun, but I really just want to play something else now." That's specifically why I didn't buy it or Far Cry 4. There's so many ways to amass a game library nowadays that I don't want to play one game for 80+ hours. If you're into retro gaming you're even more loathe to spend $60 on one of these games that, as good as they might be, you just don't want to devote the time to.

I got the Legendary edition for $2 at a yard sale still sealed for some reason. There's a ton to do but it's at the expense of the combat not being shit, which doesn't sit well with me. At least in Fallout you can just shoot stuff. To go along with my comment above, Skyrim is also not unique any more. There's open world games out the ass anymore, so it doesn't stand out in any way.

Using the term "overrated" always seems like an attempt to belittle the common consensus. As for archaic controls, I wonder how they should have been implemented instead, and how they pale in comparison to other 3rd person action-adventures?

Devils Third looks like the most refreshing games we've had this year.

The Lastu Garduon Desu looks like Scalebound with all of the fun, flair, good gameplay and character completely taken out of it and turned into yet another artsy game for people to proclaim it as a grand emotional adventure about a boy and his Harry-Potter-scrapped-Griffindoor-design.

Original 150 are the best.

Serious me:
I think it was more of the hype behind it being something greater than it really is. Voice acting, graphics and direction were top notch but the gameplay just felt like an afterthought that didn't match what the game was setting out to do. I felt like I was controlling Joel's body but didn't connected with the way he was talking. Combined with characters running around aimlessly in stealth sections, the clickers being inconsistent with the rules set(hearing abilities), scripted sequences wherever possible and tedious "puzzles" it really wasn't that great. It's not shit or terrible but severely under delivered as a game an would've been better as a movie. It's not much of a surprise since Naughty Dawgs have this strange obsession with "movie-like quality".

I find that outside of srpg/arpg/drpg, the rpg gendra is generally not really worth it, a few exception aside.
I can have fun with one mediocre of those i listed, but a mediocre turn based jrpg with open world maps, city to explore, corridor dungeons (all of those void of anything)... i just can't. And even "good" ones i have to have a long break between them.

That brings me to another point, i have less issue playing rpgmaker (or not) porn games than the regular ones i listed above, because while they are generally featuring the same issues i have with jrpgs (and are far less polished in every aspect), i actually feel rewarded for discovering hidden scenes and just screwing around with the game, a good one will give more meaning to towns that most rpg with a decent amount of hidden scene and secret quests.
I remember someone in that thread saying a game was automatically not as good if it was perverted, i personally disagree, but that's a matter of (bad) taste and i perfectly understand their stance on the subject.

Yeah, Skyrim's locales were awful. Definitely the most uninteresting Elder Scrolls since Arena. Everything's just so god damned bland.

I also dislike Skyrim. A huge problem I had with the game is how the enemies scale and level with you. A lot of people championed this when it first came out and still do. Though to me if just feels like a total lack of progress. Everywhere I go it's always the same difficulty. I can't go to a super insane dungeon and be completely underleveled and get my shit knocked in or later in the game go back to and early dungeon and just own. Since the gameplay was so dull all I wanted to do was become completely over leveled and just rule the world but I could never really do that.

this has to do more with gaf controversial opinion then general opinion but i think platinum games are bad devs and i have yet to play a game from them that i find is good

just to point out i have only played 3 of there games (Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising and Wonderful 101)

for Bayonetta i will admit that i just sucked at it and didn't have a good experience, i was also playing the PS3 version but i just didn't help but still i don't remember much about it

as for Rising FUCK RISING, it's story is just bad what with it jumping all over the place and half the time i didn't even know what i was doing story wise. as for the game play who's bright idea was it to bind Block/Parry to the same button as light attack, circle was barely used at all why couldn't they have put it there also there is the lack of a proper dodge move. Raiden had the jumping backwards slash but it was shit and with out and good dodge move dealing with those grab fuckers was annoying as hell

i found Wonderful 101 to be the least bad of the 3 i had played BUT why the hell did platinum feel the need to add in so many side scrolling/non fighting system (for the lack of a better word) stuff it just slowed down the pace so much, like i get it punch out is fun but did you really kneed to put in 2 punch themed bosses?

Despite liking a small number of them, like Max and the Curse of Brotherhood, I hate seeing the list of free games for PSN and XBL come out with indie sidescroller and being told how these derivatives of derivatives are so great.

final fantasy 7 is an okay rpg but a bad final fantasy game.

final fantasy 12 is neither a good rpg nor a good final fantasy game.

I enjoyed mystic quest more than 12.
