First 40 minutes of Assassin's Creed: Syndicate

The factory part had no guards. It was literally the first room in the game. It's there to teach you the controls. Although on the topic of NPCs, wasn't NPCs getting in your way a selling point for AC1? Like crowds would could help stall pursuers but also get in your way? Was that ever really a mechanic in the series?
Ok, but why did the player try to stealth through the NPC's, then? Sounds like the player's first time playing the game to me. What's funny is that he tries to be stealthy but ends up running and jumping around like an idiot without anyone giving a shit. As for crowds getting in the way, that sounds more annoying than innovative to me.

That was probably just the player thinking they were in a sneaking sequence. There were literally no guards around. Like the room is obviously designed so that you can go down the middle of the room directly to the door.

No doubt it will review quite well, sell quite well and then we will proceed to have another cookie cutter entry in to the series next year or the year after that doesn't take the series anywhere.

Whilst AC is still only a relatively new franchise it really does need a reboot already. There is so much potential at being able to go back in time as an Assassin yet it's always the already stale - climb a tower, synchronise, leap of faith - auto jump around a few rooftops and yey next shitty mission.

Skipped through the video.
Graphics are nice enough, and frame rate appeared better than Unity.

But the reaction of npc felt off. Guy get killed right in front of a citizen, chady character walks up, handles the body and slides off with little to no reaction. Player continues to sneak around, in plain sight, bumping into others and being in spaces clearly not meant to be with even less reaction from people.

In previous entries, high visibility aggression garnered hysteria. They could have made the people respond to the players appearance more. While going through an office space, walking around blended is a more inconspicuous than hood up, kneeling around.

It's not quite the same thing. It doesn't look like the zipper can actually go up higher than it is, and it does make her look more full-chested than she otherwise would.

If it's a real world clothing item, I'm not sure what it's called.

Are you being serious?

Sucks that the setting is so good yet I don't have much interest in it. I kept buying the games (eventually) because of the settings more than the gameplay since it was stale at that point, but now I'm over it all. They need to go back to drawing board and make something truly unique since they're wasting these historical periods at this point for the same gameplay over and over again.

So much wasted potential yet I'm sure they don't care since this will still well enough I imagine. I wish I could get that feeling I had when exploring Venice as Ezio again but these games are so similar anymore that it feels more like a chore to climb this tower and unlock the same missions over and over again.

I thought Black Flag was just the beginning of the new AC. Just sucks to get tired of one of your favorite franchises and feeling like that sense of wonder is gone for good.

I know that was only the tutorial area but you would have thought they'd have picked a better layout to teach people the ropes. There are far too many people just going about their business without batting an eyelid at the guy who's jumping around and turning off the machinery.

I don't believe it needs a reboot (or that it will have one ever). As much as I dislike where the story went and how the gameplay stagnated, the series has an enormous repository of lore and alternate media, from movies to comics to novels to encyclopedias. Way too much effort has been placed on the universe for them to get rid off (Insert joke about Star Wars EU).

Unless you mean a game design reboot in which case, yeah, the series could use bit of a shake-up, but the fundamentals are solid, at least.

If anything, that footage justifies why AC never had a crouch button until unity. Crouching looks fucking dumb when you are surrounded by people.

what the hell is that character design--she unzipped her jacket just enough to show off her boobs but that's it?

dont try and make an issue where one isnt there. You cant see anything at all, she has a damn tank top under her jacket anyway. I wear a tshirt under an unzipped jacket all the time and so do many other people.

It only looks dumb because there isn't any reaction from the people walking around. If the place was only filled with enemies, and they were well placed, then the stealth would make sense. This just comes over as daft.

I didn't even realise it's coming out in less than a week. Just seems like there's no enthusiasm whatsoever for this game.

I really wonder what Ubisoft would do if this game flops even more than Unity (which was already a big disappointment). Keep riding the AC train until the bitter end? Or try and switch Watch Dogs 2 into that slot next year? Because I'm not sure if that'll fix anything, it's still the same towers, shitty quests and collectables game design we see in all their open world games.

One of the worst, stupid & boring gameplay I have ever seen.
It looks like an average 2d platform game forcefully turned into a 3D version.

Anyone else feel like the graphics look worse than in Unity? Maybe it's the art direction and not a technical deficiency, but the lighting simply doesn't look as realistic or atmospheric.

Its been confirmed for a while. A lot of stuff has been toned down so the game actually performs ok.

Thats the thing though. This series doesn't seem to know if it wants to maintain those social stealth elements, or embrace modern stealth elements. Both of them don't mesh well together. And there is only a vocal reaction from the NPCs. Its basically like how they reacted whenever you climbed stuff in previous games.

Meh, I've played the games since launch. Still playing them as they come.

Different strokes I guess. Unity killed any remaining enthusiasm I had for this series, and what I've seen in Syndicate has done nothing to re kindle that enthusiasm.

I think so too but thought maybe it was just me being burnt out. Unity looks stunning on PC at times but this looks worse than Unity for some reason. Then again, maybe they focused on framerate this time around. :p

I think it's the lighting as well. It's a lot flatter than Unity and the color palette seems more muted which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the mood they're going for.

I would have thought they'd be able to achieve the above with optimisations and engine tweaks rather than actual downgrades. Oh well. Disappointing. Not that I was planning on ever buying this game at anything more than bargain bin pricing.

i wasn't trying to make an issue. it struck me as something very iffy naturally without me trying to force it as a problem or anything. and as i've said earlier in this thread, there's a difference between an unzipped jacket with a t-shirt under it and what's she's wearing.

I don't quite know how I feel about this trend of posting "first x-minutes" of games before they release. It may be okay for some, but I feel like that's a lot of spoiling sometimes.

Anyway, the game itself looks like a decent improvement over Unity, minus visuals. Hopefully they pull it off. I'd love for it to turn out well, even though ubi really just milks this series far too much.

Its a character model from 6 years ago. Of course its not going to hold up that well.

It looks like Assassins Creed and I'm cool with that when it's not a technical mess. So I'll be picking this up sometime later this year.

Either that or that bizarre "insider" thread that was somewhat deciphered to "the quebec team doesn't understand how to use the engine montreal made" might have some weight.

I've come to the conclusion that I far more enjoy these games as pure 'walking through old cities of history' games.
If they could give me a mode that let me walk around an completely unlocked map, with no hostile AI, I think I'd be sorted.

The moment Ubisoft finally puts a bullet in this franchise and lets the teams responsible for these games flex their creative muscle, I will be doing back flips.

Such beautiful worlds shouldn't be wasted on such boring as batshit gameplay.

Just give me a remake of 2 and brotherhood then stop making these games. They're pretty but nothing is new. Almost like WWE games only difference is, I continue to purchased WWE games lol.

Why did you preorder it in the first place if you weren't sure how you felt about it.

Why the hell do people preorder things?

Like, I understand that people hating on preorders is as cliche as preorders at this point, but why on earth is preordering so fucking prevalent on this forum? Why does it seem to be so prevalent among people who play games? Are we a gullible lot? Easy targets? Why does it happen so often. Why is "preorder canceled" used as a pejorative toward games? Why the fuck was the preorder placed? There is no such thing as game shortages in this digital age. There really weren't many game shortages in the pre-digital days. Preordering has always been and always will be useless. It just doesn't make any sense at all why people do it. It's so, so goddamn weird.

That said, I dunno, I actually may pick up Assassins Creed: Syndicate. I've skipped the series the last couple years, but I could be down for some more of it this year.

Man people love to come and shit on AC even if they've not been interested in playing one for years don't they?

Game looks fine (although a step back, I guess because they can't afford another buggy launch). As someone who's barely touched Unity yet though I won't be picking this one up, For me wether I pick one up these days is just in a sale IF it's a setting I'm interested in and London doesn't really do anything for me, I prefer those sunny mainland Europe settings.

Will be interesting to see how this one sells after last years PR disaster, Thought this might have been the year to mix up the gameplay a bit and push it forward but it seems like they're trying to play it as safe as they can.. maybe too safe.

I'm still waiting for them to port AC Rogue. I was interested in it and waited patiently for the PS4 announcement that seemed like a no brainier for Ubisoft and it never came.

So do you want something new or something fun to play? Because ACII and Brotherhood remakes are close to the exact opposite of something new.

Looks like the same old shit

Maybe for 20 dollars in 6 months, when I'm not thinking clearly

I wouldn't be surprised if its 20-30 dollars before the end of the year when on sale. Not a lot of excitement for this one and impressions have been mediocre. The good AC games drop in price quite fast and the bad ones tank within weeks.

I haven't really played any of the Assassins Creed games, so it's obviously not a game made for me, but I thought that looked really bland.

The artstyle and choice of scenery is of course really good, but the locations shown didn't have any reall identity, it all looked very....samey.

The AI looked at best erratic. It looked like it wasn't very clear for who took interest in you, and if they reacted, how they would react.

I'm assuming that this was only tutorial areas, and that the game opens up more later on, where different areas aren't as locked in and linear as this?
