First 40 minutes of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

I want some meat in the Modern World segment! If I can't get that, then I don't know how much longer I can support this franchise.

The white outline around the highlighted person is so fucking stupid. Why do games always do this?

And holy shit the floating hoola hoop thingy. Why?

Are the devs content with this game?

There is nothing new here, nothing here looks good or enjoyable. It doesn't seem like this game was created to strive for something, but rather "we need one of these out this year".

And I have always fucking hated when people use the term "ubifactory" because its degrading to the people who obviously put a lot of effort into making these games, but fuck... this game really makes it hard to defend because it feels so devoid of any inspiration.

Did a double take at the start. Didn't even realize that was Shaun and Rebecca for a minute there.

Continuing the franchise's strong tradition of making characters look wildly different every entry. This drives me crazy. (Or, well, it did when I was still invested in the story, at least.)

Not every developer has grand aspirations at making a creative masterpiece. Many are probably just happy with the job stability of a successful annual franchise, which is really uncommon in the gaming industry.

The best looking thing about it is that Evie looks cool when she sneaks around and whips ass with her cane. Other than the nice visuals, that is about all I can really say.

On the bad side, watching this boring opening, I'm reminded how awesome the first 40 minutes of AC3 were by comparison (which is sad considering it's AC3).

On the bright side, this game has gorgeous visuals. Very impressive transition to actual gameplay after getting the layout of the factory.

It is pretty jarring how the NPC just wander about as you slaughter people, and get in the way as you try to escape. But that's pretty normal for an AC game. I guess it doesn't look as bad as I initially expected. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to progress without being pulled into a scripted battle here and there... It's like they force you out of stealth.

40 minutes of Assassin's Creed being played shittily. Can't say I disagree with the criticisms against this game, but this gamer's ineptitude certainly isn't helping. At least the soundtrack is nice.

Some of those load times are pretty embarrassing. I mean

*loading*
exterior shot of train
*loading*
cutscene inside the train

come on, you can do better than that.

Funnily enough, just seeing that parkour gameplay I do get a bit of an itch in my fingers again. Might bite when it's real cheap.

Yeah, especially the theater part was a real eyecandy. This is quite tame in comparison.

What a waste, if they had waited a couple of years to let the fatigue wear off before taking on Victorian London it could have been something special.

As someone that got Unity for review and scored it a 7.5. I'm surprised by this game so far and had no expectations for it. If your expecting some huge difference in gameplay though, your looking at the wrong franchise of games.

You gave Unity 7.5?

And by surprises, what exactly is surprising about it?

Man, I don't know why, but I was under the impression that you got to pick a character and play as them through the whole game. I was excited about just playing Evie and ignoring another generic male protagonist in this series that hasn't offered anyone fun since Ezio.

Hearing that's not the case kills any lingering interest I had in what seems like a soulless shell of a series I once adored.

Good god, leave this to die and gimme more PoP, Ubi.
so boring.
shoulve ended at the 2 trilogy , 4 was a nice spinoff and thats it.

I don't think they need to get real big into the story while opening the game up. Remember AC1? It was like, let's learn how to move through people and what not.

You felt like the story in the older era was sorta what you were going to focus on regardless of the plot. This thing seems to move and breath in the Victorian era and then just confuse you about modern day.

I never see anyone wearing that kind of hat. She's very trendy (not bad looking), but you feel like Ubisoft is going to make their own line of hipster clothes now. It's a young look on her. I don't really care for those Dickies pants she's wearing, but oh well.

Is it just me or is stealth completely unnecessary at the factory? The player first starts going stealth around the NPC's, but later, he walks around the NPC's and they don't seem to give a shit. Also, NPC's getting in your way when you run looks super annoying. Well, on the bright side, the game seems to run fine and looks great. Do we have confirmation on the resolution on PS4 yet? Last I heard it was 900p.

Not even impressive graphically,

So much of that was in the rain, I was thinking that it should look incredible. Devs love putting things in the rain so they can show off how impressive their lighting systems are, but it just looked so bland.

Yes. It had issues, but there was some good things about it and 7.5 I thought was a fair score, even now.

Surprising as in characters, dialog, missions, setting, I mean the idea of your base being on a moving train is cool. I've got a lot more to play though before getting a solid picture, but the game seems much more intent on getting me into the game and world quickly.

Wow.
That's a big ol' plate of "meh."

I'll buy it when the price matches the average framerate on consoles.

About $23 and some change.

I always try and like the Assassin's Creed games. I bought the last 2. I play a few hours and just have no interest in going on. I keep trying though. :/

It makes me sad that the AC games are the only ones touching these historical open world settings in video games.

Because it means a bunch of assets being held down by sloppy controls and non-human AI behaviors

And the 2 main characters seem obnoxious as fuck

Was going to say the same thing. From that video it does seem to be running pretty good. I know you cannot fully tell by watching a youtube video, but at least it seems to be running better than the previous game.

It def does. There is some stutter at times, but def a much smoother experience then prior.

The factory part had no guards. It was literally the first room in the game. It's there to teach you the controls. Although on the topic of NPCs, wasn't NPCs getting in your way a selling point for AC1? Like crowds would could help stall pursuers but also get in your way? Was that ever really a mechanic in the series?

is going to run sub 20 fps again on consoles? and barely hitting 30fps on 2k PCs? if so then pass for me.

No indications of it running like Unity, probably gonna hit 30 on consoles with some dips. Who knows with PC, tho; Ubi's not great with PC releases.

I don't remember then advertising your base being a train. That's neat.

While I'd love some more PoP, calling for the death of a series you don't like is kinda ridiculous.

I find the vitriol that the AC series receives in videogame enthusiast sites/forums sorta disturbing, actually. People need to chill.

Can you hide the UI via R3? Really liked that in Unity.

Holy shit, you guys weren't kidding with that ring. Jeeze, I though it was gonna be like a little partial ring of light type deal like in MGSV, not some floating bullshit around the MC. Barf.

Rest of it looks like AC. Nothing much to say there really.
