I would love to see a low budget remake of MG1 that keeps the top-down style but updates the graphics and introduces some new gameplay elements. It wouldn't be some $60 AAA title, but something they would release for like $15 on digital platforms. Maybe Kojima wanted to do something with MG1 after this game but now we will never know.

Well almost 18 months ago he said TPP would introduce inconsistencies with MG1 and he wanted to remake it in some fashion to clear these up but they didn't have the budget/manpower to get it done in time so I guess it wouldn't be a full fledged title but more like a sizeable DLC for TPP, in terms of a set area (Outer Heaven) and could last a few hours etc. I mean unless you remade MG1 and MG2 together after TPP I'm not sure you could convince Konami (obligatory fuck Konami) that it'd be worth the budget etc.

Can anyone who finished the game make a by mission summary of what story beats happen in all 40+ main missions?

Are most of them filler missions? I'm assuming they are more like side ops rather than actual story missions?

That's a general feeling I'm getting by the amount of story beats we are getting versus the 40+story missions number.

Go to your medbay, find a dark corridor with a door you can open.

Thanks.

I really shouldn't have asked. Oh dear. That certainly was something.

I can't give you an exact breakdown but most of them are related to the story in some way. That definitely doesn't mean you get 40 cutscenes with story beats. You finish some of them and you end up back on the chopper with an "Oh well that didn't pan out but I know Skull Face/Cipher/whatever is behind this somehow".

I would at least wanted to know how BB ends up the commander of Fox again. It would of been kinda cool to see it come full circle and see BB give SS his first mission. I'm I wrong for that

I could see a scenario where he's back with the Patriots for a while before the AI inevitably takes over and takes his body hostage (that's still canon right? Or was that body Venom's or.... bahhh).

That would have been the only thing the twist would have made simpler. Big Boss goes to the states and continues FOXHOUND and has nothing to do with Outer Heaven.

But no, he's just doing eviler shit.

So dumb.

WORDS AND DEEDS

Someone should make a Quiet thread before both this and the OT blow up lol.

Mods pls someone make one.

Is words and deeds euphemism for boobs? I can see why people would be ashamed of theirs when seeing this. Quiet is full of life

I don't even know what he is doing that is "evil" all he did is body switch with someone. From the looks of it he is just letting shit rock and chilling watching Venom Snake do his thing

I'll tag this for safeties sake, but
are we to assume the Medic had no relatives, children or friends who would have been happy to know he was alive?

Seems like such a dick move. To view yourself so highly that you need to be preserved, even despite having a duplicate as effective as yourself. To turn a man into you for the sake of having a few years to relax.

It's even worse for the character than if he was just one guy.

Starting Outer Heaven in Zanzibar.

The guide.
So... I need to unlock "butterfly front" for my my MB insignia or as an emblem (like the animal rankings post mission)?
And I have to do this before a certain mission?
I'm sorry, I can't find the information anywhere.

Side Op 150 - Secure Quiet

Availability: The following four conditions must be fulfilled for this side op (and Mission 45, which immediately follows it) to be triggered:
- You spared Quiet’s life at the end of Mission 11
- Quiet is available (she is not recuperating).
- Your Bond with Quiet is at its maximum level
- You have seen the cutscene at Mother Base where a scientist is exiled.

-You do not use the “Butterfly (front)” design in your emblem.

Note that completing this assignment immediately triggers Mission 45, so make sure you are fully prepared beforehand.

Having gotten zero mentions at all I'm not sure Zanzibar land is even canon anymore. May not have been him anyway.

Venom
wasn't his idea so it's not like he's that big of a narcissist. I mean, he did let it happen for all that time but... yeah....

What did he do that was so evil in Zanzibar, I know it something to do with oil I think? One of the reasons I was looking forward to this game, is I wanted to see the fall of BB. Where his vengeance for Zero and Skullface consumes him and he has no limit. Doesn't look like I'm getting that, and the whole view of Snakes and Zero's war that went on for 30 years wasn't even true. What makes it worst is this is the last MGS. FUCK you Konami

Guys, who is the Big Boss in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake??
The Phantom or the real Big Boss?? :\

Despite Huey's logical complaint of "You crazy people had a nuke armed mech on an oil platform in the carribean and I'M THE BAD GUY?!", BB comes off as the good guy all along in TPP. Going by that I'd say it was The Phantom.

According to the timeline it's the real Big Boss in MG2's Zanzibar. It's also the real Big Boss on Solid's codec/at Foxhound in MG1, but the one Snake encounters physically and defeats is the Phantom/Venom.

I'm still not clear if it is Big Boss or the Phantom who creates MG1's Outer Heaven. Obviously Venom occupies it in the end, but there's a tape with Ocelot where he says Big Boss is creating the real Outer Heaven behind the scenes and I'm not sure if he means MG1 Outer Heaven or if the "real" OH is Zanzibar.

So what the hell was BB doing all this time through out the MGS Sega?

Venom dies during the Outer Heaven uprising in MG1, real BB is MG2.

Big Boss does not come across as a good guy, he's revealed as a hypocrite and no better than Cipher/Patriots/US government for going along with the Venom ruse.

Where is this timeline? The guide?

I don't even remember the events of two. Judging by this wiki it seems like it was BB trying to setup a country for real and failing when Solid stopped him. Why Solid would be stopping him if he's the real one and Solid was his subordinate and...he could have just told Solid what was going on or...

mmm.....

He's certainly not the guy I feared he'd be from the pre-release trailers of him appearing to shoot at orphans. The worst crimes you can lay at his feet seem to be in MG2, which I haven't played in many years. If he had to take some drastic measures to fight the oncoming Patriot takeover of society, that's not inherently evil. Venom predates his knowledge of Zero's AI related plans but I'll admit that he definitely went along with it. That's not the worst crime in the world, though it's definitely pretty rotten and he's a party to it. I'm not sure what the context was for him sending in Solid Snake to take out Venom beyond "No, I'm the real one, screw your Outer Heaven" though, so if that was literally all there was to it, I digress.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I thought the story of MGS4 was bad but this takes the biscuit. Every game post-MGS3 has introduced so many stupid fakeouts that there is no sincerity at all. Kojima has become a hack.

Pretty much how I feel. The story went completely off the rails after MGS3, which is quite an achievement considering how it already was.

MGS4, PW and now this have devalued the canon to the point of meaningless. It's the kind of destruction only someone who can't be challenged is only capable of. The fucking George Lucas of gaming.

Nothing. He was in a coma. In MG2, Solid Snake defeats him but the Patriots secure and heals his body.

Where are you guys getting the info that it was him in MG2? The guide?

It did rather seem like the game was answering questions either GZ or itself posed. The (completely predictable from the minute you turn on the game if you're looking for it) twist is self-contained payoff within the game. There's really no shocking twist to be had outside of BB not being the guy from MG1 and even that isn't Earth shattering. The Paz thing is neat (the implication that GZ had a false narrator is neat anyway, the actual cutscene is hard to watch) but kind of irrelevant for anything going forward. I don't know that we even really gained any insight into Liquid (we knew he was arrogant...we knew he had father issues). There was no one moment in the thing that makes you rethink the rest of the series. If there is I haven't processed it yet.

It's funny that Kojima felt the need to explain how Big Boss survived Outer Heaven, in a series where basically everyone at some point "died" and came back without a second thought. The origin story of Big Boss is really a mess now, it's a shame, MGS3 was pretty much perfect in this regard, one could clearly see the consequence of that mission and how and why Naked Snake became Big Boss.

So is the medic tricked into being Big Boss or is he in on it from the beginning? He seemed fine with it at the end with that smirk in the mirror. If he was tricked, then I don't understand why the doctor would show him his old face before changing him to BB's face.

If he wasn't tricked, then I don't see what BB did that was so evil. Actually, what did Venom do that was so bad? I didn't watch the entire stream, but from what I did get, he didn't seem to be any worse than he was in MGS3 or PW.

Also, how long was OG Big Boss in a coma? He's been looking over the medic for 9 years, but we see him go into a coma at the beginning of the cutscene for mission 46. The medic also just happened to go into a coma too?
