I know Gangsta has had a bit of a mixed reception on Gaf, but I do feel it easily has the best opening of the season.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COBpRXm_CUQ

Although that might be because all the other openings are pretty generic, and Gangsta's is just different and good enough to set it above the pack.
Gangsta has been pretty good so far. The music is especially good all around. It's a shame it probably won't get a second season due to it not bring popular in japan.

Really? That sucks. There's so much more to explore in the series. How long is this season going to be?

According to MAL 12 episodes.
Ew. There's definitely way too much backstory and character work to complete anything worthwhile in twelve episodes.

I'd overdose on Celebrer for more seasons.
Planetes

I fucking copy. What a great series, took me a while to finish but man the characters were phenomenal. The ending left me very satisfied.
You just got done watching the most accurate space anime there'll ever be
Top-five anime of all time. Some of the best character work there has been in the medium.

I cant fucking stand the Yusarin fanboy bullshit in Charlotte. Show is pretty good but those random bits that get inserted with the fucking idiot glasses dude really makes me cringe. Just awful and pointless.

Being Goldov is suffering. First your crush shots on your jealousy and now she can't stop talking about Adlet and even embarrasses herself for his safety. NTR vibes all around this Sunday. Don't shit on my OTP Hans! Flemie and Adlet were a solid pair this week with Flemie starting to believe in Adlet. The seventh brave debate is either ingenious or stupid because it can really only be Muira or the princess. It'll probably be Muira but it be an interesting twist for the bunny to be the main villain.

I don't think I actually have anything negative to say about this so far. Every episode has been incredibly entertaining - it's just so much fun to watch! Obviously the characters aren't particularly complex, and the world is ridiculous and nowhere near grounded, but they don't need to be. The show sets out to be a silly comedy anime about magic and in that respect it gets full marks - so far.

Dragon Ball Super 008

This episode looked fine, a few rough patches (group shots were weak) but nothing terrible.

Beerus challenging Oolong of all people to the fate of the world rock paper scissors match is great.

In retrospect, the Princess looked very suspicious in the first episode when the sky turned red just before the Braves were chosen.

Mora has it out so badly for Adlet that I think it might not be her. I think maybe they're making her a red herring like Hans was at first.

She has it out so badly for Adlet that if she gets her way and he were to die, she'd be wrong since he is a Brave. She would lose all credibility then in the face of the other Braves. I think she's just mad that someone who is to her unknown was chosen.

Most of Charlotte is pointless considering how much plot we've been getting lately when compared with the previous episodes.

Just random stuff to to toss out there but here goes: Saitou features prominently in the TV series as the events of this sort of drive his rivalry with Kenshin. Okita doesn't figure in at all as he dies of TB or some such shortly after these events. As far as the fights, I love them as they're sort of the antithesis to the shounen stuff that permeates the rest of the franchise. Decided in an instant as opposed to the overlong drawn out fights you'll see if you check out the TV series. In fact, everyone's comparatively powered down in this to something somewhat realistic, the lone exception being Kenshin's master who retains that sort of "god amongst men" skill level from the source material as seen by how he effortlessly sliced up the bandits at the beginning.

re: Okita. It seems really weird to devote quite a bit of space in an already time-constrained OVA to such a pointless character.

As for fights, it's not a big complaint for me. I guess I was expecting something more Sword of Stranger like for the climactic battle. But I swear the unresolved epilogue duel had more fight choreography than the former.

My previous attempt to watch RK crash and burned even faster than my attempt at Gintama. lol I really don't fare well with characters like Kenshin and with his distinctive voice and constant "gosaru", I wanted to strangle him 3 episodes in. Might still watch some select episodes as I heard there is some good stuff there animation wise.

<shilling time>You should totally watch Shigurui if you want more instantaneous fights. (Assuming you haven't already.) </shilling time>

I'm thinking the same. And:
If we keep Adlets recent theory in mind, that the barrier was actually only activated after they'd gathered, there is even more suspicion on princess Bunny Ears. She had that excessive outbreak in episode 4, where she seemingly tried to release the barrier and destroyed a stone tablet on a pedestal and scatteres some papers.

Agreed. Mora just strikes me as a red herring as the villain that seems to be the most dependable/leaderish person in the group. It's still be hard for the princess to have a heel turn from what we've seen but her suspicious attitude change about the barrier a couple eps ago is a clue.

Lupin III: L`avventura Italiana 1-4

Just got done watching the first 4 episodes and, aside from a little sense of disconnect in the first episode, the rest was overall pretty nice.
I liked the continuity in the flow of the episodes in how episode 1 through 3 are linked to each other because of the setting or a character.
The first episode showed some parked 3D cars, so I'm sure duckroll will love it.

The sad part is that despite the backlash, they kept the shitty Opening song unveiled before, although on the positive side is that I only had to listen to it once: they never showed it again for the rest of the episodes and being the channel shit, they cut the ending after a couple seconds to show ads, but the ED was just the opening again so no real loss.

Japan's shit taste shouldn't surprise me anymore but it still sorta disappointments me regularly.

Gangsta 09 was pretty sweet even if the past 2 episodes have had some REALLY rough art. Any far shot of Alex looks like a completely different person drawn by my nephew. Kinda had an inkling that Nick was pretty much lying to fight harder and harder fights though the entire why of it is still open.

Meanwhile Ginger became a quick favorite the first time I saw her and she damn well earned it today. I have a thing for shy/scared but easily the most dangerous characters. Also, she stacked which helps.

Charlotte 9

Damn, wasn't expecting that. This is getting great.

Cant believe it took 9 goddamn episodes though.

Yuu's "real" power however is badass. He's gonna be so OP by the finale.

Gangsta - 09

This show is so freaking good.
What a bloodbath. Erica and Mikhael don't mess around.
Can't wait to see how this will turn out, since a bunch of new, most likely powerful, enemies were briefly shown and Nicolas
isn't really that strong apparently
. Also interested in how the invenitable meetup between Alex and
her brother, who's conveniently on the enemy side
will turn out.
It's such a shame that shows like this never sell well in Japan...

Exactly.

The last Aragami in God Eater 3 was seriously scary, I was like "Ha, how big could it be... Oh no." most of the time in this episode I was scratching my head how could they do all of those moves haha.

Is it important to know anything about the Fate/ universe to enjoy Kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya?

Manglobe is sort of infamous for having shows that look pretty good at the beginning, but really crash closer towards the end. Thankfully, their finales typically spared this to at least some degree.

This episode is particular had characters that looked like they're melting at times.

Normally I'd be annoyed about a recap episode coming up, but damn, Manglobe probably needs that time to fix their busted animation.

Arslan Senki 21

Interesting that Arslan is willing to play a little loose with the truth to get the most out of his soldiers, though these idiots might doom the entire war effort.

Episode felt like it was trying to avoid having action, probably to save some budget for whatever they're planning for a finale.

Wonder if this is gonna go full anime ending, or give us another season.

just watched the first 4 episodes of Lupin 2015, I think it was a pretty good start. episode 3 and 4 (Jigen solo) were the ones I liked the most. episode 3 had
as main villain MI6 james bond with super hearing powers, he was also able to dodge bullets.
it was pretty hilarious.

however I need to rewatch them because I missed some parts and the japanese dub is probably superior.

Just realize watching Ghost Stories back to back making it a bit harder to continue watching. Might need to watch another show to make it easy to watch Ghost Stories.

I love me some huge creatures. I hope they're going to fight that thing somewhere along to line, even though I have no idea how that would work.

Hmm... The story is self-contained, so that's not a problem. But I think it's more enjoyable if you have a bit of background knowledge.
I'd say watch at least Fate/Zero before going into it. But if you're not into something dark, there is also no problem just jumping into Prisma☆Illya right away.

Have to say, after finish watching this show, I go around the web to see what other people impression of this show and see how they analyze it. Also, after let it sink it a bit, I will have to say this show might become one of my favourite show I have watch in my collection. They're other great show I have watch as of now but this show take it one step further in my opinion. I guess I will break it down in my small impression about this show.

The story of Wolf Rain takes place in a world where it used to have a very rich society in history and culture. Unfortunately, for some reason, something have happened and this rich society is slowly crumble down to the point where the survivor in this world is just trying to stay alive. They're two type of class in this world, the noble (think of them as the wealthy elite) and the commoner (people who is trying to stay alive in this dark bleak word). They don't push too much about what is happening to the world till quarter way of the show. This help the show quite a bit as it focus more into the characters you will be following in the show. You're following a main character name Kiba, who is a wolf but can change into a human when needed to in disguise. His main mission in the entire show was to find paradise which the wolf can go to and live in peace. Along the way, he got pick up by three other wolf which he meet at the beginning of the show (Hige, Toboe, & Tsume). All have different personality but somehow join together as a pack of wolf to find this new place of paradise. Along the way, they will be secondary characters in the show who will be following range from the wolf hunter who you meet in the 1st episode who hunt down wolf, a female scientist who is interested in the wolf story, a mysterious girl who have the power to show the wolf the paradise, to a nobleman who want to get to paradise as a way to help his lover and his dark past.

For the story, they don't really push the detail on the audience or try to explain it. It make the audience to try to look into the finer detail of the back-story. This back story of why wolves are considered by the nobles are divine. Why the nobles feel like they're different from the common people. Also, what just happened 200 years ago which cause the world from the most technological to just barely struggle to stay alive. The show also cross references religious idea and mythologies to reveal a incorporated theme. The wolves in the story have to face different type of trials like despair, distrust, confusion, and the false paradise which could offer joy for their individuality. While at the same time, the human have to struggle with their own type of trials like denial, preferring comfort than facing the truth of what will happened to them, and many more. In the way, the writer of Wolf Rain did something that you don't see too often in most anime show. It make you think as you watch the show without trying to force all the philosophy and region stuff into your mouth.

One of the bigger strength from Wolf Rain is the character development from almost all the main and secondary characters in this show. At the beginning when you're introduce the four main wolf, they have a very limited personalities on them but just enough so you have an idea of what they are. For Kiba, he have a strong personalities while Hige have a playful tone and know how to function in the human society. For Toboe, a shy who like to help up everyone while Tsume, have a rough self reliant tone and don't give a rat of anyone. As you process during the show, they development start to get complex and detail. You start to understand they past life and see how they personalities change to the point where all start to work together as a pack. Even in trouble time where mistrust is starting to seep into the wolf pack, all still work together as a team and will protect each other. You also feel it during the show which make you wish those pack of wolf will eventually found the paradise they always wanted for.
This isn't stop at the main four characters, the secondary characters also have a much detail and complex personalities. From the wolf hunter who hunt down wolf who eventually accept them, to the female scientist who manage to rekindle the love of her divorce husband as both have change during the show as they realize what will happened to the world. All of this will get very emotional as you start watch the last four episodes as all the characters you follow during the show will have a tragic end even though you wish all of them have a good ending. But this tragic ending and how strong the character development between all the major and secondary character make the ending of the show even more powerful for the audience when they watch it that it will stay in you after you finish watching the show.

The music soundtrack from this show might be one of the best soundtrack I have heard for a long while. Not surprising as it was composed by Yoko Kanno. I guess most fans here know her now as she make quite a bit good music but this show might be one of her best work. Almost all the music used in this show are beautiful and make the emotional scene very powerful when need to be while at the same time, never overwhelms the story when used during the show. Another good things from this show soundtrack is how nice to listening the music outside of the anime. The orchestration score is great to listen to and (in my opinion) sound like a soundtrack from a movie as it doesn't have those anime soundtrack feel you hear from other anime show. Not that it's a bad thing but you can play this at work and most people don't mind the music at all.

Something I don't talk about much in my impression is the dubbing. Most of the time, I watch my anime in Japanese dub as this is how it was shown in Japan. Once a while I will try to rewatch certain show in English dub and well...it always come in mix result like Spice and Wolf have a decent Eng dub while Love Hina should only watch in Japanese dub. For Wolf Rain, the English dub might be one of the best dub I have listen to after Spice and Wolf and got to say, it might be the best way to watch this show. Literally, every voice actors who voices all the main and secondary characters and even characters who are there for five minutes in the show goes one step beyond what is needed when playing their roles.

Overall, I would say this. Wolf Rain is one of the most rewarding show I have watch for a while. Not only it's entrainment to watch but it's have quite a few strong quality trait which push the show better. This strength and how mature the story is make me want to recommend this show to anyone who didn't watch it yet. Also, do try to go in with a clean slate without any expectation as this will help you enjoy the show even more like I did when watching it.

I remember I watched one episode and was bored with it and dropped it. But I was quiet young and I liked very different stuff back then. I will someday give this another chance. Thanks for the write up!

Gangsta 09

This show is excellent. Sure there are moments in which the art is janky, but the story is awesome. Nic is a "faker" which didn't surprise me at all with all the drugs and stuff. Also FUUUUCK at little brother at the end! I called it last week!!

God Eater 06

Yeah still going in its own direction, keeping close to the game with certain aspects but telling a story of its own. Alisa's reaction is in the game but in a different way, great episode overall. Also to those who played the game only, potential spoilers
isn't around this part in the game when Alisa snaps that Lindow gets left behind?
Do you think they will use that for the anime too?

Baby Steps 2 22:
Ei-chan and Nat-chan having some tender moments together is always nice, and we get some good comedy from that with everyone else watching on. Ei-chan's scene with Araya was also pretty good. I like their interactions with each other. And finally, after a long season's worth of setup, we're getting to the main event, and seeing a rematch against Nabae. I think we're going to be in for a legendary match over the coming episodes. No matter how everything breaks, it should wind up being close.

Damn, that got bloony real quick. Looks like their fav. woman has a pair as well and I'd willing to help out with the tough stuff. Question though, are Erica and that little shithead twilights?

Yeah, no way monsters like Mikhail or Erica are normals. Not with the level of Tags they've been murdering. They probably just don't wear tags, which I always thought was kinda weird anyways.

Also, I wanna continue with Laplace but...I really can't. I'll write up some thoughts later why I think it had a ton of potential and kinda shat it's pants bad.

Damn, I missed his having tags....

Also, thread was incredibly slow this weekend. Everyone trying to get their last minutes of vacation in?

I am honestly just tired after a weekend of work. You know when you feel too lazy to watch anything or play anything and just spend time either staring at your screen or googling random shit? After Gangsta and God Eater I was planning on watching a movie, I have Django Unchained right here. I'm just too lazy to press play.

re: Okita. It seems really weird to devote quite a bit of space in an already time-constrained OVA to such a pointless character.

Pretty sure he's left in due to both historical significance and what I presume is faithfulness to the source material. It probably makes more sense in context with the TV series as he's a character Saitou respected but, much like Kenshin's route through life, ultimately another compatriot who lost his life back then even if it was due to disease. As such, both Saitou and the psychotic half of Kenshin end up men effectively displaced in time, the warrior with no fulfilling role in a time of peace. Okita himself isn't quite forgotten though as there's a character based on him come the Kyoto arc, not so much the personality but more appearance and what if someone as skilled as Okita survived to the present day in the show.

As for Shirugui, it's been backlogged for a while now. :lol

Also, thread was incredibly slow this weekend. Everyone trying to get their last minutes of vacation in?

No doubt the judicious use of preview leading people to make better posts or none at all.

It's interesting so far, but hard to get really invested when it's doing the person of the week thing. I assume that will end at some point and make way for more plot stuff? I should be caught up tomorrow, so guess we'll see what happens. Misa is the best tho idc The little sister is pretty adorable as well.

I just don't post much because there's not much to talk about. I'm getting through City Hunter 2 at a brisk pace and I'm writing up my Cobra review, enough said really :p I guess that's a byproduct of me not watching newer series, there's nothing to converse about. The thread has gotten a lot slower after that fateful day, but its for the best. When something of note shows up, be it an announcement or an eventful episode or industry news in general, the comments will return. Either that, or somebody (probably myself) will make a controversial comment and shit will hit the fan for an hour or two.

One of these days I need to check Planetes out. Gonna add it to my "to watch list".
If you care at all about organic character and plot development, great dialogue, and incredibly well-written hard science fiction, you need to put it on your "must watch" list.

It's also hilarious, and the emotional parts hit hard without being unearned or overly saccharine.

It gets better. I just caught up from 5-9 today myself. The first few episodes are a chore and are largely pointless but it does get very interesting.
