Tekken 3 is pretty much the prime example of how you progress a storyline- create a new main character, and not lose your audience... in fact it's still the highest selling Tekken title.
I thought Mark of the Wolves did a fantastic job in that regard too, with Terry (and Kapwan kids) being the only reps from previous fatal furies... of course that game had an even smaller following than Third Strike though.

There were so many issues surrounding the relative lack of success of Street Fighter 3 (Arcades were on the downswing, 3D was starting to get big, etc.) that I'm not sure if the take away should be "let's be very conservative with the roster" rather than just "lets be more conservative than we were with SF3". There's a spectrum there and I don't think they needed to be as far on the conservative side as they are being - times are different.
Again, well known =/= popular. Not that I'm arguing Urien is more popular than Honda because I don't have numbers on me but just because more people know Honda doesn't mean they actively care about Honda.

MKX's DLC model is very different.
They pretty clearly didn't have any interesting ideas for her- she's in because she's hyper-popular and an OG.
I just meant the number. That way you wouldnt have people getting hyped for events , then get dissapointed when its an obvious character returning.

Juri was in SF4. I am quite confident that the reaction for her would murder the reaction for Gief or Vega. She is very popular, and thanks to SSF4+ selling multi-millions, she is also pretty darn familiar now.
We've gotten to the point where including the entire WW roster is no longer necessary. There are now other characters who are both popular AND familiar (Juri), rather than just familiar (Honda).

The problem is that Q, Oro, Twelve, Remy, Gill, and Necro are all great characters who need to return, so I was struggling to come up with one I actively disliked.

There was so many people championing mika and Karin and I legit only see 1/3rd of those people continuing to post here

I didn't champion either of those two characters (come on Juri!), but I don't post here all that often anymore. Thread moves way to fast so I just lurk.
So, where is everyone getting the timeline from? I have been following the game very closely and I don't remember a single mention of when it takes place. Is this just popular speculation?
As for the worst of each release...

Yea but they aren't picking unpopular characters like Honda or Thawk. Gief and Vega have pretty big fan bases. Especially gief is a fan favorite .Even if vega is slightly less popular than Juri his mainstream appeal balances it out. Not saying Juri is bad pick , but these weren't too bad either .
Maybe they should have gone for Sagat over sim.
If they were added with some kind of tag team mechanic people would be interested . People hate them because they are generic canny clones.

I love Gill's dialogue but his playstyle seems pretty obvious, aside from his Resurrection super. I like Twelve because of his playstyle although he won't be in V because of how hard it would be to do him 3D outside the Xrd engine.

Bison having his teleport dash as default seems insane lol. Guess they know what they are doing, but talk about scary.
He's a good boss but a bad playable character , if that makes sense.

The easiest way to follow the SF timeline is to look at Ken. He met Eliza in Alpha, married her in 2, his son was born in SF4 and his son is learning how to fight under him with Sean in SF3. Also I believe Urien says Shadaloo has fallen in 3
I don't "hate" them. I think they are bland. Personally, I think they could very easily be turned into more interesting characters. I also agree with the tag team sentiment; that would be pretty cool. Unfortunately, R. Mika has already sorta moved in on that territory (at least a little).
I definitely think their look is better than Cammy's... Mainly because their clothing choices aren't waging war on their vaginas...

No Dhalsim rumor to my knowledge, just speculation based on his playstyle. I know there was one rumor list with him in it, but it had too many characters in it.

But that is the best part about him! He has the best unintentionally funny ending in a fighting game!

The only speculation is where V takes place. The rest of the timeline is 100% canon, if V is anywhere it's more than likely be before 3 and show the fall of Shadaloo.

They're generic as hell, why would people like them when there's nothing to like? And that's coming from a huge Cammy fan.
Personally I haven't been posting in these threads much because I was thoroughly satisfied when Karin got announced, so I am at peace, thirst quenched and all that. My own reaction to the Gief reveal as I saw that thread title was "huh, gief's in,okay" and then I saw the trailer and was like yeah that Zangief. Pretty underwhelming, but it's not like I don't like Gief though. So that's my own perspective on it.
