Metal Gear Solid V: Forward Operating Base (FOB)

Welp, this shit just killed my desire to play what was IMO a damned near perfect game before I was forced to build an FOB.

This is kind of freaking me out. I just cleared my platform and unlocked the ability to build a FOB but haven't done anything with it. I even went offline immediately.

I don't have time to play everyday and now I'm worried that I'm gonna get robbed blind. Can that really happen? If so, I wish I could go back in time not finish mission

.

That's a real problem if you're game makes me wish I could go back in time and not play it...

No, since if you get invaded you're locked down for six hours. People can only invade once every six hours.

i'm loath to actually go back to this after 4 days because i just know a load of my staff is going to be nicked.

Horrible fucking mode that should have an opt-out.

Just back your save up. Load up. If you were invaded, let the game "sync" by pressing Ok and accepting the losses. Then quit the game. Put your backed up save on. Restart the game, no losses given.

Ooh that's reassuring... Nope, not reassuring. I appreciate the info but man, this mode is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I also saw your tips on using backup saves but again, what a pain in the ass.

Turns out you can't mix Lethal/Non-Lethal on the same platform.

My bad.

Anyway, I like the Non-Lethal guys. The Sneaking Suit looks cooler and they can also put down those sleeping gas mines.

And for some reason my game crashes when it's at the "Drop into this position" part of invading a FOB. I click OK and it just freezes. Luckily I can exit out to the Home screen to close it there.

There's a way to avoid FOB invasions.

The Steps
If you have already unlocked your FOB and have beaten the mock-infiltration, then sorry, you must restart your save, or ask someone that has not completed mission 22 for their save game.

1. The first time you deploy on mission 21, shortly in the beginning of the mission you will get a call about an invasion in your MB (mission 22).

2. Accept the alert and complete mission 22.

3. Game will ask you to purchase FOB, get it. Those that restart will not need to buy it again.

4. When the tutorial for a mock-infiltration pops up, DO NOT start it. It is imperative that you NEVER complete the mock-infiltration tutorial.

5. To get out of the forced screen, break the internet connection in the game in any way you want.

That's it. Remember to never complete the tutorial.

Things to Look Out For

-If you access the iDroid while in the ACC, then you will be in the forced screen again. You must repeat step 5. If you are in your ACC, then do NOT use the iDroid while connected. Hit esc and disconnect before entering the iDroid while in the ACC.

-If you want to connect online (to get dailies or build more FOBs) without seeing the forced screen, then connect online outside of the ACC. In other words, connect in the MB, or connect during a mission, side ops, or free roam.

-Make sure you are disconnected when in the ACC.

Are there any Xbox One players here that are able to connect to the servers? I hate being a broken record on this, but sweet Lord in heaven I still can't fucking CONNECT. I want to do the online shit.

i really wouldn't worry about it that much. i make up any losses in like one side op of randomly fultoning dudes and the resource losses don't seem very heavy. I am in scrub tier FOBs though.

I don't want to lose soldiers, but at the same time it's an exciting feature. It's kind of like in Watch Dogs, invading someone is awesome, and so is the thrill of hiding, but looking for the person is very stressing.

I prefer it here, since the attacker has every single chance of losing, and I have buddies, cameras, drones and mines with me. Come get some bwahahaha.

I haven't checked if I've been invaded. I've probably lost all my soldiers.

My problem with the FOB is, I barely have the time to manage my Mother Base and continue with the story, and now I'm forced to manage and defend my FOB as well. It'll take months for me to finish the game if I have to deal with FOB on top of the single play features. Let me play the game in peace, at my own pace.
Thanks Konami (and Kojima), but no thanks.

I don't think so since the game doesn't explain it very well and neither does the guide. This Wednesday at Tokyo Game Show, they're going to do a FOB presentation explaining how it works.

Hopefully they'll leave nothing unanswered.

Lol AFTER the game is already out?

i always get on offline because i didn't fully understand the system and i don't get the appeal in being interrupted in the middle of missions because some dude decided to infiltrate my base or something. just comes off as unappealing to me, but maybe i need to understand it better.

on a side note, there's a lot of things about this game that i wish were explained better, i remember when i first got quiet and i couldn't use her at all lol

Indeed, it was posted earlier and clearly it should be in the OP. Actually it would be great to have info of any sort in the OP.

Added Steam community link regarding steps to avoiding the use of FOBs to the OP. When I get time I'll try and some more info on there. Good call.

Does anyone know if the upgraded versions of decoys and mines show up on your FOB defenses?

I had to develop them initially to place them on FOB defense, but no idea if continuing to upgrade them has any effect...

Thanks.

Sneaking past 43 snipers was a thrill. I thought I could tranq them at first but I ended up having to crawl to the 3/4 development strut and crawl under a uav and next to 6 snipers to get to the door.

All for revenge.

When you choose a Platform you can then choose the different decks, it will say "1st Deck", "2nd Deck", etc.

After making changes it will ask you if you want to apply the changes to all decks or just the one you've selected so just choose to only apply changes to the one you've selected.
Huh, that's weird, when I pick the decks each I can only specify the numbers of guards and various defenses + patrol zones, no lethal/non-lethal. I can only do lethal/non-lethal for All Decks.

(Crossposting from the OP) About 60 hours into the game. I haven't gotten infiltrated once-- no resources taken, no nothing, Could it be because I don't have PSplus? God, it would suck if I can't get that one FOB trophy be ause I can't play multiplayer.

I'm only on Mission 10 so far but have a question.

Correct if I'm wrong, but once beating Mission 22 what incentive do I have for staying connected online if I don't want to play the FOB infiltration mode?

I'm thinking I will log in for the daily reward and disconnect immediately to avoid this mode...or can you be invaded even while offline? :/

You can be invaded even while offline.
You have to skip mock-infiltration tutorial as stated on the guide above to completely avoid FOB invasions.

Mannnnnn...seems like a weird thing not to let people opt out of.
Single player only brah over here

I don't find it that big a deal since the resources stolen are all tied to the online base and not your regular game and a few soldiers nicked here and there means barely anything by the time FOBs are unlocked. I just set all my security to max and forgot about it to be honest.

Of course I am a
monster that gave up attacking legit FOBs because fuck anything with 20+ guys and drones and started preying on the plump and defenseless ones
so I might be looking at things from the other side of the fence

Thanks for that The1Ski. If you want to add FAQs or tips to the OP then I'm sure the guys posting in here can help.

Just completed the tutorials and created my FOB last night. What happens if I just don't go online anymore, i.e. decline the online terms of use when booting up or immediately disconnect from the pause menu after loading up my save? Can I still lose personnel and resources?

In any case I think I'm gonna stay online at least for a few days and see how the whole thing goes. The thing that worries me the most is the cheaters since I'm playing on PC...

If you go offline your shit can still be stolen. If you stay offline your game won't be updated with that info though... until you do eventually go online again, at which point all of your shit will be taken away simultaneously. The only way to prevent this was posted a few days ago:

For those playing on PC, I found this guide detailing a way to avoid the FOB infiltrations. I can't confirm that it works, but I am a little more encouraged to start the game with this option available to me.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=515683334

I'm going to do this until I've built up my FOB. To continue to play the sp game but still reap the benefits of the FOB. Once I have configured and bought enough security measurements I may go online at some point to reap the rewards from successful defends and try the infiltrating mission.

I was offline when I started mission 21 and finished 22, so currently I only have a full security team and the option to build a FOB. Game is running in suspend mode on PS4 so I don't have to deal with the daily login anyway and later I will just travel to motherbase and go online from there to build the base w/o infiltrating.
Are there any other FOB related options that are only available in the ACC+online?

From then on I have to go online briefly like once a day to collect the daily bonus and the produced FOB resources while not being in the ACC, right?

So only the things I steal from other people's FOB appear on my FOB, and that's represented by the resources next to the circle/globe, right?

Can anyone explain PF points to me? So far my FOB has generated 0 lol!

Is it because my FOB is tiny and only maybe almost a day old?

Or is it a feature that has been turned off due to server load?

So, if I disable my PS4's internet connection in Network settings, can I avoid all this FOB BS so I can enjoy the SP campaign, or is it not that simple?

Somehow I'm guessing it's not...

I have no idea how or when FOB starts in MGS, but in the OP is a link with an explanation, how to avoid FOB Missions. Maybe that helps you (it is a link from the steamcommunity, maybe pc only).

I've been going back and forth with one dude the past few days and he's starting to get the better of me. He's figured out when I play and he makes sure to invade my base while I'm at work and be online to defend his base when I get home. What are some good base invasion strats? Last time I lost because he pulled out a shield and a grenade pistol.

I think I finally ran into a cheater last night. I hit this guy with a grenade launcher about 40 times and he would not die. I still beat him thought because I CQCed him and fultoned his ass out.

I wonder if defenders respawn if you fulton them.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Do the machine guns/mortars/AA guns that I fulton in the full game actually get used and/or useful in FOB or should I just sell them all?

I don't have PS Plus, but I'm still online, so I get all the benefits of FOB without interacting with the invasions mechanic at all. (I can do training invasions of my own bases if I want the variety of almost a third map) I'm at levels 3 and 2 on all FOB platforms and 3 to 4 on my main ones, so I'm living pretty healthy now.

I think they get used. They show up on my main base and I think the FOB. But I think they're useless because the soldiers can't adequately use them anyway. If anything they've only hurt me because the invader will use them against me and my soldiers.
